learn to make a "hooch" from a poncho. Learn to sleep with a poncho liner. You need to carry water, food,...man, there just isn't enough space here to write up a packing list.
i think the best way is to just take a sleeping bag and a bivy. i have one of the military gtx ones. those are kind of heavy but you can get lighter ones. and theres thermarests or standard bedrolls.
Try making a bedroll from a wool blanket, drop cloth,50gal. 3ply trashbag, get yourself a emergancy blanket thats green on one side and has reflective material on the other side they have gromets for attaching cordage to secure to make a small shelter. Those are acorns that are indigenous to your are. They probably get from the mice, groundsquirrel, etc. can make dough from them if ground up into flour. practice with a sling shot, they're good for taking rabbit and squirrl, learn to reclaim H2O.
Save seeds from like when you have Avacados or peaches or Apples & Plant them out there
take walks once in a while & water them, even if just twice a month...
they may grow w/o help, but a Handfull of feryilizer & a lil Hole & a tiny bit of water they wouldnt get naturally works wonders to give em a chance & speed things up
I like to see the scenery of your area. I would like to see a few beach walk and beach panorama videos including the view walking away from the beaches while you are speaking. So the view of the ocean as well as the view towards the land (Buildings homes etc.)
Sure is G it is called the Ray Way of camping he has a website he teaches you ultra light weight camping and best of all he teaches you to build your own equipment he has library books too FREE. You might be able to start a business this way too. That location all you need is a shovel and a tarp dig yourself a level spot then place a tarp that is camo for the area so you can be left alone. That cop is scouting locations to do something illegal great spot to set up a critter cam and bust him.
@george4title You went to the website great Ray way is top notch not about the money for him it is about the adventure. Making your own stuff allows you to personalize your gear in ways a retailers just will not be able to do. You can find an idea incorporate it into your kit and have the best for you. I would look into leveling off a spot on that hillside too one where light would not be seen so you can go out there with a campfire if it is legal. I share websites and people rarely listen.
If the weather is nice just bring a light sleeping bag or blanket and a shovel. Dig a shallow grave, and sleep in it. Call it a fox hole if you want, the point is your be shielded from the wind and totally invisible unless somebody is RIGHT on top of your hiding hole. 2 feet deep should do the trick. slide a long flat rock over half of it and you have an instant cave (of course the downside is you will be "living under a rock" so you will miss out on lot's of current events and news items)
@george4title Check backpackinglight . com for ideas on lightweight backpacking ideas. Have you ever thought of doing a thru-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail, from Mexico to Canada along the west coast mountain ranges?
from nycoyote.org --> Coyotes are omnivorous and will eat vegetables and fruits, and wild berries, and acorns when available. They frequently eat bird seed left on the ground under birdfeeders and make use of trash left exposed. Garbage and birdseed will attract coyotes to your yard. Keep these unintentional food sources out of reach of coyotes if you do not want coyotes in your yard.
George get out in the desert man! I like to go hiking around palm springs all the time. I recommend a 100% wool blanket and a military surplus bivy-bag made of goretex if your going to spend the night. I have more gear than that now but I used that load out back in the day. You should be able to get all that gear at the surplus store for under $100 these days.
A good site George is digi hitch dot com Its a forum for those who hitchhike and live in the road with only what they carry on their backs. Example, instead of a heavy tent just carry a tarp and a piece of twine and make an A structure to sleep under. Check out the site for lots of good minimalist survival information.
This is hilarious. Clearly G 4 T don't know shit about camping out or backpacking. Its called backpacking george. Btw you get used to cold weather after you live there for a while. I have lived in Chicago, Idaho and now Southern California. I am a weather wimp now but I know I could go back to it for survival etc.
Be careful about sleeping in the open at night. Scorpions will be attracted to your body heat, and are really fast .. That little rock outcrop really does look good for a shelter. You may look on Craigslist freestuff and pick up some free palates when they come available. These you can use for half wall structure, and are pretty strong.. Just an idea.
Do ya'll have a lot of scorpions out there? Anyway, there is a good cheap book on Amazon 'The Ultra-Light Backpacker' (?), not to mention many ultra-light backpacking websites. Nice-looking country. I could never leave north carolina, though =/
Hahaha... George. you made me laugh out loud.. I am loveloveLOVIN' your videos lately. You have transcended the temptation to jump for the juicy (hit-gettin') topics to get down and get real.. I, for 1, absolutely love this kinds of clip.
As for going out in the desert, and not wanting to take anything with ya.. well, George, you know what I have to say about that......you can drink your pee, you know. It helps your body regulate to any temperature, and gives you all the nutrients you need..

Keep working your Natural Caveman Skills.
Water, Food, Wool blanket, knife, boots, sunscreen, Garlic or bug repellent, clothes a 22lr rifle if your in a place that you can hunt. Some cookware a leatherman 300 ect

And oh yeah, you can eat him if you need to keep from starving
It gets better. Just give it time. You're no older than I am. I slept in a closet lean to @31 degrees last night. The first year without heat or AC was horror, but adaptation increases over time. Rocks and dirt have thermal mass..so you'll need to keep a yoga or sleeping mat with you, or just a piece of coroplast, cardboard, or anything with air pockets to insulate you from the ground.
I live in Gotham, WI, which is in the middle of nowhere. Except, when the shit hits the fan, I'm right by the Wisconsin river, rich farmland, plenty of food to hunt. Far enough away from any major city that I won't have to worry about angry mobs. Yeah, it's cold, but awd, propane, and LL Bean clothes make it a non event those 5 cold months. Oh, also NO smog at all, clear skies. And for the price of 1 CA house, you can buy 3 out here. Don't miss CA since I left it in 2007.
running to the high desert will get you killed george. how much water can you really lug into them hills for you and your family before you have to go back down? then you have your wife and 5 kids in tow or leave them at the mercy of others who have to ties to you. better to develop that network in your immediate area.
This is getting to nuts. lol. hmmm you live life once, enjoy all the creations what humans made for us to use. Its the best time to live right now, I dont want to be a caveman, thats a horrible life.
