  • i enjoyed this vid

  • great video thanks

  • 240p stripes again xD

  • how much money that cost. you cannot make that free right?

  • 240p, we meet again

  • ya used all concepts and techniques but it should have an perfect appeal its lacking ok fine.

but u guys can improve ur qualities because u are in VC F School, play the video again and again and compare it with ur knowledge made, u will know the difference and lacking concepts and some of the improper works

    good.....

  • camera shake would of gave it more feel to it, the moment the machine landed, for the rest not bad good job

  • Cool! They should make the Avatar 2 or something...

  • cool video of flying stuff in the sky awsome love the colors to great.

  • i am aware of what software they are using?,, great visual effect in to their level...

  • I think you shouldve cracked some ground underneath the robots landing so it connects with the environment more realistically

  • How do you paste the man over the robot in the second breakdown. The robot is over the top of the man then you paste him over. Been trying to figure out how to do it for ever.

  • @thorna100 Just Rotoscope him out

  • Problem .... why are the aircrafts flying over water ..but you can't see the reflection???

  • very nice

  • Fake guy fake UFO Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaakkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • @90lightsaber Well obviously it's gonna be fake because it's CG you dumba**

  • @90lightsaber dude, are you kidding?? if you don't even know that this is a vfx reel, then how the heck did you get here?? :P

  • @ 0:12 This could be a problem.

  • can i have your software? is that a software or a school??

  • @markjason2 VFS is an Entertainment Arts school based in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

  • really good i'm currently going back to school in the same field this must have taken a month or so if it was just on person lots of long hours but so worth it

  • owesome like it like it like it like it!!!!!!!!!!!♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

  • coool.. !!! but, there is no shadow on the water???

  • hey,,,,this looks grate....I like it....do you have a facebook or website? i want too see of the works you have done.

  • @jamalcanada You can find more from VFS at vfs(dot)com and on our blog at vfs(dot)com/blog. We also have our own Facebook page at facebook(dot)com/VancouverFilmSchool. Thanks!

  • @jamalcanada Correction: Great not grate hahaha

  • @VancouverFilmSchool

Would you like to tell me the name of the programs (to list them) that you use to make Visual Effects and 3D Animations?

    Thanks in advance

  • @Cech9393 Our students typically use Maya and/or XSI, as well as ZBrush and Renderman depending on what their needs are. Although at VFS our primary focus isn't on which software students use – we prefer to focus on teaching core skills and how to use software as a tool. Thanks!

  • Do you guys upgrade your software whenever new versions come out?

  • @csavoy1 At VFS we are always upgrading technology to keep up with industry use.

    Thanks!

  • It still looks fake. The secret to thiese things is that you need to have a really good video camera that can shoot 24 frames and not 60. so it can look like a real movie.

  • @BinaryPhoenix it has nothing to do with that. the problem is he did not put enough video noise over his cgi layers and he did not consider the video scene lighting when rendering his cg. so it looks shiny and fake and amateur. those 2 things if corrected would make this look a lot better.

  • @BinaryPhoenix

well just one person...imo thats really good for a single person =3

  • Looks maybe Sci Fi channel quality maybe Discovery Channel, not feature film stuff. I would love to know the actual time spent on that project.

  • No reflections in the water at the beginning...but cool

  • how do you hide the vfx object behind the character at 0:29?

    pls answer :D

    btw great video :)

  • @hqwuih It looks like they duplicated the main scene to make an extra layer where they masked out everything apart from the character, and brought that layer to the foreground so he is able to appear on top of everything.

  • @NitrousOxideAion

    i think so too

i just thought that there is maybe another technique than rotoscoping because this takes so long...

well btw after effects cs 5 has got a feature that kind of masks things out automatically.

  • @hqwuih Cool. Yeah it's either gotta be Rotoscoping, or green screened. The breakdown didn't show any use of a greenscreen, so i figured it was rotoscoping. Pretty cool though!! I love the stuff on their channel!

  • No shadow or reflection on the water in 1st scene :/ But very good reel. Gratz!

  • War Of The Worlds much?

  • how did you get the ship behind the man?

  • the ships look awesome, but the movement's a little static (not the last scene, but the flybys).

    The dissolving looks tight.

  • Awesome, but that scream is so overused! Sound guy should have recorded an original. YEAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!

  • reminds me of the show doctor who haha that's tight.

  • how long did it take you to make this clip?

    Thanks

  • I want this to be my career what should i do?!!!

  • So much work done for only thirty seconds of film. Impresive.

