How often do you detangle with a comb? I ask because I do it everytime I wash, so about once a week. My hair is BSL but my future goal is your length and I wonder could I possibly be damaging it, doing it that often.

Why did u ever put a relaxer in ur hair it doesnt look kinky and the curl pattern seems pretty loose. I dont have ur hair texture but it looks wavy and looks like a perm would break ur hair down to fast anyway. It's so pretty and thick , i wish i had thick hair but mine is shoulder length and thin. lucky u

I learned something today. When I leave my TWA loose it shrinks terribly and then I can barely comb it. I had a feeling the loose hair was the problem. I am going to try to keep it in some kind of flat twists or cornrows to keep shrinking and eventual tangles to a minimum.

when you decideto do a wash n go, just make sure that you use water, leave in conditioner and alil oil. It will help keep your hair from knottingt oo much. then, when it's time to stretch your hair or change to a different style, add alil more water and leave in condish to the ends. you'll be surprised how easy it is to smooth you hair out and work out any kinks you may have acquired:)my hair is QUITE coily as well-so i understand!!!!
I looooove it when my hair is huge with conditioner only wash n gos, but like you, my hair will mat like crazy with just conditioner and it gets sooo tangled. When I use gel, it helps my hair clump better and gives hold so it doesn't really tangle that much. I don't really care about definition, but the help with tangles makes me so happy! Hey try silk elements foam wrap lotion on top of your direct leave in, it works so well on natural hair, has lots of natural oils and doesnt get hard. Sally beauty supply $5 very light, defines curls for people who dont even have super curly hair. I will mail a bottle to you if i have too lol, because i think it would work on ur hair so good because its very similar to mine.
Could you do a traditional length check video? Showing where your hair falls in the back and sides when you stretch/pull it? Or just tell me is your hair hip lenght?
Love the big hair on you! I think it is sexy! I cannot wait for my hair to be long and full like that! Of course, my hair is not quite as thick as your hair, but thankfully it is not thin either! I use a natural regular conditioner as my leave-in for wash 'n gos and add some of Aubrey's gel (the ingredients are natural) to keep the frizz away. That is it! I have SM Curl Enhancing Smoothie, but I don't like it very much. My hair is naturally curly, so I don't need help in that dept.
OMG..my hair gets soooooooooooooo tangled..IT gets really curly when wet and makes it even harder for me to detangle and I get so much shrinkage. when I twist my hair people are surprised to see the length because when I wear my afro it doesn't seem like my hair reaches my shoulders..

I get that same thing too, all the time when I wear braid-outs or braid n' twists. People are like, "oh you have the good hair, I can't go natural my hair is too kinky!" BS. And a huge cop-out is what that is.

I love the simplicity of wash & gos (I just spray on some leave-in conditioner...right now it's Jane Carter's); but wearing it past Day 1...the style welcomes tangles:(
I use Aussie Moist Conditioner and Tresemme Luxurious Moisture conditioner for dry or damaged hair. I then seal w/ coconut oil. BTW... I LOVE you hair!!
Cute! I know your opposed to gel, but DIY Flax Seed Gel is great. Mixing it with castor oil before applying can give great control and can help reduce shrinkage which could help prevent knots and matting. It may give you the same type of feel as your Giovanni does as a LI with your twist outs vs a wet type of gel look.
Cute! I saw your gel video, but I can't remember if you were opposed to all gel or synthetic gels or responding to someone's inquiry about gel, but mixing gel (DIY Flax seed Gel is great) with castor oil before applying works well, it may give more control and less shrinkage to help avoid knots.

Also i want to add that u say a wash n go is just that without detangling, well how about u try a wash n go set, which to me is a wash n go that you set with a product and also detangle by sections. Detangle with a wide tooth comb, then my denman brush, then just quickly run my fingers through to separate the clumps, and my hair always come out curly and wavy at the same time. Jus please try that 1 time and post so we can see. I really want u to try the foam wrap, its $5 detangles well.

You so have some curl. You just have to freeze it with gel (Eco Styler Olive Oil Gel). It's not harsh or drying at all. Then seal it with raw Shea Butter.
Have you tried curl jonkie curls in a bottle it's supposed to enhance your curl patttern

Wash N Go:
I co wash with Organix conditioner
Lightly t-shirt dry hair so that it is not dripping wet
but still significantly wet
Use shea moisture deep treatment masque then curl enhancing smoothie
all over the head (i do not shingle do not comb through, just apply dirrectly to hair)
I then use a lil bit of kinky curly knot today
and MIGHT use a lil kinky curly curling custard
eco styler olive oil to style the front, done
I have neck length hair, dont do this method on long hair..

@LovelyAmarie10 BC'ing is so that you don't have relaxed ends after transitioning.
Usually people BC when they have enough new growth that they are comfortable to wear out.

I think shrinkage depends on the ph of your products too, something closer to a 7 will stretch your hair when it comes to wash n go's.

I get that same thing too, all the time when I wear braid-outs or braid n' twists. People are like, "oh you have the good hair, I can't go natural my hair is too kinky!" BS. And a huge cop-out is what that is.

I use Aussie Moist Conditioner and Tresemme Luxurious Moisture conditioner for dry or damaged hair. I then seal w/ coconut oil. BTW... I LOVE you hair!!

Cute! I know your opposed to gel, but DIY Flax Seed Gel is great. Mixing it with castor oil before applying can give great control and can help reduce shrinkage which could help prevent knots and matting. It may give you the same type of feel as your Giovanni does as a LI with your twist outs vs a wet type of gel look.

Cute! I saw your gel video, but I can't remember if you were opposed to all gel or synthetic gels or responding to someone's inquiry about gel, but mixing gel (DIY Flax seed Gel is great) with castor oil before applying works well, it may give more control and less shrinkage to help avoid knots.

Also i want to add that u say a wash n go is just that without detangling, well how about u try a wash n go set, which to me is a wash n go that you set with a product and also detangle by sections. Detangle with a wide tooth comb, then my denman brush, then just quickly run my fingers through to separate the clumps, and my hair always come out curly and wavy at the same time. Jus please try that 1 time and post so we can see. I really want u to try the foam wrap, its $5 detangles well.

how long did it take you to grow your hair that long? As your hair has grown how have you changed you detangling methods, or have they stayed the same? My hair is getting longer and I am struggling to keep detangled, it has been causeing increased shedding and some breakage. Any thoughts?

my WAG routine is kind of the opposite of yours, I use GEL...alot of it! your hair is so gorgeous and I completly understand why you do it the way you do without the gel and not very often. You so have some curl. You just have to freeze it with gel (Eco Styler Olive Oil Gel). It's not harsh or drying at all. Then seal it with raw Shea Butter.
