  • You are the best, thank you so much for posting this brilliant movie, you've made my day:)

  • If there's a movie that most defines "lost classic," this is surely it. What a great movie! Worth watching on a big screen or projector.

  • The Poor Soul as only the great Jackie could do it/RIP dear one

  • I mthankyou sincerely for sharing this...I cannot find this gem anywhere. You are a hero of mine!

  • I especially remember the scene where Gigot gets drunk in the bistro and thinks people are being kind. Then he falls and they laugh. The expression on his face is for me--after all these years--unforgettable.

  • I wish to thank you too. I saw Gigot as a young man and thought it brilliant!

  • A masterful performance and an amazing score. Truly a classic. I have the soundtrack on vinyl and it's definitely on heavy rotation. Thank you so much sharing this wonderful example of the work of The Great One!

  • i want to thank you also for uploading this movie, definite classic, you think you can upload the movie the hustler ? stars jackie gleason and paul newman, its a good movie as well

  • @onlywayisup100: Glad you enjoyed this so much! :-) Sorry, I don't have The Hustler. But it's mainstream enough that I'm sure you can find it somewhere.

  • I pray that ye remember me @GigotFan I again thank ye dearly fer this Most fantastic J G film!

  • In the bar scene, before Gigot exits the bar, he turns and walks back to shake hands with his so called hosts and kisses the hand of his dance partner, thus elevating his status to a noble human being without any pettiness, putting all of them in shame without a word.

Gigot a true human being, all heart!!!

The Great Jackie Gleason best performance, a true god above men. This has affected me in a good way all my life, Thank you Jackie!!!! Thank you to the poster of this too!!!

  • This movie is one of the few movies that made me cry. Gleason is a genius! Gleason is a man of many talents. Gleason is wonderful!!

  • Thank you for posting! I didn't think I would ever find this movie! :)

  • Youtube is truly a great creation; I saw this film at a very young age in the 1960s on TV and was profoundly affected by it. I've preferred comedies and avoided tearjearkers ever since. It was such a sad film, and Jackie Gleason's performance was intense, so much that a 3-5 year-old could feel the sadness without him saying a word. The scene where the roof falls in was overwhelming for me. Without a vehicle like youtube, I might never have found this film again. Thanks

  • A truly exceptional performance by Gleason, and Kelly at the helm, a much Maligned

    Classic.

  • Yes, its a wonderful film. But I think Gleason owes a debt of gratitude to Jacques Tati’s “Mon Oncle”

  • @djturbo383 It's: "...My brother and I...saw this back..."

  • @grumpypant Well whatever. We saw the movie. I didn't know my fifth grade teacher was looking over my shoulder while I typed.

  • @grumpypant /Why don't you get a life? Go to the library and open all the books, and check for grammatical errors. That'll give you something to occupy your time.

  • thank you from the bottom of my heart !

the first time i saw this movie i was in an orphanage so it brings back such memories first of the great actor he was and how good it made me feel at the time!

  • Orangey, PATSY Award winner twice, so cute and what an actor, meow

I have loved this movie for as long as I can remember (I'm 46). Jackie Gleason was Wonderful in this. I would love to find a copy on DVD!

  • OMG!!! I saw this movie when I was about 8 years old and I remember being so moved by it, that when I was older I wanted to see it again. I've searched every video store that I've ever walked in to looking for this movie, to no avail. I found it today and I wasn't even looking for it. Oh happy day!

  • What can I say? This film touched me when I was a child. I was the first movie I ever cried in... totally lost it and I was only 5. But more than that it amazed me at that age what an in credible actor Jackie Gleason was. From this film on, he became one of my all time favorite actors and sealing this as one of my all time favorite films. I had a dream about it last night and went searching.

Many thanks to those who posted this. I can't tell you whjat it means to me.

  • I bought this film on Ebay a few years ago on 16mm film. It's truly Jackie's best work and sad that it is so unobtainable. I'm not sure if it has ever been released on DVD.

  • Thank you soooooooooo much! It is impossible to find. The first time I saw it, I just fell in love.

  • Haven't seen this movie since the 60's and looked all over creation... Thank you so much for sharing !!

