THIS WAS REISSUED BY UNITED ARTIST IN 1960 RECORD #209 LOVEY WAS THE FLIP SIDE NOT SURE IF IT WAS RERECORDED OR JUST A REISSUE OD THE ATLANTIC VERSION.
all chords...rock...this is my favorite...imagine...they were so ahead of themselves they actually KNOCKED a broad up because of a drink one mint julip was the cause of it all.......
@BabyHowdy - Yes he was in a great place and time. He recognized that because you could see his eyes twinkle everytime he told the stories. He was a legend himself. Check out Begging Begging, by James Brown, another Dixson and Toombs collaboration. Thanks man.
It's very hard for me to choose which version of this song I like better--the Clovers' or Ray Charles'.But I'm not ashamed to say that I love them both!
@PhilCLG4 Actually, this is the ORIGINAL version of "One Mint Julep," recorded by The Clovers in 1951. But it didn't become a smash hit until the Ray Charles Orchestra covered it a decade later and every subsequent remake since then has been based on the Ray Charles version.
This is one of the coolest CDs ever issued! It's a double CD set titled 'Don't It Sound Good: The Great Atlantic Vocal Groups'. There is a companion volume titled 'All Night Boogie: The Great Atlantic Vocal Groups Volume 2'. Although both are out of print, they still can be obtained from Amazon Marketplace sellers for a decent price. These are crown jewels in my music collection!
Great Song! This was written by one of my father's song writing partners - Rudy Toombs, who sadly got killed in 1963 by drug addicts. Julius Dixson, Jr.
DID MORE RESEARCH THE 1960 ONE WAS A REISSUE ON THE U.A. SPOTLIGHT SERIES.

Can never decide which Clovers tune I like better. Oh well, guess I just have to listen to all of them over and over again. Poor me.

During Christmas we always decorated the house listening to this type music. Great memories singing (loudly) the lyrics.
Thanks for posting!
