  • wow it all looks so ... precarious

  • hahaha i love how when it first opened the media said that disneyland would last only a year..... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, how stupid they must feel now :)

    WALT DISNEY FOREVR! <3

  • I wonder how Tomorrow land was built... Did the future come then?

  • Wow, this is OLD. LOL, Disneyland looks so peaceful and calm then when in fact I hear screaming children come night time cuz they wanna get home, kids running up and down main street like it's a playground, and my foot getting run over by millions of strollers in Fantasyland alone...not to mention the rude people bumping into you because there's hardly any breathing space..yet I make it my mission to return each year..sometimes twice lol

  • wow ronald regan as an actor not politician

  • I love how all the reporters are smoking.

  • Hahaha: "In Tomorrowland, the year is 1986..."

Just imagine what it will be like so far in the future!

  • I love Disneyland I went to it a few months ago I would've loved to be here when it opened

  • LEGOLAND IN FLORIDA IS ALMOST OPEN!!!

  • they can do all that in a year? wow. they've been constructing legoland for almost 2 years now lol

  • Disneyland hasn't changed in 50+ years

  • @GoalHornDJ The main street area hasn't changed in 50+ years. The park itself has changed a lot.

  • Is there a similar video for Disneyworld Grand opening?

  • @ Epineda0425, that was just for entrance to the park, it didnt include rides. and they didnt have very many rides when they opened, it was more like a county fair or carnival.

  • I have a parking lot ticket that my father, aunt, and grandparents had from disneyland in 1957. it was the 266 thousand something car to park at the disneyland parking lot, it was .25 cents to park there.

  • @kdj29 $0.25? Wow. I actually went to Disneyland last week and I paid $15 for parking!

  • 15,000 people on opening? That would be a miracle if we could get it down to that today. There'd be zero wait for rides, lol.

I loved how "Ronny Reagan" came on to speak.

    Excellent Video!

  • @Timsierramist Yeah really. I was at Disneyland last week for a couple of days and it was jam packed. I waited about 45 minutes per ride and got my foot run over by multiple strollers with a ton of people running into me. I love Disneyland but (depending on when you go), is just too crowded.

  • @yonz2nugget I just came back from Disneyland about 2 hours ago. This week has been one of the best times to go to Disneyland. The kiddies are in school and labor day is not yet upon us. The wait time for Splash Mountain was 1 minute in the evening and I rode it 3 times in a row. Big Thunder Mountain was 5 minutes and Space Mountain was 15.

Of course if you want a second chance, try hitting up the park after Labor Day. Even the Bobslides are back online for a few.

  • wow. everything looks so different.... he said just a year ago, it was all an orange grove. looking at anaheim now, it's hard to believe it was full of orange trees.

  • disney world is way better they have way more stuff.

  • @erebel55 HA you wish disneyland is the best it's where all the magic started the rest are all fake.

  • disney world is way better they have way more stuff

  • the entrence was 25 cents! nothing compared to now 100 bucks! sooo sad how the world came too charging 100 bucks i wish i would have lived in the 50's

  • Happy 56th Birthday, Disneyland!

  • remember in back to the future doc brown mentioned Ronald Reagan the actor? Ronald was not president yet.

  • Wait... Ronald Reagan? As in, the president?

  • @DeuceyDee yep. he was an actor before he was president.

  • lol in 1955 they though that in 1986 were a trip to the moon is a everyday thing well it wasnt kinda and in 1980 something in the movie back to the future part 2 they thought we would have hoverboards in 2015 well its 2011 and I am still waiting for my hoverboard! :) sorry if i dont know the date when back to the future part 2 came out

PS:this is only my opinion! so no mean replies please

  • I am 78 years'old I'm look construction Disneyland exuse-my I am french

  • Why do they always show the disneyworld castle on disney parks shouldn't they show the disneyland castle since it's the original?

  • it must have been so exiting back then ga

  • they had to remake the beginning because ol Walt wanted it to say

(when you wish upon a star it doesn't matter who you are except if you are a Jew or black or Hindu

  • @RascistPolarBear yeah, i don't dislike either. i think that disney world can get really hot and crowded and i can't really enjoy it as much. not all the time, but sometimes.

  • @RascistPolarBear yeaaaaa, not really.

