It's ironic that you copped worldwide scorn over Live Aid, whilst at the same time Morrissey was saying the same thing and ppl bought his records and fawned over him. Do I see a double-standard? I like Morrissey's and Boomtown Rats music myself, but celebs need to be careful trumping how virtuous they are. @andylipsmusic exactly.  David Cameron and the Royal family could easily end suffering and starvation in Africa and the Middle East within an hour with all the money they've got. Geldof targets his charities to teens, the unemployed and the working class people than demanding the idle rich and the politicians to solve the problem.

geldof obviously cares more than anyone. it was doubtful that his music career would have lasted much longer than it did. but it was guaranteed to end once he was known as a saint instead of a rock star.

i suspect that at least some of the anger that you direct at him is a measure of your own deep felt guilt.

Until you admit at least to yourself that you have made mistakes that hurt others - involved them in things that they obviously regret, you will not be able to genuinely forgive yourself..

I challenge people to go out in the world and make an impact, change the world. It is so easy to sit back and judge people and critzize them from a far, but these people don't have the guts or courage to make a difference. Geldof doesn't need all this crap he is getting. Geldof and Bono have established their own living standards and the money they have earned. We all live within our own means. How can you fault them for that. They have earned their money, so they can do with it as they please. Now as far as trying to help others, how many other musicians have made the effort Geldof and Bono has? They could be sitting around doing nothing and counting their money. Heck, they don't need money or fame they already have this!

Personally I liked Bob Geldolf when he was in the Boomownrats. I think its ludicrous to have all these charity events when the celebs could easily donate anonymous percentages of their massive incomes and cut out all the mutual mastabatory crap. I feel much the same about King Jerry Lewis,Prince Lenny Henry and the rest. Celebs get your diabolically rich mates to donate money to Unicef, Redcross,NSPCC etc and stop inventing your own charities.

Where is Lennon's like today in the music 'industry'? The new 'rock rebels' can be found playing at an ever-gathering stream of concerts with 'Live' in their name. I am convinced these concerts must be part of a breeding programme, so often do they now appear. They and their stooges-on-stage are dedicated to 'saving Africa' or 'saving the planet' while serving the very forces of deceit and control that Lennon so memorably identified.
