  • and what is that music program around 2:10

  • what is that screensaver in the beginning. does it come with the 8.04 or do i have to dl it somewhere

  • Helios

  • The fact that you said that Vista>XP and WinME>Ubuntu is enough for me to not take you seriously, and who the hell are you calling a jerk dammit, be glad I can't electronically slap you. Also, maybe it's sad for you to constantly here the truth being reiterated to you over and over and not believe it, that's truly SAD. Matter a fact, how about you tell me this complex psychological true phenomenon you speak of that I won't understand. TRY ME!!!

  • Linux sucks. I prefer VISTA!!! Is way better! Yes, your eyes dont lie. I like Vista, it works fine on my comp so I dont want Linux bastard geeks fucking. Dont make retard comments telling me that I know nothing about comps cus I actually know a lot and just want good reasons to use that shit called Linux. Cus I have also good reasons not to and reasons to remain in VISTA.

  • Those reasons being...?

  • 10 reasons. 1. Has a better appearance 2. I can find drivers for all kinds of hardware 3. They do work 4. Theres a wide range of fully working apps 5. I have more resources for cutomization 6. I can play games 7. Has less bugs 8. All programs work on it 9. System wont break down every time I update it 10. I dont have to use a stupid console whenever I have to download libraries or install something
  • 1. Have you looked at Ubuntu or, are you blind?

    2. You can do the same with Ubuntu

    3. So do Ubuntu's

    4. Ubuntu probably has a wider range but lets say they tie.

    5. Same as #4.

    6. You can play games on Ubuntu too, but I'm pretty sure I know your counter argument of what you really mean.

    7. Yeah right, look me dead in the eye and say that without laughing and maybe I'll believe you.

    8. Same as #7.

    9. Neither will Ubuntu.

    10. That's optional to use the console, you don't have to.

  • 1. I think you actually do not. Its appearance SUCKS man! You need galsses or you just have a sucky taste for aesthetics

    2. Not for all, I had to install an older version of a driver for Debian on Ubuntu

    3. No I dont't think so

    4. Well, maybe Ubuntu has but most of them are not as useful as MS's. And most of that crap you are talking about are for GNOME only.

    5. No I don't think so

    6. Yeah, you know exactly what i'm talking about.

    7. ¬¬ Yeah right... Enjoy your OS with missing packages

  • which you have to download using an MS-DOS-like archaic console, and all shit missing in the kernel that prevents drivers to fully work. I was talking about VISTA on a BRANDNEW COMP! Not about shitty WIN XP. Thats why you geeks hate Win, cus you have had XP and think Vista sucks too. Or 'cus you have Vista on a crusty ass comp and think the bad one is the OS.

    8. Maybe except of old programs or the ones designed for Linux or MAC, besides these no one. Or give me an example yo genius!!!

  • 9. What about Kubuntu? Have you even tried it???

    10. Maybe, thats the only shit online help provides, and provides it with the least organized or even understandable texts, I had to learn geek language to read their help threads.

  • using the console is great practice and its where you would start to become a professional technician or a hacker

vista is an implementation of 25% WIN32 & 75% NT whereas winxp is 50% WIN32 & 50% NT.. ever wonder why some games you play under winxp DONT work under vista? believe me its NOT UAC or DEP preventing it from working its the way vista was developed.

i cant vouch for M$ but i could say that their NTFS filesystem/partition doesnt measure up to factory standards compared to EXT4, etc

  • 1. Actually I do have glasses, maybe it's you who has no taste.

    2. You still found a driver didn't you...;))

    3. Well, that's just you who thinks they don't work.

    4. I'll give you some props, some of the programs aren't useful but you mean to tell me that you actually use all that CRAPWARE on a newly purchased computer, I think not. Also, all of them aren't just GNOME exclusive, have you seen the amount of programs KDE offers?

    5. Have you checked out Ubuntu's customization?

  • You can change the desktop environment, show me where you can do that in Vista?

