a)Play an Xbox. Im amazed your into vacuums at your ages.
b)Never. EVER. Allow smoke machine smoke to enter devices with electric motors. The fuel is almost as flamable as petrol, and any residue on the motor will ignite. Night clubs have specail air filters in there air conditioning specificly to remove the smoke before it goes near the motor.
The airflow indicator on your Miele can be easily fixed. You will need a Torx T15 screwdriver to remove the two screws located near the spout on the bottom of the bag door. Once you remove those screws, you can access the indicator from the top of the machine. The indicator is spring loaded, so it likely became stuck when it tumbled down the stairs. It shouldn't need any new parts...

@colinatlantic This was a test to try to see if dust and dirt could easily escape the vacuum while in storage.
