  • Молодец!!!

  • yep. im selling my bass.

  • someday, someday i will play this solo (next year?)

  • I am pretty sure he maid it

  • this is a good inspiration for me!! i love playing double bass but i play noting like this guy!! AWESOME :D

  • Excellent playing - very enjoyable recording. Thanks!

  • Браво!!!

    Awesome performance!!!

And to play with french bow is awesome. It gives you so much freedom and it is very compact to play with. But the bow is not the most important here. The bow is just a stick and nothing more... This man is just awesome.....

  • you bassists out here, can you tell me if cello players have it a lot easier with the bass? could one compare it to, lets say, playing the guitar and picking up the ukulele (or vice versa)?

  • @1Silvus1 Coming from somebody who has a little experience with cello and much more with bass, in my opinion, bass is much more difficult. It'd be better to compare it to somebody playing the ukulele and then picking up the guitar.

  • @1Silvus1 I switched to bass from the cello and found that the bass was much easier for me, but then again the bass brings other problems that the other string instruments dont have to deal with, it is harder to play extentions with the bass. But the cello is the most similar, if you play it about everyday, you should get the hang of it around 3 to 4 weeks for a moderate beginner level. Hope this helps ya!

  • Excellent playing! This is the clearest and most precise performance of this piece I could find on this site. Props to you, and P.S. ( what type of strings do you use?)

  • Nice shifting what's the highest note below the fingerboard that u played???

  • Вы попасть в симфонии YouTube?

  • You are right, BUT this acceleration is marked in the music by the composer!

  • A commanding performance.

  • Your articulation is so excellent!

  • this is absolutely astonishing

  • I have been a bass player for many years, and I cannot recall a more beautiful, full tone I have heard. I have even played and taken classes from Edgar Meyer. I thought that he had an unbeatable tone, but when I heard this, my sould cried. You are amazing.

  • I've watched this at least 30 times now. O_O

  • Love the tone!

  • im a guitarist learning how to read music on both clefs and learning the bass also

  • GOOD JOB!

  • as an advanced 2nd year bass player, only can only look forward to this and practice practice and practice

  • This is great, I'm a bassist and am a begginer-intermediate player, finishing up our first book in 6th grade.

  • @TheOrange521 you can one day do this. :) you have the start that i didn't, only getting into playing bass in high school. it really is an amazing instrument, and i hope you do great things. :)

  • Incredible. Truly inspiring. But, why french bow style?

  • @MadFlenser he probably likes the french bow better, I would go for a german bow 2, but you can't force him to play with something he doesn't want

  • @RYANN36 obviously not. But I have heard of orchestras only taking german bow players...

  • perfect sound

  • im learning this on cello

  • excellent crisp fast passages in the dittersdorf. what kind of strings do you use? response sounded great.

  • i play bass its my third year i play for my school in 8th grade, im principle bass in varsity, and hope to become as good as you:D

  • amazing.

  • Quick, someone give this man the internet!

  • wow. you got skillz

  • yes french bow!

  • nice bass too

  • i hope to be like this some day.

  • I agree with last comment. How do you go so fast???????!!!!!!

  • holy shit....did you make it? cause if you didnt, ima go hang myself.

  • you have the godly ability of keeping your bow speed perfect, where did you did the music to this?

  • Замечательное исполнение! Браво!

  • This is one of the best double bass videos ive seen! Amazing!! no doubt!

  • holy crap 2:06

i want to play like you

  • your bow arm control is amazing , i'm stunned

  • O.O Amazing...

  • bravo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @zayahsan 16th notes

  • God! I'm playing in my school orchestra and we just started 8th notes. What is this guy doing?! And am I the the only double-bassist who noticed that there is no can-can on YouTube that's just double bass?

  • ive seen bass players but ive beens always been told by my teacher since i play the cello that wenan orchestra plays it should sound altogether lik one instument playing but very loud!!but the way yuh play the bass it sounds lik yur bumping strings and sounds lik many basses

  • good

  • One of the best bassists I've ever heard!!! Amazing tone, articulation and pitch! I just couldn't leave this page without favoriting this! Congrats!!!

  • I didnt think a bass could be this beautiful until I saw this video :) you are truly talented! please post more videos!

  • Comment removed

  • fantastic, hes the best ive ever heard

  • I am only 13 and I play the violin, I didnt think the bass could be SO beautiful! A girl in my Orchestra class has trouble with the Bass because she is so small- it looks so hard to play but you make it look so easy. Its beautiful!!

  • Bravo! Excellent intonation. Beautiful sound. Elegant bowing. You make the Dittersdorf sound (and look) easy! I'm circulating this video to my bass students!

  • @ryanandemma123, I am a bassist in highschool, you can't let the 9th freak you out, the part he plays here is not that challenging to play, but to play it with the precision and tone he plays with is the challenge. what ya gotta do, get the notes under your fingers at a very slow tempo, one note at a time even, then gradually increase to tempo, as you increase the speed push yourself harder to get the best intonation and sound possible

  • Virtuoso....

  • I love this. You are truly amazing.

  • I love this. You are truly amazing.

  • I have just started playing double bass, and this is amazing. I can honestly say this inspired me. I wish to someday be as good as you.

