  • Dunkels have a distinctive malty flavour that comes from a special brewing technique called decoction mashing. Most commonly, dunkel beers are dark lagers, but the term is also used to refer to dark wheat beers such as Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse Dunkel. Dunkel weizen is another term used to refer to dark wheat beers, which are fruity and sweet with more dark, roasted malts than their lighter counterpart, the hefeweizen.GOD YOU BURP TWO TIMES.

  • Americans...your beer tastes like a glas of old pee. We got the best beer in the world! Thats why we vote for Kanzler Merkel. She looks so sexy when i have drunk 29 bottles of franziskaner ;)

  • if i could make myself laugh that much i'd be a way happier person

  • hey man next time try ichnusa :D

  • AVENTINUS GLASS! HAVE YOU DONE AN AVENTINUS REVIEW? AWESOME AWESOME BEER!

  • I really like this beer and i drink it often.(with the yeast ofcourse)

  • The Hefe-Weisse is a great great beer, absolutely love it, but the Franziskaner Kristalklar just lacks in character. Give it a go, see what you think!

  • my fav beer (;

  • try köstritzer schwarzbier man! best stout ever!

  • @Xam271 Kostritzer is a schwarzbier or a black beer mate sorry to be rude just wanting to keep you up on beer knowledge =]

  • HAHA, so funny :) Make me smile. Well nice review. I just had one Franziskaner, 0.5 lt or 16.9 U.S. fl oz from a can. We have the same as yours here in Denmark, but I just buyd one in a can. It really is something special. I do like it very much. No doubt. Thank you and God bless you.

  • Franziskaner is the best beer in the world. I've tried all the contenders and all the best hefeweizens and best belgian trappist beers but none compare to Franziskaner.

  • You are AWESOME !

    Greetings from Germany!

  • please try "Berliner Kindl Jubiläumspilsner" its the best german beer!!!

  • @McBonzi the best german beer is "augustiner" from munich.... ;)

  • that was my 'after work' beer everyday .. you can get it simple everywhere here in germany , not so special like weihenstephan

  • Had this beer the other day and I got to say it's really good! Really enjoyed the flavor to it!

  • Love hefe's and Franzy is one of my all time favorites. Others that are similar in quality are Sierra Nevada's Kellerweiss, Mothership Wit, and the Summertime Wheat from Rahr and Sons (of Fort Worth Texas). Awesome glassware too!

  • Your review's are done well. But have you ever tried a cheaper beer that dont taste to bad like LionsHead Beer. Try it you mite like it.

  • I actually really enjoy German wheat beers especially that Erdinger Pikantus

  • smoke means nothing dude, its really funny how excided you get about it

  • yo! joooooe deeeee! man i just had this beer and i knew you had a review on it! anyway, we need you to get some new reviews up when you get a chance!

  • love this beer..great stuff..great reviews like always bro!!!

  • "ah oohhohahah some sick smoke coming out of these bro" - subscribed!!!

  • funny review ;) btw ,great beer

  • Hey Joe D., check your local liquor/beer stores and look for a box set from Weihenstephan that will have 5 bottles of their various beers plus a Weinhenstephan glass. I picked up a box set for less than $20.00. It came with a bottle of Original, Korbinian Doppelbock, Krystal Weiss, Hefe Weiss, and Dunkel Hefe Weiss and the big glass. Prost my friend.

  • The best beer in the world! I drink nothing else!

  • This dude cracks me up. I don't always agree with him but he reviews with a good spirit and true love of brew. For me, Franziskaner is an B+ to an A- depending on mood and the weather. Very good beer. Trader Joe's has it at a good price.

  • I bet he says "axe" instead is ASK as well.... lame.

  • There is the Dunkel and the Hell of this beer. I favor the Dunkel version of this beer. In my opinion, it is much better than this one (hell).

  • by the way. there is no need to doubt that this beer (and all other german beers aswell) are brewed according to the german purity law (Reinheitsgebot) of 1516. any german beer must meet the standard. u can look it up anywhere.

  • It's a damn good beer bro. Loved it the first time I tried it great review!

  • @Eastern13 Thank you for the suggestion.

  • very nice i highly recomend the weistephan hefeweisen also the hacker weiss beer are amzing more sweeter and more pronounce bannana character

  • @dubd303 Thanks for watching.

