Loadstar was the primary chassis choice for school buses for international and the newer international are not badged Dura Star Work Star and Pro Star
In 1982, a friend and I bought a 1972 Wayne GMC rear engine 35' school bus off our school district for $289. It was on the GMC RM-7500 chassis with a 401-V6, ran like a top. It was cool... air brakes, door, horn, wipers; more like a city bus. Was a great bus, even took a trip to Myrtle Beach in it. Wish I had some pics!
I'll never forget those old Waynes, especially the Internationals I used to ride on. The most memorable for me was an old 85, the last one I ever rode with the 9.0 DV550 V8 International Diesel. I loved to hear that old engine, used to growl! Then there was an 87 with the 466 but it wasn't a turbo. That was a unique sounding bus.
@mahatma171 They are really awesome though. I loved the Waynes, and they used to be all I ever rode here on Long Island! The engines were nice and I loved the sound I made, but I really liked the interior of the body with full length roof panels and green seats. Now there are only about three Waynes that go to my high school, and I ride a '93 Bluebird GMC.
Man, we had 10 of them Lifestars. Shew they were bouncy back breakers. You bounce so hard in them things, shake your guts out. I don't miss them a bit. However, big Wayne fan here, was very sorry to see them go...
When I was in jr and sr high school, are school has mostly Ward, Wayne, and Carpenter, and Thomas. I liked Ward and Wayne the best. Then in 83 and 84 they started replacing older busses with Blue Bird.
My boyhood church had two 1962 GMC V-6 Waynes (60 passenger), a 1963 International Wayne (66 passenger), a 1964 Chevrolet Wayne (60), and two 1967 International Waynes (both 60). I remember all those buses like I saw them yesterday, even though it's been 30 years. I wish I could find pictures of those style buses again.
Well, there's the International S-1700 and the International S-1800. Those are from the 80s. The International 3800 and 3600s are from the 90s and up. There maybe more but that's all I know.

I've only ridden on one Wayne, and it was so long ago I can't remeber the number. It was a spare that is probably retired by now.:(

Our school in Brookfield, MO used to have Carpenter buses around 1995, then around 1999, we swiched over to Thomas.

Our school bus fleet was all waynes until 1996 when they had to buy a new brand. They have bought Thomas ever since.
