@betaniaov nope, you won't notice any difference... some new skyscrapers are new since this video. One is 202 meters, the other 300meters (under construction) which you both would see @ 3:56 now
@scarletjamable earthquakes ocurr in Santiago too, but the city and buildings are quite adjusted to that... I visited Santiago last year couple of months after the big 8.8 earthquake... and I even TRIED HARD to find any signs and traces of that earthquake, and only found one: a very old church lost it's top, and there was a provisional thingy on top still. If you wouldn't know about the earthquake via media, you would never think they just have such a recent catastrophe behind them.
what a pretty city. i like it. always wanted to go to s. america. maybe someday i will be able to . chile is definitely top of the list of places i want to visit.
Such a beautiful city!!! I lived at the Carlos Antunez towers, which are the buildings you can see at the right at 1: 29!! Such memories, I am trying to get back there for work, and hope to stay in Santiago for a long time. Such a beautiful country.
@Jaersopo ese es el sector comercial, donde estan las oficinias , mejor dicho donde la gente trabaja, las casas acomodadas estan para el sector de lo barnechea, escribe lo barnechea en google y ve..
@Jaersopo half of the city looks like this you see, mostly central west. To the southwest its shabbier (though no comparison to other cases in latin america) to the west its more... "accomodated" than what you currently see (to use your words).
Do something about the poor homeless dogs, people of Chile! They make your city look heartless which maybe it is. Dogs are our buddies. They need a person to take care of and to take care of them!!!!
o terremoto do chile foi muito mais potente que do haiti, o chile só nao saiu mais lesado que o haiti, por sua excelente infra-estrutura contra terremotos!
its a nice city ut I dont know why is it not even half moderen like any city or a town in USA I mean all the capital cities in the world are shit when compaired with any USA city !!!!!!!
I like this Video along with the song I wish I want to go see these days what it's like.
@solodiego90 yes solodiego... the title is somewhat misleading. "Santiago before the Earthquake" implies, that it looks different now after the earthquake, which is not. Well... almost not, the only exception and where you recognize it's quite an old video is @ 3:56 net the World Trade Center: The "Titanium Tower" (200 meters) and the Costanera Center (currently 150m and final 317m to be reached in 2011) are not visible at all! :P
@PatagonianWarrior I agree with you, the title is wrong, because Santiago looks great before and after the earthquake too.Right now I m drinking a coffe in Vitacura and watching La Parva and Colorado. Bye
Hace exactamente un año que estuve ahi por esta region....gracias a todos los chilenos que conoci espero regresar pronto !!! saludos desde Brasil a uds !!!
@jcnyc6 Why that title ? it sounds like nothing exist anymore after the earthquake. For your information Santiago is the same City as it was before the earthquake. All the buildings are standing still, only few are damage but nothing serius like in Concepcion.
yo amo mucho

because some people asked:
what you currently see in the video is
from "Santiago Centro" to "Providencia"
accomodated boroughs of Santiago are : La Dehesa, Lo Barnachea, Alto Las Condes, Vitacura and parts of La Reina, Providencia, Ñuñoa and Macul.
Places you should rather not go: Cerro Navia and Lo Espejo.

The song is called "Kissing the day" by Transcargo. The name of the song and the band name appears at the beginning of the video at the bottom.
