I was 16 Years old and got this operation on it in 2006. I played elite Rep rugby School rugby with this injury for 3 years until I was refered to a specialist. I got the operation through private health in NZ. I was walking the next day in discomfort but I was back to running at full strength 3 months after the operation. My Scars are bigger and i have a slight numing feeling in my right foot but its a small price to pay. I have never experienced pain like compartment syndrome. Best thing Ever
I have the same thing on both legs but my rights leg is worse than the left. I have an appt on the 28 of September to get the pressure tested in my legs
@NckJonasluver i have it in both too but i still need to confirm i have it! the MRI i need to get put alsleep! i have it wore in my right leg!thafter awile my right leg foot get numb i cant fell it at all!
I've got my operation for this on October 7th! Just over a month away! Is there a lot of pain during the recovery process? I'm having two incisions on both legs, one on each side of my shin.
Deep tissue massage can help and could help avoid this but doctors have only one thing they can do to charge you and thats cut you open. Fascial release is whats needed. But hey I'm no Dr. Im a massage therapist and have had shin splints growing up due to soccer. Massage helps so much! Give it a try!
@fabiolacanta Shin splints DO NOT compare to the pain of Compartment Syndrome I can guarentee you that. :) Massage was GREAT for pain relief and also acupunture but those methods are both short term. For a long term fix surgery is the only way
BY THE WAY IF YOU THINK U HAVE THIS TELL YOUR DR TO CALL THE ORTHOPEDICS BECAUSE BOTH MY DOC AND PHYSICAL THERAPISTS TOLD ME I WAS WRONG BUT THEY DIDN'T KNOW
I had the two incision for lateral and anterior compartment surgery in both legs 5 weeks ago and I am already working out again.... before this op my leg pressure was 96 my doctor said that I was his second worse case in his carrer, This surgery is wonderful, after 8 years of a lot of pain I finally can play soccer again without tears after the game!!!! :)
I had this simple operation done on both my lower legs in 2001, my injury came on as i was running hard and Tabbing with heavy weight.
I had no problems for almost 10 years and now im back to square 1. My shins are tight, it hurts when i pull my toes to my knee. I'm unsure if another operation would be worth it again as i was in rehab alon time after the first op.
@rafsnip15 how long was you in rehab for mate? My football club got me into the hospital when my calves got tight training mondy morning, its been getting worse for weeks, and I am so scared I wont be able to play again.
it all depends on the compartments that need surgery, for me it was both my tibialis anterior.
I was out of action for about 2 months with physio. But by 3 months i was full steam and running fatser and harder than be4.
i've just seen my militry physio and the pain which i have now has come on because i've increased my training too much too quick, Ice and streaching should sort me out.
All the best and it hurts like fuck after for 2-3 weeks.
Ya know I'm not really sure. I think everyone's situation and the cause for theirs is a little different. I think biomechanics have a lot more to do with it then advertised. Having them worked out on a regular basis (stripping them by massage) and getting a good biomechanic assessment is certainly a good start. I realize though that it's hit or miss with therapists. Find someone who really knows what it is and has some experience with it.
Having said all that, surgery has worked for some.
I've had compartment releases in both of my lower legs. I can't stress the importance of rehab if you choose to have the surgery. The scar tissue must be broken down by massage or it heals "tighter" than before.
In hindsight I would have dropped my dumb jock mentality and tried non-surgical alternatives before jumping into the surgery. It has, I hesitate to say, created more problems.
I think regardless of the decision made it's important to find people who have experience with it. I've found most doctors and therapists have little knowledge of chronic vs. acute compartment syndrome.
had it back in 04... that was some crazy pain.. i went to the docs at the last second.. they said, 24 more hours they would ahave had to amputate my leg

@surkvey there really aren't any effective non-surgical alternatives, are there?

Where is this guy's mask? Not a sterile procedure. Lucky the patient won't develop an infection secondary to this procedure.