  • I watched this movie when I was 5 years back in 1969 on Bill Kennedy @the Movies with my mother. When I'm asked what my favorite movie is I tell people its this movie and I get blank stares because its not been in play, so thank-you for putting it on here

  • A masterpiece. Thank you for putting this out for all of us who wish to revisit. It's as poignant as the movie itself to think that this is the one piece of work Mr. Gleason had hoped to be remembered by and it is the most obscure and unobtainable.

  • How sad. I didn't know. I'm even happier now to be able to post it here for all who care. :-(

  • You've really done a great service making this movie available to all. You are a true patron of art and the humanities for doing this as well as helping to fulfill the legacy Mr. Gleason had hoped for.

  • @GigotFan One of my favorites of all time too. Thank you so much for uploading the movie ( not available at Netflix ). Another one of my other favorites from this era is Zorba the Greek. NF has it available thankfully, because the only thing on YouTube is clips.

  • @CarliPar you are right on the mark....great and so underated film...

  • yet a million thanks friend "GIGOTFan" for this Most Lovely masterpiece and wish ye a Lovely New Year!

  • Thank you so much, this film as you know is raely shown on TV and is difficult to find. I am now able to show and share with many who I know will enjoy this under rated work from the Great One himself. Great Thanks To You !

  • Best film Gleason ever did..........

  • This movie made me cry when I first saw it in the early 80's on tv.I was just a kid and it fascinated me. It's one of my favourite movies ever just like "The 7 Faces of Dr. Lao".

  • Love this movie. I too saw this back in the early seventies. Fantastic performance by Jackie Gleason. That guy had depth that many never knew. What a performer.

For those of you whom are having trouble finding this movie on DVD, the last time I checked, it was available in Europe only. Not compatible with U.S. DVD players though. Perhaps you could find a Code-ec program that could solve this problem? Good luck.

  • OMG I have been looking for this movie FOR YEARS!!! I have looked for it on Youtube before, but never found it until now. I AM SO EXCITED I can't wait to watch the whole thing. Thank you Gigotfan for posting this, I remember this movie from my childhood and It will always remain one of my favs. I loved Jackie Gleasons Character as the poor soul. He played it so well it's almost heartbreaking to watch, but at the same time very nurturing to the soul. this is like an early christmas gift. Thank U!

  • One of the very few movies I remember as a child, I was five years old when it came out & I saw it on TV. Why this is is integral to the soul of the movie and the superb performance of Jackie Gleason. Only surprised it hasn't attained prominence! A rare jewel.

  • Saw it for the first time yesturday on PBS. I missed the beginning, but I stil loved it! Unfortunately, it's very hard to find on DVD. Netflix and Amazon don't have it, which is weird cause they carry everything!

  • My first time seeing this video was yesturday on channel 9.1 it was the best

  • Gleason was quite an actor- a 1963 movie with Steve McQueen also shows his dramatic/comedic talents, as well as The Hustler, et. al. He pulled himself up from having nothing as a child to give us a legacy of his wonderful talent as an adult- this movie makes one laugh and cry and feel empathy for the character- that is artistic genius, for sure! Thanks for the memories, Mr. Gleason!

  • Just saw it for the first time and loved it. Turns out Gleason wrote it and scored it, and Gene Kelly directed. Its a masterpiece.

  • watever happen to the little girl. i saw this movie today on PBS, loved it, Jackie Gleason rock in The HOney MOoners and rocks in this. I want to c the "Hustler"

  • Magnificent film. Thank you.

  • I was @ a major chained video store (won't mention any name here) with my nine-year-old niece and was rather disgusted on the crap we saw on the shelves: sex, drugs, gang violences, anti-Catholic...should I go on?

This movie is, oh, so innocent and wholesome; as a lifelong Catholic, I would like to thank you for posting!

  • This movie was on TV today... You can't imagine my joy as I had not thought about this movie since childhood. I suddenly remembered many details... It's indeed the best movie ever. I had watched it a long time ago in Persian (in Iran). Thanks! :o)

  • Beautiful movie! Thank you so much!