  • Very nice beer the answer is to just slug it and don't baby the bottle when you drink it .. hit it like your thirsty that mixes it all up .. I really liked this beer and give it an A - as well .. good stuff .

  • @zwreckless1 Thanks for watching.

  • Drinking my first one as we a speak! The first taste of it is really strong, Different I must say! But the flavor grows after the first sip. Overall not a bad beer!!!!

  • @SintaxOne I am glad you liked it. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on it.

  • great review man. you should do some more german beer reviews like becks or diebels. thanks for the reviews!

  • @rokinbosox21 Thanks for watching.

  • drinking one right now

    its really good

although i had a few better hefeweizens in germany

everyone try it you wont be disappointed

  • @tealeafk I am sure there are better, but like you said this is pretty good.

  • this review was great.

  • @traviswhite88 Thanks for watching.

  • Very well done Review greetings from germany, I'm more firm with the darker german beers like Diebels Alt(not the coke flavoured Dimix), and other kinds of german blackbeer but Franziskaner has ever been my favourite Weißbier/Wheatbear.

  • @oberheino1 Thank you for watching.

  • This beer is awesome! No charge! LOL!

  • @MrGordonSean Thanks for watching.

  • you come from Germany?

  • @666confederate No. but Ilived there for just over a year and had a great time!! Thanks for watching.

  • Thank´s Man. I´m from Munich and I love Franziskaner Weissbier. But you definetily have to get a Weissbier glass

  • @butch405 Hopefully I will get my hands on one. Thanks for watching!!

  • favorite beer !!!

  • Thanks for watching and tell a friend

  • will do !

  • I got a lot of good spice flavor out of that beer I really liked it. good review five stars.

  • Thank you my friend

  • bet it tastes like st. paule girl.

  • Wow I haven't had that in a long time.

  • well, mabey it's over due for a review, lol.

  • Hey,

btw. that glass is DEFINITELY a Weizen glass, it's even printed on it!

That 'Aventinus' glass is designed for a 'Weizenbock' but also good for a regular german Hefe Weizen!

    just for the record..

You also had a proper Weizen glass on the 'Pinkus Munster Alt'

and the 'Samuel Adams Chocolate Bock' Vid..

late 80's to mid 90's i toured with Rock Bands as a Merchandiser and had some good times too, but the memories will be kept secret.. ;-)

    Joe from Germany

  • Thanks for letting me know about my glasses. But I have my original glasses from 20 years ago somewhere that I would loved to shown everyone but couldn't find them.

  • holy crap i remember pace! great review

  • Good to hear from someone that remembers Pace. I used to love that job.

  • This is one of my all time fav Hefe's... and I think it was the first review I did as well!

  • Oh wow I will have to checkout that review.

  • The Germans are the Kaisers of the beer world. :-)

  • Thanks for watching.

  • Hey, Ok, damn, you got me... ;-) POPULAR GERMAN BEER MIX DRINKS: Cola Weizen aka dirty Weizen: pour half of the Hefe Weizen into a Weizen glass and fill it up with Coke (or Pepsi..) tastes better than it sounds! Banana Weizen: pour half of the Hefe Weizen into a Weizen glass and fill it up with 'Banana Juice' (from bottle) I never tasted that one and probably never will.. younger people like these kind of drinks, esp. the 'Cola Weizen' you can order them in almost every pub here in Bavaria
  • Ha-ha, I thought I remembered something like that. Either way I don't fruit the beer or "coke" the beer!! ha-ha.

  • Hey,

the green bottles seem to be a special overseas thing, not available here in Germany.

Don't put any lemon wedges or so in a Hefe Weiss. Some put a slice of lemon in a 'kristall Weizen'

Wich is a Wheatbeer without the sediment (yeast) a sign not to go there anymore...

Meanwhile i like the Franziskaner very much. Here in Bavaria we drink it with any meal, except desert

or just while watching youtube vids ;-)

I know you're not the biggest Wheatbeer fan, glad you liked it.

    Joe from Germany

  • Do I remember things correctly. When I was over there I thought they mixed wheat beers with soda (coke, sprite,etc.). Am I nuts or does that really happen?

And yes this was another great beer!!

  • Another great review... Ive been meaning to ask... Do you cellar any beers? Thanks for all the work you put into honest reviews

  • No I don't since I don't have a basement, but after watching someone else keeping their "cellared beers" in a dark closet. That gave me a few ideas.