    6. I know I do.

    7. Vista on a BRAND NEW COMPUTER IS STILL CRAP, unless you a powerful system, and Vista on crusty ass computer won't even happen, it probably won't even let you install it, that's one thing it would have done right. I've had XP and HAVE Vista and guess what XP>Vista, ANY DAY.

    9. Actually I'm running it, and haven't experienced anything of the sort.

    10. Last time I checked MS provides ONLINE HELP

    8.

  • as well. Are they SHIT too...;)? Also, last time I checked a computer illiterate person won't be able to fix a problem on their computer with MS's vague ONLINE HELP, and what do you mean you had to learn geek language to read the help threads, you're a SUPPOSED computer literate person, so it shouldn't have been a problem for you...;))

(skipped 8) 8. You want an example, how about all the software people had from XP that they thought WOULD work, no SHOULD'VE work with Vista from the start but

  • no they had to wait, god knows how long, and probably sill waiting, until drivers were made for them. They shouldn't have had to wait for those drivers, they should've been there when Vista was released.

  • Yes I solved 95% of the problems by myself without asking a simple question. Except once I did it in an extreme case which was the update's breakdown. What I mean with "geek language" is that I noticed Linux geeks couldn't even hilight console entries and organize them by protocol, all I found was text and more plain text about how to fix it by building a kernel. Actually I can find a lot of way better info in any pc forum than any help site for Linux.

  • MAC>Vista>XP>WinME>Ubuntu>Win98

Thats the actual order. What kind of jerk thinks that XP is superior to Vista??? Don't tell me. I have the answer, a sad truth every geek complains about whenever I tell him. I shouldn't even say it. Its complex and you will just get mad at me but its a psychologycal true phenomenon and if you want to believe it or not is not my problem, so do you want to know? Or you could just say "no" if your going to cry like a baby.

  • The REAL order

    Ubuntu>XP>Vista>Mac>Win98>WinME

  • Whoa! Ubuntu suckers are abundant here:

    REAL ORDER:

    MAC>Vista>XP>WinME>Ubuntu>Win98

How con you say Vista is worse than MAC, you really suck. And Vista actually better than its ancestors, INCLUDING XP, I don't care if you cannot afford a non-crusty ass computer to run it properly.

  • im sorry but that leopard release doesnt measure up to factory standards (tested on compaq presario CQ50)

ubuntu 9.04 boots in 7 secs > vista home boots in 12 secs

ubuntu data transfer rate (ext4 on SATA HD) 55mb/sec & 12mb/sec off DVD/RW to HD > vista home data transfer rate (NTFS on SATA HD) 3mb/sec & 800k~1.2mb/sec off DVD/RW to HD

ubuntu compiz or beryl performs very nicely > vista home aero & menu shadows slows the machine down to the point its unusable

commodore new line of PC's > MAC

  • as for compatibility with games.. neither ubuntu or vista are good at that use XP

Win9x/ME were the 1st implementations of the WIN32 architechure and M$ didnt like it so they moved over to NT and made 2000 and NOBODY liked that but they sticked with it

Win9x (being the most compatible) for gaming because most games werent compiled to work under NT framework at all (until around 2003 and afterwards)

WinXP was an implementation of both WIN32 and NT and that became the standard for everything

  • Hi, I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion, like I think Mac is great for it's software but the cost that you have to pay for the hardware and software combined cost to much, Vista is good for gaming, and Linux is pretty good for gaming but not as much as Vista is, and it has good security features, and Linux is more for power users than it is for the casual user. This is my opinion, just like you have yours,

  • and last.. i agree the appearance of vista is better than ubuntu but look at it this way.. in order for vista to look all nice with aero and all that junk its going to use at least quarter or half your RAM and throw the rest into the SWAP file

vista wasnt designed for gaming it was designed to maximize security and networking (this is why DEP and UAC nag the hell out of most the users)

ubuntu has equal security and it doesnt impact on performance compared to vista and NTFS indexing.. lol enjoy

  • Well, I think you're right, but the theme does not occupy half of the RAM memo. But thats very certain, there is no OS that is perfect for gaming.