  • you guys are awesome

  • wat is the software they use? to make visual effects? please leave me a msg.. tnx. everyone

  • Check out the credits at the end for what software was used. Thanks!

  • The video is too low res for the credits to be legible.. I could only figure our Maya and Boujou.. what are the other 4?

    Thanks

  • @VancouverFilmSchool is this a filmschool, for people who whant to be directors, or more like an animation CGI school, for visual effects? thanks!

  • @NickRiviera10 Hi, thanks for getting in touch! At VFS we actually have 13 different entertainment arts programs for training for a range of careers. For someone interested in becoming a director, our Film Production program is most relevant, and for Visual Effects careers, our 3D Animation & Visual Effects program would be the one for you. Find the full list at vfs(dot)com/programs. Thanks!

  • @VancouverFilmSchool thanks alot for this information, I really love this school, is it possible to learn visual effects while I'm studying filmmaking? 'cause I'll like to learn both hehe! and last question (soryy for all this) Have your students awarded festivals but not in visual effects but as dierctors, in a not so CGI film? thanks alot and yes I'll go there once I finish high school hehe !

  • @Erastofilms01 its photoshop i tink

  • @Erastofilms01 cuz hes too lazy to let you know: adobe after effects cs 4, maya or 3ds max. as working with these 2 youll notice you need some more depending on your needs.

  • Howie scream? :P

  • Robots are turning/jumping too fast for their masses, but fly too slow for turbine-driven vessels.

Also, earth should crack when the robot landed. Foliage on the road will float on the air because of propulsion.

Think less about shiny effects, more about the truth behind the action.

Anyway keep working, good job. 5 stars from me.

  • @sergeistarko actually the truth behind the action isn't that they are too slow when flying and too fast for their size. Do planes cause the earth to crack because they are a few tons? No. And as for the slow flying. Couldn't it maybe be a tactical thing? Reduced speed for easier target finding?

  • the fist part (on water) need the reflect on the water.

  • @goranification yeah first shot is fail no reflection

  • THAT was sick!!!!!! 2 thumbs up.

  • Really nice!!!!!!!!

  • It was pretty awesome but you may want to think of adding some weak reflection in the water at the beginning. Bit more shadow on the legged creature but all and all it was great. Nice Job.

  • there were some lightning problems at the end...the flying device was brighter then buildings..which would be impossible..and..u shudef gotten a better running-guy ..but the vid was pretty impressive..especially at the beginning

  • It's the most common problem I see, even in commercial movies, King Kong for one did a shit job on that.

  • thats why im studying 3d arts :)

  • I can't belive this. War of the worlds II can't do that. And students from a school do it perfectly. lol.

  • i wish to have the money to study in your school

  • find tut aroung vfx site

    or videocopilot

  • @distorcion45 how much does it cost to study for one year in VFS

  • @dtselo You can find information about tuition for one of our one-year programs at vfs(dot)com/admissions. Thanks!

  • Saluti dall' ITALIA

    fantastik video.. super graphik!

  • can some 1 tell me how to get this kinda stuff?

    like visuel effects programs

    sound programs

    good editing programms

ty alot if some 1 can tell me

  • Try these:

    Apple Final Cut Studio

Adobe Master Collection (After Effects and Photoshop)

Autodesk 3D Studio Max and Maya

    XSI

    E-on Vue X-Stream

    There's loads...

  • FL Studio ( Music )

Jeskola Buzz ( Harder but Better then FL Studio )

    Carrara 7 / Pro

  • Dont forget Cinema 4d

    amazing 3d software as well

and boujou for the 3d tracking

  • go to vancouver film studio :)

  • reflections on water are easy

  • i wish i could do such a video..too bad i can't!!!:(

    5\5

  • I've been looking for someone familiar with 3D effects, i work for outspark (Fiesta Online) i make guides, trailers but also 9 minut long movies.

Now my question is: Do you wanna become member of number7studios as a 3D specialist?

  • Reflections are too hard I guess.

  • I doubt it, just add a displacement map over the water... I mean I'm not an expert but I can think of alot of ways to do it... If you can add a reflection on the other shots with the robot on the ground, i'm sure it can be done on water

  • Comment removed

  • Im sure he just forgot a little detail, there's always those little things you realize you forgot at the end

  • Looks really good, but on the first shot I didn't see a reflection on the water.

  • that really bothered me.

  • Yeh I noticed that too

  • Now that you guys have mentioned that I have noticed it too.

However I believe, that the first shot is the best integration with the plate out of all the shots.