  • This is probably one of my top 5 beers! The "Old Chicago" has it on tap on a regular basis, and it's AMAZING! Thanks for reviewing "FRANZ-is-Conner." :)

  • Oh wow I bet it is really good on tap! Sounds good to me.

  • I have had this one and liked it. It is available here on the East Coast. I don't know if it differs much from the original German beer like you sampled.

  • I am sure it was the same. I think if you were to have it in the green bottle it might be a little different.

  • Lucky you, I can't find that beer anywhere and I am dying to try it! :-)

  • That's how I feel about beers that I can't get in my area as well.

  • you're so funny, like your reviews!

  • Thank you

  • Franziskaner is a quite good german Hefeweizen , i prefer the Dunkel version though, but look forward to the Schneider Weisse Original, that is AWSOME!! Its been called, the champaign of Hefeweizen's here in Europe, but great review as always!! Cheers!

  • Thank you so much and I am glad you continue to watch.

  • I tried this beer last fall, never had it since, but i really remember the taste, and what first came to mind when i tasted it. My buddy didnt get the taste, so im glad im not the only one that says this tasted banana! Overall a great beer 5 star review

  • Thank you for letting me know what your thoughts were one this beer.

  • Another good review, love the humor you add it! Keep it up! :-)

  • Thank you very much

  • the "deutsch" version :D

    great review, as always. (:

  • Thank you

  • when are you going to upgrade to widescreen 16x9?

  • Not for a while. My camera is built in my iMac so once I upgrade to a newer one then they have widescreen. Then I feel sorry for all of you that will have to see a even bigger picture of my ugly mug. Ha-ha.

  • this one is a damn good one :)

    one of my favorite hefe's

  • Thanks for watching.

  • That was a monster burp bro!!!!!!

  • Thanks I did my best. Haha

  • I've noticed alot of german beers abide by that purity law, like the beer i tried today for instance: Holsten festbock, it was pretty decent. I'm not a big fan of wheat beers but great review anyway as always.

  • Thank you so much for watching.

  • Some sick smoke!

    Great review as ever.

  • Thanks I love some great smoke.

  • 1st off because of you ,now I'm doing the smoke thing. 2nd love the glass. On the Reinheitsgebot purity law, the only ingredients that could be used in the production of beer were water, barley, and hops. The Reinheitsgebot is no longer part of German law. Some German brewery's still abide by it. And another thing I need to turn my speakers down that last No Charge BURB, was 2 thumbs up loud. PROST!

  • That was some great info brother. Very interesting. I am trying to keep the volume down but I am

kind of a loud person so that Can be hard.

  • I love Franziskaner. It's good in a bottle, but I think it's ridiculously better from a tap. Probably for the same reason it tasted better once you mixed it. Definite two thumbs up.

  • Thank you for watching.

  • Haha Awesome!

I have been waiting for you to review this one.

It is by far my favorite beer I have had to date. I have to agree the unfiltered wheat gives it an amazing taste!

  • It was really really good with the sediment in there. Everything was just enhanced quite a bit. Thanks for watching.

  • You're lucky you got a brown bottle from Germany. The green bottles suck because they let in too much light and skunk up the beer. When I drank this it was skunky and most of the yeast stuck to the bottom of the bottle.

Fruit should never be put into beer. It just masks the bad flavor (i.e. Corona, Blue Moon). A good beer doesn't need it.

  • I completly agree with you on don't fruit the beer. But it is so popular to do that. Thank you for tuning in bro.

  • you know your getting popular on youtube when people start commenting on the first to view your video.

good job joe keep up the reviews forever. i mean it. dont stop making them.

  • Thank you so much you are being too kind.

  • I do that too. taste with and without sediment. most do taste better with sediment. One of my favorites is and American wheat beer. Blue Star. But I forget the brewer.they also have a good stout.

  • Thank you so much my friend.

  • My wife wants to know why you're an authority on beer? I told her to get lost.

  • BECAUSE THE MAN HAS GOOD TASTE.

  • Thank you!!

  • Haha well tell your wife thanks for saying that. I just concider myself a regular guy that loves beer. I post my opinions on here for viewers to watch. And I am so thankful that people tune in an watch.

  • I don't think I've ever been a first viewer before, lol. Excellent review! I always look forward to your beer reviews!

  • Well congrats on getting the first viewer. A lot of people try to do that. Haha. Thanks for watching.