  • It's a screensaver named Helios, available in Ubuntu, of course.

  • cxhd

  • This 'music' makes me want to kill myself. But not before I kill the people responsible for making the music.

  • this music suck

  • puerto ordaz estadio bolivar venezuela viva linux en todas sus distribuciones

  • These people are making the difference!!! and these applications are becoming less and less ...

  • lol, I pretty damn sure you spent more hours trying to get your windows shitbox working optimally then I have with three Ubuntu installations combined.

  • it supports the most apps?, Do you know how much the software company's and graphics card company's pay microsoft just to keep its shitty garbage software in operation, nvidia and ati and microsoft are the biggest bunch of cunts on the planet.

  • what does LTS stand for

  • long term support

  • i want that screensaver! can i get it for windows?

  • Why don't you install ubuntu instead?

  • I don't think so. It's a screensaver available when you install Ubuntu Hardy.

  • MUito doido e linux fiii

  • I think that this new Ubuntu Hardy Heron is the most wonderful thing I've ever seen... Even though I don't have any video card, all the effects run great.. The only thing I have to say is that Linux rock... Ubuntu Rocks... Hardy Rocks!!!

  • It's a Screen-saver when he locks his screen.

  • love Ubuntu just upgraded to 8.04. Still has some bugs in it but manageable the only thing which really bothers me is driver for nv8500gt 162.XX upgraded with envygt. Videos in a full screen mode give some distortions, very noticeable. Positive: is that they finally fixed Xorg memory leak. So now it runs on about 250 mb max with all eye candy on.

  • Have you gone over to the open-source driver for your card 0o? Try it : O

  • muito loko

  • check the help section in ubuntu for internet help

  • how do u connect to the internet using ubuntu 8.04? do i have to get some other program or something? help me out plz.

  • Fuck me, what a load of hype... it's only a fucking distro, not some mystic entity... hahaha

  • Yeah, you act like a 19 year old alright!

  • I've upgraded to 8.04 and I my advice is that everyone wait a few more months. Stay with 7.10 for now.

  • Why?

  • A variety of bugs need fixing, small bugs that all. My Ethernet lights still don't work right neither by screen brightness controls, and I had to fix my sound driver in terminal. Other then that it works great, does not have the ethernet card crash problem I had with 7.10.

  • We both must have completely different computers, cause my Ubuntu 8.04 works fine. The only thing I had to do was install ndiswrapper to get my wireless to work and that was it. Besides, the ethernet lights don't really matter, as long as the card works, if it doesn't work then you have a problem. Nothing really has bugs if there are solutions to fix them, for example your sound. And the brightness controls are easy to configure, just go to system>>preferences. I'm sure you'll find what you need.

  • I'm using a Dell Inspiron 1420n, but between you and me this was my first dell laptop and likely my last, next time I'll try System 76.

  • Gnome have beautifull themes too, why every Linux distributions and Gnome itself comes always with these ugly and such antiquated sets of icons, colors and windows design? Ubuntu Studio is the only exception I know. PS: OK, the wallpaper is beawtifull but is so "low-tech". This futurist music definitively doesn't combines with the video :-(

PS2: Bad english? Learn you my language ok?

  • 7.10 is more stable then this....8.04 suck......now i have to reformatted my disk...ooo..one more thing..kde 4.0 is full of bug....

  • fuck...me too! i cannot use the selecte keys in my wireless keyboard, audio crashes sometimes, an hard disk cannot be mounted, i tried so many fuckin' times! gutsy is really more stable, damn

  • IF you have missed the fact that Hardy is build-on from the Gutsy Gibbon, then you should look it up ;). Hardy Heron is the stable version (LTS), and developed from Gutsy ^^.

  • yes, unfortunely is LTS! Hardy is based on Gutsy and in theory is the stable version, this is just theory. Anyway keyboard, one hard disk (250gb), sound, and many other things don't work (awn, compiz, firefox, etc).

This is stability! i hadn't any trouble with my hardware untill i installed hardy.

