To say that ignores 200 years of American history. This is not South Africa. There is a long tradition (started by the non-colored people) of the one-drop rule. Treating someone black if they had "one drop" of black blood in them. Children of slaves and slave owners were slaves, not something in between. Mixed children in the 60's were called light skinned negros, not mulattos. So we've come to the point where if you a good amount of black in you, you're black. That's American culture.

Here are some Facts:
Puerto Ricans are already citizens of the U.S., and have been since the Jones Act of 1917.
English is a required subject in public schools through high school.
English is the only language of the Federal Court system and all U.S. government agencies in Puerto Rico and is the common language in banking, commerce, real estate and the tourism industry.

Hold on a minute! I am of Irish ancestry but I was born in the USA, doesn't that make me an American? If I'm not mistaken, wasn't Sotomayor born in the USA? How can she say she's a Latina? I thought people from other countries came here to be American! I can understand being proud of your ancestry but you are American first! If America had a dispute with Puerto Rico, whose side would she support? I know who I would support. No hesitation, USA. Why don't we stop all this hyphenated crap!

Because of the history of prejudice and repression against those of non-european ancestry in the US and elsewhere. perhaps you never heard about that?

You are proud to be an american BECAUSE you are white! It doesn't matter to blacks or hispanics that the Irish were treated terribly when they got off the boat and onto the shores of the US all they care about is that they have a different color skin and we whiteys not only hate them but are afraid of their newfound power. Silly this is the very definition of reverse discrimination.

When Michael Dukakis ran for president, I didn't drop to my knees and kiss the ground for this amazing, astonishing event. By the way - he lost, I guess that means the U.S. hate Greek people. Since some Puerto Ricans hate America so much (I guess for freeing them from Spanish imperialism), why don't they finally vote for independence?
I trust that when they sever their ties to America, "their judge" picked only because she's Puerto Rican will have to step down.

Exactly. But note that I said "some Puerto Ricans" and you turned that into "pesky Puerto Ricans." Because in your "antebellum" view, "some members" of an ethnic group are representative of "all members."
Here in my "trailer park" we call that racist. But didn't none of us go to one of those big Ivy league schools so maybe we didn't do our learning too good.

Try reading some Swift sometime. There's no "humor" in the plight of starving children. But cutting satire made a point like no other.

Good Lord, are we going to hear about the 'OPRESSION OF THE PUERTO RICANS NOW.' Let me break it down to it's essence, any place that was a former Spanish colony (inc. PR, Cuba, Mexico & most of South America) are still basket cases to this day. THAT IS THE CORE OF PUERTO RICO'S TROUBLE. The best thing that ever happend to that crummy little place was the USA. Rosie Perez is a goofy looking broad but because she speaks ENGLISH w/ a horrible accent she is a novelty and therefore had/has a career.

She understands the poor, she understands poor America, DOES SHE UNDERSTAND LAW AND THE CONSTITUTION OF THE US? The answer is NO! She has been overturned 70% of the time because she writes the law instead of following it. She has been reprimanded by higher courts for her judgments. She was picked for her race and agenda, which is communism, because Obama is. Only liberals look at race, conservatives look at qualifications.