  • we were the first....:) disneyland<3

  • this is so cute!

  • LMFAO DID HE SAY TOMMAROW LAND IS 1986???!

  • FLORIDA SUCKS Disneyland is OG

  • back on this splendid day Ronald Regan stood up and said "Mr Disney..... I demand you to do tear down this castle!"

  • Going there next year. Can't wait

  • I went on the Matterhorn once...and im never going on it again. I was actually laughing when i got off because how shook up i was. Still God bless Walt Disney for making the best place on earth!!!!

  • i love disneyland so much

  • So if Ronald Reagan was an actor would you see his movie ? Tumbs up = yes . Down = no

  • RONALD REAGAN?!?!??

  • jesus christ ronald reagen

  • I don't think a lot of people realize this was a disaterous day for the Walt Disney Company. The park had 3x more attendance than was invited due to forged tickets, all the attractions were constantly breaking, womens heels were sinking into the asphault due to it being poured the day before, the water fountains weren't working properly and it was over 90 degrees, the media annhilated Disney.

Amazing how fast they turned it around, major props to Walt Disney!

  • @bp1191 i love to go there well im going there for my 14 birth day

  • @bp1191 That was the most caotic day in Disney history, yet they learned from their mistakes and now it truley is The Happiest Place On Earth

  • @bp1191 That's what Hammond comments on in Jurassic Park.

  • "The rehearsal went about the way you'd expect a rehearsal to go if you were covering 3 volcanoes all erupting at the same time and you didn't expect any of them." Haha.

  • "The time and date is 1986 there" Hahaha classic.

  • That place is the best place I have ever been to .

    No Effing Joke.

    <3 DISNEYLAND <3

  • lolol 1986

  • wow i love disney

  • the first Disneyland tickets were only 25 cents, and the first person to buy a ticket was Walts brother roy.

  • 9 ppl thought the "dislike sign" says "dis i like"

  • I WANNA KNOW HOW MUCH WHERE THE TICKETS AT THAT TIME? ! LOL

  • @LRG102589 lol probably 5 bucks....I still have a ticket from 1998 and it was $20

  • wait the person talking at 1:07 is that arlink letter?

  • 9 people will die alone

  • Truly a magical place. So many good memories are tied in to that place, days spent with my parents and my extended family. Thank you, Mr. Disney, for making my childhood so bright. :)

  • 9 people thought this said dis i like

  • awwe i love disney! <3 <3 <3

  • @BiebersGurl4eva make that 9 :) Magic at Disneyland is AMAZING!

  • Saying that Disneyland is the happiest place is the biggest understatement a person can say. Words cannot express the joy and magic of Disney, I would live in the place if I could ^_^ i cant wait to go this summer and share the magic of Disneyland with my boyfriend, he has never been and im sooooo excited to show him the best place on earth!!!

  • 9 people who dislike this should not get Disneyland USA treasures on multi disc dvd set.

  • Wow...who knew back then that Disneyland would become so popular that it would spread to have Walt Disney World, Disneyland Paris and so on....history was made that day.

  • I`ve never been to Disney World and never want to,i have been going to the original for over 45 years, thats all i need.

  • “And of course, Tomorrowland...it’s 1986 there where trips to the moon are an everyday activity and Ronnie Reagan is president."

  • i love disneyland so damn much! it literally is the happiest place on earth!

  • Disneyland is some place very person should go to

  • "And here comes 'Ronnie Reagan'!"

  • 9 people go to Disney World in Florida.

  • @Caboose56 i liked but i go to disney land in florida :(

  • @missmagicdance lol no offense or anything in fact I went to Disney World back in 2003 and I remember a lady asking me if I liked Disneyland there or back in So cal. My answer was and always will be the place that started it all :]

  • @Caboose56 yah, ummm i live in florida thats why, im going in 2 days actually lol

  • Television was so clean back then.

  • 9 people had no childhood

  • 9 people should grow up =]

  • "Those People you see up and down the street are full size people they were not Made by walt disney!" Or are They???????? I love diney

  • You know, there something at Disneyland for everyone. My dad says he hates going to Disneyland and not to get him a ticket, but he reminds my mom to get him one! And he'll sit there and listen to the big bands play in Main Street and I'm sure he enjoys Frontierland. It's safe to say Walt Disney had everyone in mind when making his dream come true for everyone to see.