  • Oh, my gosh, I echo many comments made here, fantastic movie! I saw this movie when I was 10 and never ever forgot it! I'm so glad to find it here, what a blessing! :)

  • Jackie had the idea to film this story as early as 1956, when he contacted Irving Brecher to write a screenplay for him; Brecher originally produced the first TV version of "THE LIFE OF RILEY" in 1949-'50, which Jackie starred in when William Bendix was unavailable to appear because iof his movie contract. According to Brecher, though, Jackie never got in touch with him again after his initial call. Five years later, Gleason got John Patrick to write the script, which was filmed in Paris.

  • My father took our family to see Gigot when it came out, because he was a Gleason fan. He ended up loving the music and the plot of Gigot so much, that it impressed me to consider it "my Dad's favorite movie", which of course, it wasn't. But it became a sentimental favorite of mine. The music was composed by Gleason, too, I think. Does anyone know? I thought that Gleason wrote, starred, directed, and composed soundtrack for Gigot.

  • Gleason was awesome! A true gift to this world! Gleason could not read or write music, but would "conceptualize" (sing, etc) what he wanted to an arranger, and the arranger/musician would write and perform it.

  • Pow, right to the moon! This, literally, is impossible to find in any other 'medium' (vhs, dvd, etc) and one must wait for the ever-elusive commercial t.v. showing. This plus the fact Gene Kelly disgustedly washed his hands of this gem of a movie. For other genius-showcasing Gleason roles check out his early 60s 'the hustler' (w/newman) & 'requieum for a heavyweight' written by none other than rod serling. Great upload!!

  • I bought the DVD on-line from a place in Canada, I forgot the name of the co., but it is out there.

  • Jackie was pure talent!

  • THE GREAT ONE ! waiting for the dvd ,anyone got a word on it?

  • Thanks very much for posting it , a great classic , that i haven't seen in many many years

  • WHERE CAN I PURCHASE THIS MOVIE?

  • Thanks GigotFan. I haven't watched this for more than 30 years! :-)

  • I am also I Gigot fan I just typed it in, I knew as marvelous a film it is, someone would have it here.

    Thank you

  • GREAT! AND THANKS!

  • Thank you so much. I have watched this film for over 30 years ago and I never forget it.

  • I want to thank you Gigotfan!! I saw this movie when I was eleven. My mom said I cried for three days. It really hit my heart and I never forgot it. But, of course, I did not remember all. You have helped me to see how and why I had gotten so attached at a young age.

    Peace... Maribee1cd

  • I also cried (bawled!) when I saw this movie as a child. But after seeing the entire film in YouTube today, I couldn't figure out why I cried then? It must be something about watching it as a child. I'm glad I watched it again. It was an enjoyable movie. Thank you for allowing me to remember the lovable and unforgetable Gigot all over again.

  • I remember Jackie Gleason telling an interesting story about his being in Paris during the shooting of Gigot (1962)- Ond day during shooting and between scenes, he walked off the set and down the street into a small bakery to get something to eat. The owner threw Jackie out of his place, cursing him out in French and calling Jackie a bum. Evidentally, the owner did not know who he was or that a film was being shot a few blocks away from his store.

  • LOL! Thanks for sharing that! ***HUGS!***

  • Gigot, his appearance in The Hustler, and Smokey and the Bandit I were the three times Jackie was nominated for an Oscar. He never won.

  • A shame, I agree.

  • @rayjr62 Maybe not, but he was known as "The Great One".

  • I love all of Gleason's films, but this one is extra special to me. It's been one of my favorites since I was a child. His performance here was beyond brilliant. Totally unforgettable. Thanks for sharing this rarely seen gem!!! :)

  • You're welcome!!! :-D

  • Hey Gigotfan, I've been waiting to see this movie for years and thanks to you I was able to view it, I've heard about this movie soo much in my life and it was great to finally see it. Out of all the things Gleason has ever done I have to say this is without a doubt the greatest of The Great One! Thanks again this meant a lot.... Cheers!

  • You're very welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed it! (((HUGS!)))

  • Wish I had a little furry alarm clock! :-)

  • LOL! At one time, I had four at once! No, you don't need an alarm when you have cats! :-)

  • Where did you find this treasure?! In widescreen no less and with great resolution! Absolutely wonderful. Thank you for posting my favorite movie of all time!

  • You're welcome! I was lucky to have taped it from AMC about 12 years ago, back when they didn't interrupt their movies with commercials every 10 minutes! :-)
