Genuine road top cyclists dont go near the hour record as if they are intelligent they know how hard it is..Obree and Boardman are only cyclists I think were not on drugs in whole of cycling sport .Sad how cycling is nothing but a show now for drugs cheats..And I love racing and watching it. butI dont watch TDF anymore as its a joke sport. Contador was obviously and is on drugs.. so obvious but makes me anoyed when cycling community ignores the signs.
This Hour record ride was awesome, done at sea level, and on a Pursuit bike and wheels we all can buy at the right price. This would have allowed this prestigious contest to live on, and also leave Mr Obree alone. The Obree bike was created more out of poverty than wanting an crazy advantage. Obree was very fast too, and could have moved on if they simply implied a rule forcing a bike like Romingers.
Obree was the best TT man of the last 20 years. Read his book. His two hour records were achieved after less than ideal preperation during the final week. Obree was 100% clean for sure. Absolutely no question about it. I believe he could of got close to 54km with ideal preparation. None of Rominger, Indurain or Armstrong would of beaten Obree at his best with everyone on a level playing field. Just imagine how good Obree would have been if he cheated like these guys????
sheit Lance Armstrong should have done this, and it would have been fair game if your revealin EPO. Lance would have topped this ride on a production Trek Pursuit bike. Ill bet you hed top it,by a few meters!
Hey Vegas Bee Tony Rominger used a 55-14 or maybe a 54-14 for this record, and at sea level, with a no frills steel pursuit bike , and turned over 175mm cranks for his strong TTman legs.Big rings are better for a steady but hard effort, like a Time trial, or hour record
What a beautiful bike. Completely white before it became a fashion! Thin steel tubing, so much more beautiful than these fat carbon aeromachines.

5/11 my birthday. Great!!!!!!! Thank you Tony for these emotions!

Rominger was pumped up to the gills when he did this. It means nothing. Obree's clean efforts were far superior.

Check out the enormous front chainring (60tx13t)! Looks cool as hell, which is why I'm ging with a 58tx19t on my bike (I'm alot weaker)

do you think rominger was doped?
OpticalHaze 4 years ago 2
I do. But then again, I think just about everyone back then doped at one time or another to one degree or another.
Tony was a great cyclist and a great champion, let's not take that away from him because of the era he rode in.

there was no drug scandal around Rominger you twat. Have the decency to learn your facts before you go smearing a good man's name.

Epo could not be detected at that time. And as Michele Ferrari assessed, all what cannot be detected is not doping.
