Please define "over actor"??? Then we'll go from there. In this movie he played a tough role. A drunk. Not easy. Try it sometime. Dudley Moore did it the BEST I've ever seen in ARTHUR. Great movie! Give Rourke some credit...
You have no idea what your talking about! Rourke was great in this movie. You, however, are a bust. Your a true dry fuck! You were born a dry fuck and you will die a dry fuck. I know, the truth hurts.... lol
@luis6079 I didn't say that the scenario was bad. What I disliked about that movie was the way that Mickey Rourke played his role. After reading Bukowski's books I can say that he was very different. Even Buk himself said that.
@PervisJohnson Of the three movie portrayals of Charles Bukowski, I'd rate the best as "Tales of Ordinary Madness" (1981) starring Ben Gazzara, Susan Tyrrell (whom I love) and Ornella Muti. "Factotum" is fine, but "Barfly" is the poorest.
Still, any of the three movies are better than the special-effects crap Hollywood now issues.
I have to respect a man who has PURPOSE! And Hank had it. Yes he was an alcoholic. Yes, he was a womanizer. Yes, he had his self-proclaimed "monkey-face". But he lived his life on HIS terms. We could all learn a lot from him! Bottom line: We're all heading for a long dirt-nap, so I say....Enjoy the ride! Reminds me of my favorite Sinatra quote.... "You die your way, I'll die mine."
Great acting by everyone in this deal........if you ever lived the BAR life you can relate to this ALL like you waz in it......Spot on the whole dam thing.
23.5 years sober myself, 30 months cancer free an ever so handsome at 55 years.

All good things in moderation: movies, booze, fucking, doctors, friends, reading, enemies, writing, shouting, praying. It's all good/bad. It's "all the same".
Rourke is a terrible over actor.

@kaczka90 I agree there. I finally saw Barfly after years of reading Buk and - though it had some good parts - mostly I was "meh".

Movie is OK...But Factotum, also based on Bukowski, is definitely better.
