This is already one of the most intense songs ever, because of its relentless power; listening to this adrenalised version is like being overwhelmed in a violent storm of colour and energy
Wow, this brings back great memories - I was there in Wembley on this night, and remember him loosing track of the words in the 4th verse, wondering if he was going to find them again!!
This song was my number 1 in my Fav Top 5 last Year (2009), Im still listening to this Jewel nowadays, is just Incredible how this song makes me put in the best way, in fact i sing this song while im walking down the street and dont care if the people stares at me, I Love this song as much as you don't have any clue.
This 2010 my no. 1 is A Forest amongst Fight.
I need to find an antidote to Cure my Lone soul and The Cure does That.
porl was ok too. but boring. and he was bored with it. watch all the prayer tour videos. when they are playing disintegration songs he's mostly sitting in a chair waiting for his part.
plus porl is there now and they suck. he plays the keyboard parts on the guitar pretty good. but mostly they don't sound very good.
once boris left they pretty much sucked.
no hard feelings meant to jason.
but,
boris was so good it kinda made them how good they were at that time
i started with DISINTEGRATION album...a was 13y.Then back in 89 they were in LJUBLJANA ...it was un forgetableeeeee.now I LOVE THEM LIKE BACKDAYS.album disintergration...i love slower version ,more gotic, darker more voices&sinergy...love it---------
Wish has "Friday I'm in Love on it" which is a totally piece of trashy flush. They always had awesome guitar work. Disintegration was the last great album and this version is awesome - thanks!
I agree. Everything up to and including Disintegration is excellent. I haven't even listened to the last few albums they have put out, but up through to 1990 the Cure was always good. Have seen them live about 5 times and they always put on a really good show - sounds different every time, but always sounds good.
FYI, there is a very similar live version on the album "Entreat", which was a limited live album from July 1989 containing songs from "Disintegration".
i couldn't agree more. Everything after Wish (and even that is debatable) is second rate. He should have hung it up can come out with that solo instrumental album years ago. Oh well.
And yes, The Cure is almost dead now. Specially because Jason really sucks! he has no creativity and gives NO order to the songs... 4:13 has some interesting songs that would've sound way better with a better drum pattern.
Listen to the Edge of the Deep Green Sea again - Open and Close. They made Wish. But yes nothing could beat Disintegration - 12 to 3 ain't tunes good. Without Disintegation though the Cure would have faded after Pornograpgy. And that would have been a pity
The missing piece has been Boris. From 1984 to 1993 Boris' active style of drumming really made The Cure great. Of course Porl was a more original guitar player than Perry is, but Boris' rhytms really meshed with Simon's perferred style of bass playing and great music was the result.
Simon's bass is loud, and rumbling, and so was Boris' drums. But Jason, you can barely hear his drums. I'm not trying to knock Jason, he's a nice guy, but he just doesn't fit with the Cure.
He just lacks atmosphere. His drumming is so forced sounding. It's the little things, the fine detais. The amount of time it takes him to hold and smash, it's just not thought out as much.
It'x "executed" yes, but it just lacks the depth of boris. Boris just let Smith and Gallup really own so hard, they just didn't really realize it until he was gone.
Yeah, too fast. Makes the keyboard parts seem "toyish". Disintegration should be like sex....long grinding desperate and slow. Jackrabbit sex is no good.
a great song from a great album. i love how wordy it is. the lyrics are so long and so poetic. one of the most influential songs that i've ever listened to.
I miss the drums of williams, they are so fasts, so ritmic, not like that cooper.
but today disintegration, with cooper on drums, sounds so slow, almost boring.
He ruins the songs of the cure, he not stop playing when robert, on pictures of you, said "you are always so lost in the dark", and that makes the song lost his beauty.
although I agree The Cure are fucking shit these days and have been since wish (and all their new fans are fucking cunts) this line-up always played this song too fast. The guitar and keyboard always got lost in the mix live too.
@wasuranum I am sure that Robert Smith would give Cooper very specific instructions on how the drums should be played in his songs.Bands are not robots that reproduce their songs like a perfect facsmilie each time they perform. They recorded this album about 20 years ago so obviously the way they play the songs will change from time to time. But the Cure still do it well. The Rolling Stones songs in concert these days are almost nothing like the original recordings. The Cure still have it.
@kpuc1973 I'm not sure the songs 'have' to played differently live. They just end up sounding abit different cause a live stage environment is much different to a studio environment. Its not really the point of seeing live shows to hear the songs played differently is it?At least not for me.For me I would see live shows for the atmosphere and the big sound. Its like the difference between seeing a film at the cinema or on TV.In the cinema u have the huge screen, big sound and darkened room.
@HeavySabre70 of course you'll never achieve a studio sound in a live show (unless you are miming along to backing tapes.
yes, the live show is meant to be different, varying the arrangements slightly, not re-writing the whole song. Otherwise you'd end up with every show for decades sounding the same and may aswell watch a dvd copy of it in a cinema for (atmosphere)
I like the subtle changes, sure there are some versions I hate, but others great.
@wasuranumBORIS KNEW....BUT I LOVE THEM WITH COOPER TRUPER...ROBERTO IS THE HEART HE MADE THIS CIRCLE.......NO I DIDNT FORGET THE OTHER 2 IMAGINARY BOYS..AS IN THE START.-..
@wasuranum It's not just the drums that ruin the live performances of Disintegration these days. Robert doesn't even seem to remember how to sing it. I don't know what the Hell happened with this song. I've never heard of such a brilliant song being ruined by the same band that created it.
@wasuranum I saw Boris play loads of times between 85 and 92. I always thought that this song was played too fast live. It has definitely improved with later incarnations of the band. That said, the rest of the Prayer Tour was SO much better than the Trilogy performances. Jason is a fine drummer though and suits The Cure perfectly.
Thanks! I've never heard this song from the 91 show. Any video? This is the glorious version they played in 89-90. I love the break part before Robert comes in for the last time. Boris rules!
Does anyone know where the promo picture from this vid is from?? I've looked everywhere. Its really cool.
