what!? im going to be going for paramedic school for 2 years the pre fire-science.

Been there done that, until you worked on a busy ass ambulance as a paramedic you will never understand! I worked as a medic in San Diego City when I was 19-23 and got my ass kicked. Then I spent 8 years on Squad and Engine 33 in L.A. County. We ran 20-25 calls a shift all medical aids. Now I am a Engineer / Paramedic on Engine 20 and do not spend much time on a squad anymore. Our Engine runs 4500 calls a year and 90% of them are medical aids. I am happy to not be the " # 1 Medic" on these calls

Being a career Paramedic on a Ambulance for a EMS system is not smart! I have seen guys stroke out, have MIs, and commit suicide being career medics. My advice is this, Spend 2 years on an ambulance to get experience! Then get on the first Fire Department that has medics on their rigs, like L.A. County. It is a great thing when a Department does not have medic units!!! I am very lucky that L.A. County does not have ambulances! L.A. City Fire must suck! Guys spend 3/4 their career on ambulances!!

Critical Care EMT-P/FF-1: Thanks for your support. I'm not that good at the firefighting bit. I'm better at medical/rescue. Firefighting requires a special kind of person. They do something we paramedics couldn't even begin to imagine. I know, because I did it once and almost froze up. EMT, or Emergency Medical Technician teaches you basic life support. Most of the time you need to know CPR first, but some don't matter. EMT teaches you the basic care of Trauma (injury) victims and medical patients. If you seriously are thinking about becoming a firefighter/emt. Go out and buy the EMT book first then you know absolutely what you are getting into, and you get a jumpstart on the rest of the class.
