  • sparky, nice clean looking job,i was just wondering why you dont leave 6 inches of free conductor out side of the device box in a question mark or loop shape ? were taught this is school in canada, so if the drywaller nicks a conductor you can just pull new conductor into the box. thanks for all the great vids

  • Pancake boxes ARE NOT rated for ceiling fans. Plus code violation. Romex going through a block wall w/o protection. Why don't you strip your wires before going into the box?

  • @Megawatts37 Here is a portion of the spec sheet for the boxes I used. They are Crouise-hindes brand--

    "CEILING FAN BOXES AND SUPPORTS–

    CUBIC INCH CAPACITY (SEE BELOW)

    UL LISTED

Weight Limits: TP261 – 35 lbs. max. for fans, 50 lbs. max. for fixture. TP301 – Fan is supported independent of outlet box, mounting screws

go through box and into joist. Box will support fans up to 70 lbs. and fixtures up to 90 lbs. TP275 – 70 lbs, max. for fans, 90 lbs.

    max for fixtures".

  • @Megawatts37 I am not sure as to why on stripping romex first, never taught that from any one. Romex/block I will stuff with insulation and expandable foam.

  • your a true craftsmen

  • @bucker89 Thanks,I appreciate your comment!

  • Nice job, Sparky! Looks like wicked fun for me. I've always wanted to redo an old fixer upper house; especially the wiring. I have learned so many new tricks of the trade from watching you. Keep it up! If only it was legal for a 16 year old to get a license!

  • what is the rating of the load center? 100A? the house looks really tiny!

  • @jjlwis THe house is really small indeed! 2 bd rm 1 bath. The service that is existing has a 200 amp main and 20 spaces. It appears that the conductors feeding from the pole to the home are # 1 alum? Overkill on the 200 amps?Perhaps the owner were planning to expand in the future?

    Sparky

  • @sparkyUonline holy crap... would a #1 be measured in Kcmill's?

  • @jjlwis #1 awg (american wire gage) is smaller than kcmil aka MCM which starts at 250 MCM

  • whats with the pancake boxes man! and ur a bit stingy on the staples

  • @gavinfranssen Yea uh the supply house forgot to bring me more staples but I keep working. Never let a lack of materials keep you from doing any work. Whats wrong with the pancake box.

  • @sparkyUonline not much room for fixture wire and pancake boxes are expensive!! whatever man you o great work and i really enjoy your videos keep up the good work

  • Nice, neat work!

  • @oddballlw Thanks !

  • are metal boxes, with BX not done anymore with home Electrical?

just straight Romex and Plastic boxes for new and remodel construction work?

  • @jjlwis Plastic and romex is the norm and completly legal.Cost savings could be quite a bit depending on the size of the home.

  • Why not move the panel inside?

  • @TheBuffaloChicken A lot of residential homes in the s/w are mounted outside.A common question is why,I don't have an answer for why!

I have asked many people and have never recieved a straight answer.

  • @windoes98se this is a common practice in houses.. Don't see it much in commercial work

  • its hard to tell because im watching in low definition, but it looks like you have the fan/light an outlets in the bed room on the same circuit

  • No PVC chase going through the block outside to the panel?

  • No PVC chase going through the block outside to the panel?

  • Great video! Its very informative to actually watch you do the wiring. I've learned a lot from your videos. Thankyou.

  • Kool thanks for the video!

  • ugh! Please pan the camera slower. I think I got sick! Ha :) Thanks for sharing.

  • @toddrharrison Yeah, gotta work on that!

  • Interesting? Can you please explain what a "home run" is?

  • @Steve55599 Home run is when you hit the ball, ooops wrong meaningLOL. Each branch circuit feeding a room/s and or appliance is fed from the panel to your first box so The wire from the first box to the panel is the home run box.