This is the first linux distro i hate.

  • Strange though, Cause I had no problems and I have nearly the same setup :S. I hope that you did not update and did a clean install?

  • i've install many times, first i tried upgrade then clean install. nothing change.

i'v got a ntfs partition with xp for photoshop and there the hardware is perfect.

Forums, newsgroup. . .none can understand why i cannot use my pc as i'd like.

    thanks, anyway

  • No Firefox? Then how the fuck am i typing this?

  • I Love the intro, and I love Ubuntu. I must say as a programmer Ubuntu is the most stable and usable design platform out. And in response to Abercr0mbie4life, Ubuntu 8.04 is a little but of a step back in terms of the installer/live cd. But overall Ubuntu 8.04 Is A Major Step Forward Is The Linux Community.

  • As a developer, I tried Ubuntu sometime when it was in 'version' 4 or 5 - thing is, gcc was broken in a really strange way. It would produce executables, without giving off any error, that started and just hung mid-process without any indication of what went wrong. Compiling the exact same code on a different machine, then copying the executable over worked fine, and copying the ubuntu executable over to another machine still had it failing.

Haven't touched it since, maybe it's time to retry...

  • haha dude what do you expect its been out one fucking day of course its gonna have a lot of flaws!!! you have to wait a few months atleast for it to be more stable etc...

  • Yeah, ubuntu 8.04 was released with few bugs. That's true. I hope they will make a 2nd 8.04 release for linux newbies.

  • its called linux mint

  • Ubuntu is to Linux what the Wii is to gaming.

  • anyone know what song that is?

  • Colours-Dj Mind x

  • What is the name of music (background)?

  • ubuntu ftw

  • I Love Ubuntu... I love its philosophy and all the efforts made by its community. Open Source Software is the future against the M$ monopolistic competition.

  • hey i just downloaded the new ubuntu linux 8.04. i know it works i used the live cd it works i have the 7 version already installed i have vista installed to. i just need to know if it will mess up my vista os if i install along with. iv never had truble with ubuntu and vista dualboot but just asking

  • I've just switched from Arch Linux to Ubuntu Linux 8.04 :P

  • i use ubuntu for years now and i have a fine workflow in it. i guess its a great compromise between stable security and multimedia.

  • thanks for the vid man exc!

  • Hi

    Nice Nice this UBUNTU

    LIVE UBUNTU LINUX

  • You don't need a virtual machine just put the cd and boot it. You can see everything without even installing it. I LOVE UBUNTU!!

  • Is that a binary clock on the left of your bottom panel?

  • looks like the process monitor to me

  • looks like 7.10, what's new in this version???

  • nice vid. what do you use to record the screen?

  • My Ubuntu 7.04 is better Just kidding, Ive turned on my advanced desktop effects settings.

    Check out my video

    "Ubuntu Is Better Than Windows"

  • all it needs is moving wllpapers like dreamscene on vista ultimate

  • you know I was thinking the exact same thing.

  • yeah it just seems like a Ubutnu"ish" thing

  • it looks more leaner than gutsy gibbon.

    Waiting for April.

  • You know, why not download the Alpha (currently aplha 5).

It is funny to use, and it feels good to contribute to the system by reporting bugs and so on.

  • becuase my cds are done and i left just few dvds i don't wanna waste my dvds. Just wait the April :D

  • use dvdrw beta 8.04 download now screw gates

  • Looking forward to it :)

  • Me too!!

  • Very cool stuff, thanks for taking the time to make this video.

  • No,looks the same..I'm downstream from Ubuntu (Klikit Linux),so I'll be waiting a bit for this, which is fine by me.

  • It dosen't look too much different from gutsy.

Only thing that will come is maybe security fixes and even more pre installed stuff.

  • The Visual aspect of Hardy Heron is similar to Gutsy (It's Ubuntu after all) BUT there has been a massive amount of work done on system improvements and features, GVFS, PolicyKit, PulseAudio, Prefetch.

    I can't wait!

  • I think restricted hardware is changed too
