  • Pappy Daily and Jack Starnes created Starday Records, according to my old lp's, in 1952. This was at least two years before Elvis and Carl Perkins had hits with this song. Carl was injured in an automobile accident after recording the song, thus it is better known as being an Elvis song. BTW, the other commenters are correct. It is not George Jones singing Blue Suede Shoes; the great Leon Payne is the one doing the vocals on this song.

  • Thanks for posting what you have posted. But, as an earlier commenter has written, this is not George Jones. Although there are two songs on that record credited to "Hank Smith", only ONE of those songs is George Jones (Heartbreak Hotel). Apparently, Tops used the name "Hank Smith" generically for a number of different artists. I enjoy your channel, so don't take this comment as being 'mean'. Take care.

  • @joehepperle Hi Joe, not a problem, this is meant for discussion. I do have a Starday collection on CD that says George did this. If he really did...he's very cocktailed. LOL!!

  • Not George Jones on Blue Suede Shoes. Possibly Leon Payne.

  • lol, you are right, he's no where as excited singing it as Carl Perkins (my fave) I have it on 78 on Sun. It's recorded here somewhere, or Elvis! But it's fun and a cool find, none the less!

  • I believe Pappa Daily made him do Rockabilly trying to get a hit. You can tell he's not real happy singing here. He can't seem to find the excitment of the song.

  • keep up the good work forgot to say that lol

  • hmm he dont have his hight pich voice as he would when he was country
