It's a deflector. It pushes debris out of the way of the ship when she's traveling at warp speed. When you're whipping through space that fast, an atom would pierce the hull.

you twist with your right hand backwards or toward yourself.....I have noticed that a lot of people do it that way...I twist forward or away from myself

Twist which ever way you can go the fastest, (as long as you twist each bubble the same way, [if you switch hands twist the opposite way]).

I would have to say though, that since the engines are facing foreward, it would be one of the later movie ships, I'll call it NCC-1701C

You can join the "uber geeky nerd" club under our special circumstances clause. Since you were not around when Star Trek TOS premiered( I was six) you were about the same age when Star Wars was in the movie theaters.. I like Star Wars as I do all science fiction.
