And another thing, I just loved how the guy claimed he went through the film with a fine tooth comb, yet somehow missed that Bond and Vesper were on a train and not a plane, and somehow missed that Bond actually developed a relationship with Vesper during their interactions. And one more thing, M didn't say Bond is terrible with women, they never said that. What M said is that Bond doesn't get emotionally involved, and she is later proven wrong about that.
Craig is humorless? Sorry, but bullshit. Watch the scenes with M, watch the scenes with Solange, or the lighter scenes with Vesper, or the scenes where he's taunting Le Chiffre. There's is a lot of humor in Craig's Bond, it's just not the over-the-top, wink at the audience type humor that Brosnan's Bond made us used to. And "Casino Royale" is the best Bond film by far.
marin cambell comes in an make kickass bond film then the brosnan film just get worse and worse and now he made another kickass bond film again and then the crappy quantom of solace comes. I just hope the nexts bond film will be good.
Well done! I agree with you on so many levels! Way to call out Foltz on the Vesper and tell him not to wear daisy dukes and choked out white kicks on film next time! Can't wait to hear your views on Bond 23!
no offense guys but i though the last brosnan film was terrible and the new casino royal bond i found boring but i do respect how they changed the style of the films with casino royal and i did like the world is not enough one of the few times i have to totally disagree with all you guys
the most bizarre moment in all bond history is when Lazenby breaks the 4th wall and talks to the audience before the credit roll. so weird and awesome.
Hey Guys, are you all planning on doing Quantum of Solace? If so, I would love to see it. I felt World is not enough and Die another day had the potentinal to be the darkest bond films in the genre. I liked the brosan films except Die another day. I thought the Woman the main enemy in World is not Enough was done well and I thought it was Brosan's best performence in the films though not his best film.
Best Bond films, FOR YOUR EYES ONLY, SPY WHO LOVED ME, THUNDERBALL, THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS, LICENSE TO KILL, DR. NO, LIVE AND LET DIE, THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN, FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE.
And as for MOONRAKER Shakespeare KING LEAR"I percieve a weak bond."
Isn't it great how they cut off the guy that doesn't like Casino Royale? I think that film has become has become one of those movies that you are not allowed to dislike.
When I was a young boy James Bond movies were an event in my house. The days when Bond movies were only aired every six months. When ever a Bond movie was on TV My dad would drive me to the 7/11 and I would stock up on the candy. I got to stay up late and watch even when they were shown on school nights. So I have fond memories of Bond movies and I have seen them all alot. I am not an expert but I am a fan.
When it comes to who is the best Bond it is a very popular choice to say Sean Connery. You will find that people that have not followed the series or someone who is not a fan of the series will say Sean. I know alot of critics like Sean as well. However, I think Brosnon summed it up best. He said that "it all depends on who you grew up with. That is your guy" It is true I grew up with Roger Moore. So Roger is my personal choice.
I like to point out that Roger is the bond of the cinima. People always talk about who is the closest actor to the Bond of the books. That is open to debate. However there can be no doubt that Moore is the Bond of the cinema. When you talk about Bond movies with movie patrons. They are going to mention Moore characteristics The thing that killed Daltona and the thing that Craig is being ridiculed for after Quantum is the charactor has become too serious. It ruined Dalton and It may end Craig.
They are already talking about making the next Bond a little less serious. When the average person goes to a Bond Movie they want to see a Bond that is a little campy. I am guessing that all of you are Sean Connery fans. I think that in your reviews you were way bias. Connery Bonds to me were boring Dr. No was a B movie that was real corny Iron claw hand. Stupid flam throwing dragon and the radiation suits they wore at the end. It was a real B movie and Connery was just anirexic.
He Looked sick he was so thin. From Russia with Love was a good movie but again Connery was to thin and least they adressed the fact that it was hard to believe a Russian secratary would fall in love with Bond based on his picture. I liked the movie but I did not love it. The book was better. For those who dont know Flemming Killed off James Bond in the book From ''Russia With Love'' I Rober Shaw, great as the villian but at the end it wants to kill bond slowly, why? A ruthless killer just kills
Goldfinger, starts the Bond hype. Connery looks great here. He has started eating and put on a few pounds. The thing that gets Bond mania started is the very thing critics complain about in Moore movies. You have an over the top villian, Goldfinger a man who is obsessed with gold an over the top plot. exploding a nuculer devise in fortknox. Over the top villians Pussy Galor an Odd job, the precurser to Bond villians like Jaws. You can not complain about Moore movies and not Goldfinger.
I loved Goldfinger but it was the Bond of the books that got the hype going. It was the begining of the creation Bond of Cinema. Pinting the woman Gold. The golf match were Bond cheats brilliant and lets not forget the ultimate gadget the Aston Martin DB5. This Bond was over the top with super villians girls and gadgets combined with a ridiculous plot. The Bond of the cinema was born and people loved him
Thunderball was the next movie and it was more of the same but supersized. The begining of the movie you see the jet pack they bring the care back and we are off and running. Thunderball was the first movie to introduce the big battle royal scene. The fight took place underwater and was great. Thunderball is my favorite of all the Connery Bonds. Sean had reached his peak as James Bond. You had the beautiful women even a Pussy Galour look a like who Bond blackmails into having sex.
The B movie was a direct response by Hollywood to the falling cinema audiences of the early Depression years. In an attempt to lure the audiences back the double bill was introduced. Where previously audiences had paid to see a single feature supplemented with shorts and cartoons, they were now treated to two features, one of which was a low-budget supporting film---the B movie. B movies ran approximately 70-minutes, were filmed in black and white and their budgets seldom exceeded $100,000.
Dr. No had a running time of approximately 111-minutes, was filmed in color and had a budget of one million dollars. It was the surprise hit of the 1962-63 season. It was definitely an A picture.
I believe you have confused Dr. No the novel with Dr. No the film. In the novel, Fleming described the hand as a pair of articulated steel pincers at the end of a metal stalk, and as a mechanical hand--steel claw. In the film, Dr. No's hands are powerful, artificial metal hands that can crush objects--not iron claws as you have mentioned. I have to wonder if you have actually seen the film in it's entirety not to realize the difference.
Hi spy guy I appreciate your enthusiasim. I made a flip remark about his hand. However, I was pointing out how cartoonish Dr. No the movie was. I never liked the actor Joeseph Weisman. I have seen the movie Dr. No lots of times. However it is one of my least favorite bond movies.
I would agree that it does depend on who you grew up with as to one's preference as James Bond. I grew up with Sean Connery, so he's my favorite. Roger Moore was starring in the British TV series THE SAINT (aka) Simon Templar during the same years that Connery was playing Bond. I identify with Moore much more closely as Templar than as Agent 007. Speaking for myself, Roger simply can't be Bond and on the other side of the coin...you just can't beat Sean Connery's performances.
Yep this is one of the best Bond films ever. I have to say when I first saw it I was torn on about it. I felt it was a good film, but not a Bond film. After seeing it again I now love it. Great movie, right up there with Gold Finger, OHMSS and TSWLM. Vesper is perhaps the best Bond girl ever too.

