  • que te valla bien miss carrusel jeje

  • Superb!

  • @Reddirtgirl55Again i agree this is awesome

  • Yeah. I still love my Bob Dylan and my Leonard Cohen, but....

    and my Joni Mitchell.

  • Yeah. I still love my Bob Dylan and my Leonard Cohen, but....

  • A Genius. Nothing more needs to be said....

  • Townes van Zandt was a poet. Modern music can learn much from the like of TvZ.

  • @Wajionis I think it's about a failed relationship. He thinks she is only staying with him because she needs him. She goes round and round; she won't leave and she won't stay. She is tired of his addictions 'the drunken clown " and "would you say that anyway to judge him". She's erected an emotional wall "the castle wall " and " tears couldn't find your eyes" so he has decided he will leave her "the time has come for leaving." That's my take. Only TVZ knows for certain and he's gone..

  • i only found out about TVZ from the movie country strong. easily the only good thing i got from that movie

  • I know that that's the thing about poetry that anyone has their own interpretation of the text, but would any native speaker be so kind as to enlighten me if I'm interpreting Miss Carousel as the synonym of Death correctly?

  • Townes was wayyyy beyond this shitty world..

  • You don't need to insult one artist to praise another. In fact, this song praises itself with every note. If someone can listen to this song and deny that Townes Van Zandt deserves to be placed alongside the greatest songwriters of all time, a list I would include Bob Dylan on, their opinion clearly isn't very thought out and mostly based on the conventions of others.

  • @JumpinSharks I love Townes Van Zandt! I think he is Great!! i don`t know why more people don`t know about him.

  • @imaStonesGirl1 very true.

  • @elvis316 :) i knew u would like it.

  • Excelso!!

    maravillosa

  • who is the singer?

  • @Readhawk: Townes van Zandt IS the singer...it's not a band, he's one guy.

  • This must go down in music history as a " Classic " for a singer / songwriter who never got his dues as a genius.

  • what a great songwriter!

  • who's Dylan?

  • @xXxaimlessxXx Dylan?... Dylan is GOD

  • @christianrockbass I beg to differ. Bob Dylan is not that great.

  • @ijurcough Dylan was a great lyric writer and was a HUGE influence on the music scene, but Townes Van Zandt... he's on another level. Of course, I'll be honest... I prefer Arthur Lee over both of them (but just a TINY bit).

  • @xXxaimlessxXx Ah, c'mon. I prefer Townes, but Dylan. Guy Clark and Michael Smith are all favorite songwriters of mine.

  • I dont know how to explain it , but this song make me feel like no other song can.

  • it takes true genius to write the mundane and perhaps even more talent to express the small slights into significance. Thank you Mr. Townes I will never forget

  • Absolutely amazing!!!! Awesome!!! Thank you!!!! I'm gonna post a video response. I just posted my cover of "Tecumseh Valley". Thanks again man!!!

  • I'm 56 and this was the 1st Townes song I heard when I was 15. I went out and bought a guitar and learned to play because of this. I still remember every lyric. I saw him once in a small coffee house at college when I was 18 and was mesmerized. And i remember the place I was when I heard he died. Emmy Lou Harris was saying he was the greatest lyricist ever. She was right.

  • @ritabottle

I'm just discovering Townes. Honest to Christ, he's every bit as good as Dylan. What an incredible writer... absolutely mind blowing.

  • @ritabottle that's great, i love this song...i'm just learning to play the guitar--do you know the strumming pattern Townes uses in this song?

  • @clash7samurai you probably learned this already but the strum is on the 'and' as you count 1 'and' 2 'and' 3 'and' 4 'and 1 and.......also sounds like he puts the capo on the 4th fret playing the e in the c position. great song great artist.

  • @ritabottle Steve Earle and Guy Clark think the same thing. Others too, probably.

  • @ritabottle What's your favourite Townes song? What was he like live?

  • @ritabottle I remember where I was, too. I was standing in the living room, and was so stunned, you could have bowled me over with a feather. That only lasted a moment, though - then I burst into tears and ran from the room.