While all the other shots are still good, this one feels like the ships where shot on location with the plate. Well Done!

  • Good point, didn't notice that on the first run. Still the animation and effects are outstanding.

  • how do they make mask?

  • Masking as in Alpha Mask in After Effects? If that's what your asking write me a message and I'll explain.

  • Yes that is what i need...thanks

  • Very well done. Except on the last shot where the guy gets hit, the monster does not blend as good with the background. I am not sure weather it is the lack of shadows or if it is the reflection on the monster, but something is a bit off. Other than that fantastic job!

  • very nice i give it a billion stars!!

  • cool video

  • why dont you take your time and make a full lenght movie?

  • Excellent demo reel !! Best wishes for 2009 !

  • great

  • The robot looks waay too clean when put in the same frame with the guy getting shot, and the shadows, even though they're there, they're not consistent with the rest of the shadows in frame.

I also think that shadows along the buildings when the robots passing by and reflections in the windows and water would have sold the image better, but there's some real good work in there so far.

  • its decent. remember these guys are students

  • i liked the war of the worlds ending

  • yep, no water reflection and more shadows could be, but C O O L, all these vids.

  • Ummmmm, shadow? Occlusion ground?

  • k

the reflections were off... couldn't tell the MB issues because of the youtube quality.. but the comp altogether was lacking something... looked too clean, and the reflections in the buildings were weird...

and what happened to the shadows??

  • I think the shadows were quite realistic, as you can see when teh robots nose hits the ground that theres a shadow, but i think that it needed a bit more motion blur.

  • nice :D but no reflections in the water in the beggining:P and no shadows

  • oh~nice

  • lo voglio fare anche io....

  • forgot to add motion blur., makes it look pretty fake

  • no reflections in water.. no shadow in the robot killing the man

  • very nice

  • hektik!wish i could do that!

  • I love how i recognize every street!

  • no reflection on Water in begining... but awesome

  • I moticed it too! But I liked the guy that gets dematerialized at the end:)

  • @frco88 pft. you got it all wrong. aliens don't have reflections lol

  • 45 seconds werth of credits!

  • damn.... Man you're great

  • Awesome.

  • At the beginning there's no reflection in the water of the ships.

  • I noticed that aswell.

  • its probably stealth :)

  • I think it's a mistake.

  • There IS a reflection of the ships?

  • no there isn't

  • excellent!

    but what abt the shadows

    makes it a real unrealistic

    but still

its so awesome that hardly anyone would notice

    excellent job

  • no reflections or shadows...

  • hold on hold on! Rommel Shamoun? is he lebanese?

  • base is great but where are the layers when the ships pass over the water

  • in the beginning they did not reflect over the water ..but the video is awesome...!!

  • how long time did you use??

  • man! that was awsome! I wish my projects will be that good! very very cool man!

  • in the beginning shouldnt the ships be creating some sort of reflection on the water?

  • ye, well noticed. and to whoever gave him negative for it: This is a demo reel - the person who made it obviously wants to learn of things they are doing wrong so that they can improve.

  • yeah, but you godda idmit, it still was a pretty cool shot, for one student to make;)

  • he he he pretty freaky!

I think it would be cooler if the alien spaceships were glowing.

  • Loved the breakdowns lolz

  • hahaha crazy cool!

  • Looks like CYBER-FROG. An old indy comic, great vid!

  • VFS makes top quality work!

  • Maybe at least inspired by War of the Worlds? Regardless, very well done.

  • this is awsome

  • that looked like "war of the worlds"

  • Great Vaporizing effect. Weight of the alien ship landing was a little of. Maybe more shadows?

  • nice credit effects.

  • WOW....NICELY DONE...TALENT!!!

  • umm...VFS 3D Animation & Visual Effects...says in description

  • VFS 3D Animation & Visual Effects is the COLLEGE programme, not the actual software.

  • he could have used any number of tools to create this - that isn't what's important, it is the skill and the knowledge to use those tools that matters

  • WOW!!real COOL...

  • Damn, you guys are GOOD!

  • good work

  • wow amazing! fantastic! it blew me of my seat!

  • does anyone go to this school because i was thinking about going to it and i would really like to talk to somebody about this

  • Contact an advisor on their website if you want answers!

  • crazy talent

  • no refletions in the water ?

  • Sharp!

  • 5 stars brilliant

  • Pretty slick, but it would have been cool to have a more original death ray instead of the War of the Worlds one.

  • Awesome!

  • cool

  • Man, that's awesome!

  • Awesome
