@CeeTeez it's from The Smiths' debut, an alternate version was recorded, I think for the John Peel sessions. That may have been earlier, but it wasn't the official recording.
@Flowerblood . You're perfectly correct. It was originally track 2 on The Smiths by The Smiths. I actually bought it on Hatful of Hollow first and then went back and got the first album.
I remember watching this on a Friday night. Me dad came back from the pub half way through and sat watching it a abit pissed with me till he fell asleep. I'm now tow years younger than me dad was then...where the fuck did all that time go???
i love second 1 : 27 he looks so lovely hahhaha moz i love u even when i am a 20 years old man hahahha i i hadnt even born when you where singing this good omg i hope u can be at the same age on this video and remain like this forever i love u even more than what i love my gf hahahah morri morri morrissey te amo pekeno lokito encantador mi charming man
My Dad attended this gig. He said as it was recorded specifically for the BBC they did not charge for the tickets and fans were able to see the Smiths absolutely free of charge!
@GNeuman Moz incouraged his fans to come up on the stage with him, and has throughout the Smiths days and when he went solo. He loves it, and so do his fans. It was a true part of a Smiths show. One of the best things about watching this preformance is to see the fans get up there with him, He is in no way in any danger. Its a good time and everyone is a part of the fun.
Glad you enjoyed it. I watched that particular performance when first broadcast on " The Old Grey Whistle Test" on BBC2". It was very common at that time for the adoring masses to invade the stage at Smiths gigs although rare that it were captured on film.
2:50 the kid is superb! Sorry to sys but today's kids have a fairly bad taste of music at least in that age.

Stage left, getting out of the way, you can just see him as the crowd start gathering around Moz on the other side

All of the people in this video have since been banned from Morrissey-solo for expressing thought.
