The levels of wild Pokemon grow as we progress, so it's never THAT bad. Double Team and Minimize are hardly available on the really useful Pokemon from what I've already seen. I haven't even had the urge to use any X items in battle (which can be seen as game-breaking by some, due to having nothing to do with the actual movesets of the Pokemon used).
I wouldn't even dream of doing something like this. MoogleBoss, you're probably my favorite YT member for this reason. You're also extremely in-depth with your commentary. Keep up the good work, and good luck with the rest of the challenge.
Those things are too useful at this point. Too bad the no levelling restriction makes Onix very weak later on in the challenge, though he's still often the better Screecher, compared to, say, Voltorb.
i was actually going to name my rival in FireRed "Moogle" today. i should've... oh well.
i'm usually not very familiar with most of the games you play for your challenge vids but in this case i can safely say you're doing a helluva lot better then i could ever do. i remember this battle gave me a hell of a time even when i had leveled up pokemon (though likely a flawed strategy since i cleared the floor with him in SoulSilver, years later)
Just checked, and it doesn't have Tackle apparently. Just Razor Leaf/Poisonpowder/Growl/Reflect. So Zubat is fairly safe with 4x grass weakness. Try confusing it and then screeching it with Onixes or putting to sleep.
where do you get so many berrys

Go, Onix Rangers!

So how would you go about the harder opponents, e.g. Claire's Kingdra? Minimize and Double Team, I presume?

How are you catching Pokemon during this challenge?
And I love how RIVAL MOOGLE complains about weak Pokemon even though his are double the level of your Pokemon. at this point.

@dragoxlaw
The usual way - reducing health, putting to sleep, then tossing balls.

I started doing this challenge yesterday after seeing your video, I just reached Vermillion City after beating Lance.

What was his Bayleef's moveset again? Zubats would probably do well against it though.
Anyway, gonna start this during the weekend.

Why does Wooper's party sprite look like a Kangaskhan or something?
Whelt 11 months ago
@Whelt
I think they had like 5 sprites for all 151 Pokemon in the first Gen, so this is a bit of an improvement.
MoogleBoss 11 months ago
wow this is quite a new way to play thee pokemon games.
