  • 40 pound backpacks for a 6 mile walk? Don't want to be insulting, but was this more a camping trip than hiking, cause that seems like a lot of gear for a 6 mile walk. Especailly with shelter provided for you. I only ask because I am looking for some places to hike/camp around Westchester.

  • @johnmonk66 - it was overkill totally. Based on the prevailing info I geared up with a heavy pack. I have since done a lot of research and got my pack weight down to 23lbs with food and water for a 5 day trek in the summer and probably 26lbs for spring/fall. Check out my newer videos.

  • @RaulPerez1 Thanks for the reply, will check out more of your videos. Are the trails open all year? I have a weeks vacation in 2 weeks, and if it isn't below freezing I just might give the trail a look. Not set up yet for an overnight, but would like to take a look. Can you recommend a parking area not too far from a shelter? Maybe somewhere along the 84?

  • @johnmonk66 - I'm sending you a private message on youtube now

  • @johnmonk66 That is a lot. I did 1/2 of the trail last year and I the heaviest my pack got was 35

  • @guitarguy5 This video is quite old. My pack weight for 3 season for 3 days doesn't exceed 25lbs. Summer I can get 6 days with a total pack weight of about 25lbs.

  • Ya great stuff and like always the weather improves when your heading home thanks for sharing

  • Awesome man!!

  • what a shame the view from the top of Bear Mountain is stunning

  • On day 2 we made our way back and the view cleared up.

  • Nice man! Hate to tell you this but the climb up Bear Mtn is a pretty easy one compared to hundreds of other summits on the AT.

  • I had a feeling that would be the case. First time on the AT will be doing more hikes on the trail in the next 3-4 weeks. Have to do a gear check and see where I can lighten my load.

  • Nice man, send me a message if u need helped, i've hiked all 2175 miles of it

  • Good stuff..

  • "You can't smell what I smell" LOL! Good stuff man! Thanks for sharing the AT :o) 5/5