  • how much was disneyland back then?

  • Disneyland in Anaheim California is the original :)

  • I like the music they play in Disneyland with the bands there so joyful makes me want to jump and dah!

  • i wonder if the ear hats were invented by that time

  • I think Disneyland was more of a home to me than my actual house. My family and I go every year, and even though I'm older, the place still holds wonders for me. Every time I go, something new and magical takes place. We recently discovered the Innovations Building (or whatever it's called) and we literally spent HOURS there. It's a fun place to go if the kids can't handle not playing video games for the whole day. Also, I took my turn on the Matterhorn (which I have been scared of ever since m

  • 8 people didn't wish upon a star....

  • i love Disney so much i go there mostly every weekend. :)

  • @Dawsome11 Wow lol. You must live really close. I love it too!! (: (: (:

  • @bubglenn actually i live in LA but i can still make it there.

  • Disneyland is the best place on Earth!

  • I LOVE DISNEY SO MUCH!

  • Rest in Peace Art Linkletter and Ronny Regan

  • tv is so different now... so sterile

  • I am 13 years old and Disneyland is my favorite place on Earth! Ever since I was 7 I loved it. I am going this year in Apirl and I can't wait. We usually go every other year. I am so excited!

  • Black Sunday at it's best, dang cheaters

  • I never saw Art Linkletter so young!! How neat...the magic is stronger I think when you know the history, & you take the time to watch the old vids. The magic is there if you let it be!

  • Tomorrow Land, Time is 1986, where a trip to the moon is an every day adventure??? What the hell? Where do I get my tickets for that flight?

  • @Silver1Sprg LOL!

  • I wish EuroDisneyland would have been built in Southern Spain, instead of Paris, were the weather sucks. Southern Spain has Southern California climate and the people are much more friendly than in France, no offense to anyone. I think The Disney Co knows this and they regret they didn't opt for Southern Spain, back in the early 1980s, when the took the decision to opt for Paris. Shame.

  • @gardenalien that would have been awesome, plus i heard that Disney is actually a spanish name.

  • I'm 14 years old and I am the biggest Disney fan ever! I went to Disneyworld many times and I just recently went to Disneyland last summer for my first time. What I love about Disney is that all the cast members are so friendly and everything about Disney is just so magical. When I see videos or pictures from Disney I start to cry because its just so amazing how magical Disney really is. And whenever I first walk into the park I start to cry because I'm just so happy I'm there!

  • @thecuteone19

    Me too.

  • Ronald!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 8 people are blind and can't wish upon stars

  • Walt wanted live animals in Disneyworld, but the Animal people he spoke to told him in no uncertain terms the animals would not come out, but rather hide, and the danger of an injury or bite would be fairly high if anyone got close, so you got the fake ones..

  • Back when Mickey smoked, drank and beat Minnie across the kitchen because dinner wasn't ready and she was a Commie luvin bitch!

  • Linkletter wasn't so bold as to boss Reagan around 30 years later!

  • 3:54 It's Ronald Reagan! The ACTOR! Where's the vice-president, Jerry Lewis?

  • @AmericanMan512 What the Hell are you talking about? Maybe you're only seeing these things in the films because you're looking for them. I don't understand where you came up with them at all. Disney has and always will have wonderful movies with great morals.

  • Ronald Regan, was a reporter. Wow, The funny part is that Ronald Regan was president in what would be TommorowLand

  • @TubaHero91 Literally. They say the time is 1986 in Tomorrowland of 1955... conspiracy? (XD)

  • @Yoyoultimate I think 1986 was the passing of a comet.

  • Also wanted to say THANK YOU for posting this rare treasure. 5 STARS!!

It is sad though when watching this to see how far we have degenerated as a nation.....

  • I watched this video and I saw decently dressed, well mannered, bright eyed Americans spending the day with their families in a dignified and orderly manner. Everyone seemed to be having the time of their life without impinging on others space or rights.

Walk into ANY Theme Park or Fair TODAY and the creatures you will rub shoulders are mostly overfed, Flip flop wearing rejects from a Trailer park who are covered head to toe with outrageous Tattoos and who's every other word is an expletive.