Sheryl Crow's theme for "Tomorrow Never Dies" in theory, isn't that bad. The problem is that Crow's vocals are weak and lazy in comparision to k.d. Lang's more brassy version of the the song, that's played at the end credits.
Damn, I'm so sick to hear how 'Tomorrow Never Dies' and 'Die Another Day' are the worse Bond-songs. I so don't agree. The first one has nothing wrong with it and the second was just a very different Bond-song. And by the way, David Arnold thought is was the worse Bond song because he DIDN'T compose it himself!!!
I really do enjoy these guys' shows. I was thinking about something though, who could be a great Bond villan. Roger Allam(probobly best known for V for Vendetta). He borders on over the top at times. But he can deliver mad man speeches like know one else.

Love Devil Rides Out, Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed (VERY dark movie), Captain Kronos, Vampire Circus and one of my favorite thrillers Scream of Fear (Hammer's Psycho/Diabolique variation).
"I would love to see the panel discuss both Kubrick and Woody Allen sometime!"
I enjoy Cinefiles, but they seem to be hardcore film geeks; in other words, they are cult film buffs. They hate Ron Howard so what more can I say? I doubt they would enjoy a film by Woody Allen. That is unless Allen makes a film about killer zombie vampires with machine guns and lazer beams shooting out of their eyes.
If you want to see my opinion on Woody Allen, then watch the Ultimate Film Fanatic show we were on. The links to it are on our youtube page. However, we would love to do a Kubrick show in the future.
I liked Brosnan, but I never thought he made a good Bond film, which I don't consider to be his fault, but the fault of the producers of the series. It seemed liked they wanted to go in the direction of the silly Moore films of the late '70s and early '80s.
I feel if Brosnan was given a film like Casino Royale, he would have been up their with Connery.
Can I join the "I hate Pierce Brosnan and everything his Bond films stood for" club?
Um, on second thought, no.
I disagree with almost everything in this conversation. THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH is the best Bond film since LICENCE TO KILL, GOLDENEYE is a classic Bond film, DIE ANOTHER DAY is not half bad, and TOMORROW NEVER DIES is Brosnan's worst - by far.
CASINO ROYALE is great, but hardly one of the best ever. Highly overrated.
Interesting. Actually none of us HATED Pierce Brosnan (I liked him quite a lot, actually). We just thought that most of his Bond films were kind of unmemorable. And they had no sense of geography. Yeah, one film was set in Russia and another in China but as far as we know everything coulda' been shot in prague or on a sound stage. That sense of exoticism was sacrificed for outrageous action and mtv style film editing.
ALSO, Mike and I agreed that Goldeneye is his best Bond film. And you have to put our "superman" comments in perspective: Bond was alway a "superman" to varying degrees depending on the actor or the tone of the film. The Brosnan films were always schizophrenic in tone (high reaching, almost Moore-like fantastic superhuman silliness mixed with sudden sorrowful loneliness of being a spy, etc).
Thks for finally uploading this. I also thought ROYALE was a bit overrated. Certainly better than the three films that came before it, but very overrated. Can't wait for the (62-77) episodes.
Thanks so much for posting! I really love your show! I would love to see the panel discuss both Kubrick and Woody Allen sometime! As always, look forward to more. Thanks again!

Have to agree with Michael on Casino Royale - I thought Craig was a depthless thug, unremarkable film - just another misfire in my books.

Thanks so much for posting! I really love your show! I would love to see the panel discuss both Kubrick and Woody Allen sometime! As always, look forward to more. Thanks again!