  • @ritabottle Well, she was not alone saying that... More or less every singer-songwriter today have said the same! When Dylan played "To live is to fly" he introduced it with "here is a song by the greatest songwriter that ever lived!".

  • love it

thought i had heard it all

    thanks for letting me hear

townes may not be better than dylan

he'just the best there evere was

  • One of his songs I wish was mine ... actually there's plenty of Townes's songs I wish was mine...

  • spanish version: "que te vaya bien, miss carrusel" nacho vegas.

  • This is one of the greatest songs ever written. The very day I started listening to Townes I knew he was probably the greatest songwriter of all time.

  • Wow, I had actually never heard this song before-thanks for posting!

  • i do love and respect both this incredible artist stop comparing them it's imature...i identify with each of them depending of the mood i'm in....if they admired and influenced each other it can't be that hard for us either to do so

  • Dylan and Townes both respected each other and each others work, and Im sure they influenced each other. I here a lot of dylan influence in this song, but most other townes songs are much different from dylan's style. I personally think townes was a better songwriter because I can relate more to his music, but dylan was also exceptionally talented

  • dylan wishes he could write songs like townes, seriously dylan said so. look it up before people freak out, townes and dylan are like 1 and 1a

  • I guess it's from around 69.

Why do you guys talk about Dylan all the time?

Is it because of the use of acoustic guitars? Or drums? The long verses? Isn't that much like Springsteen?

But wait...the harp! Yeah, that's Dylan! You're right.

  • very dylan-esk...very different from his other songs i will have to look up when he wrote or relased this...

    saludos.

  • i can hear alot of bob dylan in this one

  • Dylan did follow in his footsteps

  • As much as I love Townes Van Zandt I'd say it would be Towne following in Bob's footsteps if at all. Bob recorded his first album in 1962 and Van Zandt didn't start recording until the late '60's. I don't know if Dylan was an influence but I wouldn't be surprised as he influence so many artists of that era and future era.

  • townes loved bob dylan, bob dylan loved townes. look at the book a deeper blue they talk about it some in there. if it has to be one or the other i'd say dylan influenced tvz more than the other way around

  • Such a great, great song that is sadly overlooked.

  • it's a very good picture of townes. thanks for posting.

  • one of the greatest songs ever...

  • Absolutely agree with you. Thanks for the comment.

  • Thanks for sharing. Yet another beautiful Townes song. God bless TVZ.

  • Thank you for the comment.

  • Great song. It's new to me, also.

    Love his music.

    thank you, for the video!

  • Thanks for the comment.

  • thanks for posting, never heard this before

  • Thank you for the comment and Townes for the tune.

  • i thank townes for his tunes and even more. there was something attached to each of his tunes. completely magical.

  • Yeah, it goes beyond words or musica alone. Or even combined.

    Thanks for the comment

  • Thanks for posting- been on a Townes roll- got this faved for a learnin

  • You're more than welcome. It's all Townes fault.

  • he is a true american hero

    saludos

  • This is great! Thanks for posting.

  • Thank you for the kind comment. It actually was kind of criminal not having such a beautiful song on youtube. Had to upload it.

  • You really had to! One of the best songs ever, and yours is the only post of it. Bless you and thx for that!!!! Spread the word, spread the VanZandtgelism! All the best from Luke

  • Such a beautiful song and performer. Thanks for putting this up; I've never heard it before.

  • Thank Townes for making such beautiful music.

And this one fares among his best.

  • Awesome song.

But I really hate this kind of vids, where people just show a couple of slides.

    Well, better than nothing.

    Thanks anyways.

  • Thanks scotos.

I do hate this "fake" videos as well, but I needed the song online and the only way to get it here was like this (a picture and sound).

Well, I guess the fact that we can get to enjoy such an awesome song makes up for any other flaws.

  • I'm glad I found this masterpiece. Thanks for sharing!

  • Thank you for your kind comment, and certainly such a great song by an enormous artist like Townes couldn't be missing here.
