I like how a lot of people say Metal is not appreciated now a days because of rap. If you go to concerts you'll hear about the entire crowd singing the lyrics back. I'm from the newer generation(age 16), but I grew up on the old true metal and you will be surprised how many young adults my age who actually listen to just metal.
Metal/Rock today isn't any better.. For both genres, you have to look underground to find real music. Sadly, music today is marketing and not actually spreading around talent (Rap is for sure)

It depends on the genre of rap. Hip-Hop or "Alternative Hip-Hop" in particular would rather distance themselves from the useless type of style that is predominantly in the mainstream. It depends on the genre of rap. Hip-Hop or "Alternative Hip-Hop" in particular would rather distance themselves from the useless type of style that is predominantly in the mainstream. Alternative is all about the rhymes they put out and not rapping about cash and glory. Rap is a genre. Hip-Hop is a culture.

okay, just want to knock a couple of these points out.
1) if there is no talent involved, then why cant the average joe make a good beat or sound good rapping. seriously have you ever heard someone who sucks at rapping, rap? sounds terrible.
2) lyrics are just as bad in any other genre of music. not all rap talks about those things, not even all mainstream.
3) many genres are repetitive
4, 5, and 6) replace rap with metal and... yeah.

AND metal talks about drugs too, i mean when it comes to drugs, rap only talks about weed, which is rarely, but your genre talks about tripping out on pills, its all part of the dark theme that metal has. So tell me how rap is making people go crazy again? Oh and hiphop makes you want to dance, but metal does not, that is why they don't play it.
