  • I live in Ann arbor,Mi and people still talk about this case to this day.

  • I wish I knew what the hell was going through Cara Schmidt's mind, when she started all of this!

You cannot do that to somebody- raising their hopes, and then changing her mind like that? It's not right, and it's not fair, on either Jessica or her adoptive parents!

  • @BigMamaFurter I know, and if there were issues to resolve with the child's father she should have addressed that before making her final decision. That was a major cause of all the trouble. Cara knew there was a possibility Dan was the father, and should have thought alot of things out more clearly even during her pregnancy.

  • I followed this story back when the battle was going on in court. I am happy that Baby ANNA (her name given to her by her real/biological parents)grew up with her biological family.

The DeBoers knew the law was against them and they should have given her back at 6 weeks old instead of selfishly dragging the poor child through the court system and media for over TWO YEARS, keeping her away from her parents, and bashing her parents as "unfit". Best interest of the child? Right..

  • if the foster parents would have said ok i will give jessica back the baby wouldnt have gone to the real parents because cara gave up her daugter and dan on paper was not the father then and jessica would have gone to a foster home so it would still be the same so jessica would have still been dragged around courts and so on

  • but how can you say this......the deboers did nothing wrong they wanted to adopt and they did everything by the book cara gave the baby up in the first place all the deboers did was adopt and if they did give jessica/anna back she would of had to go to foster parents not the real father the person is to blame is cara put yourselfs in robbys shoe after she bonded with the baby so much she was told to give her back now would you been able to do that once there was a bond i dont think so

  • when I saw this on the news I felt for the real parents (by real I mean the ones that took her, loved her, were raising her with love and gave her a lovely home). Now that I have a child of my own and he is the age of Jessica when they had to give her away I just dont know how they could have allowed her to be taken from the only parents she knew. My son is very aware of mommy and daddy and he would be devastated if he was taken away not to mention my husband and I.

  • This story of baby Jessica will ALWAYS be in my memory, it was one of the sadest stories in America in the 90's.

I hope the family is doing well.

  • ok yes like roberta says it was the law i still think that she should have baby jessica that is not fair the law taken the only mom baby jessica knew away why should the schmidts have her she gave up her baby she wanted the baby out of guilt think that when baby jessica grows up that her real mummy gave her away the bitch the law is shit
