@tsuihark Of course, it is. For real machine, Spectrum128 - mister_beep. republika. pl / citadel.mp3 (REMOVE SPACES). That's a shapshot from disk-version. But if You have a Spectrum with BetaDisk then simply go to Virtual TR-DOS portal. Sometimes one has to search first.
@metabog Actually this was probably released after ID's hovertank 3d, catacomb 3d or wolf 3d, though that certainly doesn't take away from how impressive it is.
Ruscy robią port polskiej gry na angielski komputer. Globalizacja pełną gębą :] A demko jakoś tak mało przypomina naszą poczciwą Cytadelkę, to raczej Doom. Who cares :] świetne animowane niebo.
This Polish game was first released on the AMIGA. I don't like it very much as its too tempermentative and before I can find how to put my weapons in my hands I'm shot dead as I don't know what Polish for weapon is so I can't set my controls and have to use the defaults.
I would love to see Doom converted to the spectrum, but replicated purely with monochrome vector graphics. Could the old speccy do it.....I reckon it could
@averagegilo Monochrome and vectors-only would be highly easy for Spectrum (actually for any 8bit computer, I presume). But I think less and less people code for Spectrum anyway. :-\
Well, I agree that all 'dedicated chips' are overrated because CPU's power is the most important in the end, everytime, however I am sure that C64 can do such things too but sadly it has not enough of good programmists who like making games. So - C64 can, but we just had luck for good game-makers. ;)
@yerzmyey I don't said that dedicated chips are overrated, i just said that even with the VIC-II, a pseudo-3D game like this is way better than its counterparts on the C=64. Also, i don't think that the 6510, even programmed at best, could afford such level of ray casting/tracing. In this case the power of the processor counts, but a dedicated ray tracing chip should have done this work better (the only problem is that there wasn't any reason to put such type of hardware on the Commodore 64).
Its really funny, that people, in these 3D times, are still impressed by these graphics. But, HEY, i understand u people, cos i also owned a spectrum myself, and thats why i know, this is impressive.
Muza całkiem niezła do takiej gry (podoba mi się bass), ale wkurzają mnie postacie, mogłyby być obrysowane grubo na czarno, tak jak Ty robisz screeny, wtedy by się kolory nie mieszały.
amigaknight: well, what can I say. ;) Maybe it would be enough if I say that they don't like normal music. They must have some experiments or "total-hardcore-madafaka-techno-stuff" but older people understand that such stuff doesn't go along with AY. Well, not everybody understand it. :)
It would and it does: some people have faster CPU (twice or more), so they can use them if they want. As for me, this state is totally enough to play.
After all, apart from demos, it's the fastes engine among 8-bitters.
This was even more impressive than the spectrum doom. Is it just me or is the enemies and the first weapon aswell as the barrels tracedfrom doom graphics?
Wow! It's 3D!

Looks ugly as hell, but still, it's a fantastic achievement, considering the hardware it runs on.

Is there a Z80 file of this? are there any 48k clone that I might be able to get running on the Atari ST Spectrum emulator?
AGWhiteman 8 months ago
@AGWhiteman TRD file surely is on WOS portal. Check there out. It wouldn't work on emulator of ST 'though.

Something tells me this was based on Doom Pre-Release engine XD
Mainly the fist textures, the way it renders, not to say about the menu options... Well, it's still worth playing.

@tsuihark Naturally, you should look for it on World of Spectrum in that case.

Russians had ray casting perfected before id Software, on a very primitive machine. Very impressive. :D

It's incredible that ZX Spectrum with all its limitation can do this level of pseudo-3D graphic and the Commodore 64 with its powerful VIC-II cannot.

Hey do you like C64 music?I love it along with ZX Chiptunes. The demos on the C64 are fantastic.
xxxogchris 2 years ago
That's true, Russian were able to make the best games for ZX Spectrum. It's sad last times they stopped.
As for the C64 music, I like these chiptunes (the newer ones - 90s/2000s) but only from real machine.
yerzmyey 2 years ago
True there.Emulated C64 music sucks.I even made a video about it.

kojiki1976 2 years ago
Hello. It is totally standard ZX Spectrum, also CPU works in regular speed: 3,5Mhz, nothing more.
yerzmyey 2 years ago
Although from the looks of it, acceleration would certainly help.