  • Here You Leave Today And Enter The World Of Yesterday, Tomorrow, And Fantasy! -Walt Disney

  • I never knew they were 5/8th size...interesting. lol

  • @BiebersGurl4eva those 6 or 7 only care about the Jonas Brothers and High School Musical

  • My grandparents were there opening day. My grandpa said, "This place will never make it."

  • @BiebersGurl4eva more like 6 ppl know the truth about Walter Disney.....

  • ronald regan??

  • I love there. im sure dream cames true!!

  • that guy at the end cant control his excitement level!! cant blame him tho. in 1996 i was crying when we were at mainstreet

  • a whole penny for a saturday nite, wow, and 1.00 for shoes, what happend to disneyland now its 5.00 for a bottled water,

  • @pvtread

4 words: Cost Of Living Increase

I know I wish I could go back to when a candy bar was a nickel and the very first ticket for Disneyland was a single dollar. Sigh...

    Still, I love Disneyland.

  • I'm booking a surprise for my family I did my research at bestvaluethemeparks (.) com

  • Awesome to see Ronnie Reagan

  • 4:38 "And of course there's Tomorrowland and the time is 1986 there, the place is the city of the future where a trip to the moon is an everyday thing..." lol

  • @Recovery101Rule62 Instead, the Challenger blew up in 1986.

  • i'm sooooo glad they have color tv's now

  • This is so wonderful! It's so cool to compare to today!

  • Wow that's so crazy to watch this and compare it to how disneyland is today.......it's so crazy!!!

  • lol their isnt even ONE black person in the whole park,, man what a racist time, they didnt allow black people their

  • @JOKAWILD26 if you watch the whole video from this series, some of the performers are black and sammy davis jr was one of the celebrities there, This day was invite only. you got ot remember that this was southern california , not "the south"

  • i think i lke this better than the one today

  • oh wow, half of this stuff isnt even there anymore, now its over packd, and sometimes annoying, but its still fun

  • Art Linkletter just died.

  • When you wish upon a star at the beginning sounds so pretty.

  • wow that family didn't reherse thst speech at all!!! LOL

  • good god those cars!!...now we would have to sell those cars in the parking lot to get in to the friggin park!!

  • Oh, snap! Ronny Reagan

  • Disneyland is THE place to be.

    Thanks for the memories.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • i love disney

  • Everyone looks thin and healthy. What happened????

  • @szymborski11 fast food was invented

  • @MACchristyy yes unfortunately...

  • @szymborski11 lol, greesy food happend, and the fact that junkfood is a constant lol

  • @szymborski11 Cheese.

  • the parking lot is now california adventures , isnt that crazy

  • @kkgirl300 not only that, but the rocket ship ride isnt there anymore, and i love how they say in 86 a trip to the moon is an everyday thing lol, and we havent even gotten past useing gasoline lol.

  • i love disneyland. i did wen i was little and i do now! =) its truley the happyesy place on earth! i have always loved it!

lmao. "here welll see teh year of 1986. where trips to the moon are an every day event!" lmao. thats halariouse!

  • Great story is that Disney was almost out of money after building the park so couldn't pay Linkletter for hosing. Instead, he offered him exclusive rights to sales of his cameras and film in the park to guests. Needless to say, Linkletter made a small fortune and called it the best deal of his life.

  • ronald reagan lols. who would have thought

  • this is the cutest disney video I've ever seen :D

  • I live in Anaheim!! I love Disneyland!! It's the best place ever! Disney World can suck it, because Disneyland was Walt's real baby!! :D

  • @selphiexfairy agree cant beat the original

  • Happy 55th Birthday Disneyland ºoº

  • Happy Birthday, Disneyland!

  • HAPPY 55TH DISNEYLAND!!!

  • HAPPY 55TH BIRTHDAY DISNEYLAND!!!! ºoº

  • We tried to take a group of Special Education students there and were asked not to return. The kids in wheelchairs were too upsetting to other visitors apparently.

  • Happy 55th Birthday Disneyland! <3

  • As wonderful as this place is I have to wonder when they first allowed African Americans in? Whites didn't even want blacks drinking from the same water foundation as them so I'd have to assume they were definitely unwelcomed. Anyone know?

  • @redhibernation Since Disney is on the west coast race is not much of an issue. Segregation really was only an issue in the south.