  • This is simply amazing. I play Viola and I love hearing the under dogs rock it! Bass solos are unbelievable, this is fantastic. :) My brother just started playing and I made him watch this. He's inspired ahah :D

  • @InsrtUsrnmeHere yes it really is inspiring even though I play the violin. :) i made my parents watch this :D

  • @InsrtUsrnmeHere my girlfriend just started playing and I made her watch this too! hahaha

  • @InsrtUsrnmeHere lol viola players call us "under dogs"

  • @hentaiwarrior16 I was referring to myself as well..

  • @InsrtUsrnmeHere

I wish you would play the Delius Viola Sonata on You Tube. Thanks.

  • as a fellow bassist, electric, and double (both jazz and real orchestra pieces) I can honestly say you are one of the best bassists I have ever seen

  • @comalley0130 You should see adam ben ezra. HE'S the BEST bassist I'Ve ever seen

  • I certainly hope you were chosen, your audition is incredible. I have used your video for instrument demonstration for home school children. Thanks for sharing !

  • Check out Simandl Book II, page 56.

  • Damn!... I wanna play as you!... but I think that I'm so baby still... :-(

This video is really great! ;-)

  • thats so good it doesnt sound like any bass i've heard

  • This is the best bass playing I have ever heard.

  • Bravo :)

  • WHOA! dude that looks pretty hard to do but it makes a beautiful sound when you actually do it! i mean i play a violin and i dnt even no how to do THAT!

  • Bravo...very well played

  • french bow all the way :)

when i use the german bow for a long time my wrist really hurts.

and you are REALLY amazing ! 5 stars :D

  • the reason it hurts is because you have poor technique, obviously. But, the choice is yours to what you play. I prefer German bow to the French. =D

  • you really make the bass sing

  • what type of bass do you play?

  • Very nice indeed. Left hand, accurate and smooth. Bow, good tone and fantastic control. The Dittersdorf isn't great music, but you've made the best of it. Bravo!

  • why do you say that the dittersdorf isn't very good music? it sounds pretty good to me. is it just your tastes, or is there some academic reasoning behind it that i don't know?

  • I didn't say Dittersdorf isn't good, I said he isn't great. It's hardly controversial. Beethoven is great, Dittersdorf is good.

  • well true, not many composers rack up to beethoven. but still, i have to be honest, my own composition abilities can't even rack up to dittersdorf^^

by the way, the bass playing is superb. really crisp tone and very in tune.

  • This guy is RIDICULOUSLY good. I'm envious as a fellow bass player. Of course he has some years on me, and probably practices a lot more.;) five stars

  • amazing

  • wow. that was awesome.

  • hey you use the same strings i use!

  • Spirocores? Have you compared them to Evah Pirazzis?

  • lol im just a 16 yearold student who just got spirocores

  • Got ya beat, I'm 15 with Spirocores... I've heard the Pirazzis are excellent for arco.

  • belcanto? I use those too. love em so much :)

  • when i look at this i am ashamed of doing silly things like dragonhunter and oh to joy

  • cool thing about this is that i just started to learn this piece and the video really helps with positioning and stuff !!! :D

  • i play bass in 7th grade pretty good for my age, , I use french bow also , I dont like german bow

  • i dont really like french. german bow+underhand grip is awesome!

  • HA!! he uses the french bow! I'm not alone in the world!

  • erm....don't you always use the french bow for the base?

  • no you can also use the german bow for bass

  • i use french bow as well your not alone!

  • I play Bass I'm in 7th grade not nearly as good, I'm fairly good tho

  • it justs sounds so nice, soo great

  • Your dynamic control is sublime.

    Consummate playing.

  • yeah, i agree w/ livingmuzik. i played this piece not long ago for a college audition ( because college is expensive these days ) and wow was it hard lol anyway, you have a great sound !!!

  • you took a lot of slures out of this piece which i think makes it a lot less difficult... but I love the tone man.... keep it up!!!

  • i need to practice a lot more. haha

  • I have no musical talent whatsoever, and I feel so jealous when I watch skilled performers like you.

  • Sehr gut spielt!

  • I love your bass.

  • Absolutely the best I have ever heard, amazing -- played for 34 years (Never professional) and couldn't come close to this...Great job...Awesome sounding bass as well.

  • j'adore :))

  • This is wonderful :]

  • I like a lot (you have my vote)! Your notes sound clear and crisp. Keep it up!

  • How long have you played? I played the electric bass for four years, and this summer I started the double bass. What advice do you besides practicing every day which I do

  • that was really good.i have only been playing 4 like half a year and i have never seen notes down past the finger board. good job

  • This... is amazing. Your tone is amazing, that's clear to someone who can barely play a double bass. One question: You can play very quickly, yet on my double bass the strings are so high from the fingerboard that I have trouble actually pushing them down far enough to sound anything other than harmonics. How did you manage the speed? Just amazing amounts of practice?

  • To BAJJMiller

That sounds to me like your bass might have a jazz bridge.

The difference between a Jazz bridge and a classical bridge is that a jazz bridge is, as you explained, much higher so that strings stick out a lot more.

Although for some reason I feel like I'm confusing the two and that a jazz bridge is lower...

Might have just been lousy craftsmanship. I've handled quite a few basses over the years and some of the were just bad.

  • That's interesting, I didn't know they could be adjusted almost in the way that electrics could be.

I'm quite sure it's not lousy craftsmanship, as it's close to 100 years old, been passed down through my family, and apparently it cost quite a lot back then. If anything it might be because of that situation it's quite beat up, just about everything is showing wear except the actual fingerboard. How often do strings need to be replaced? These haven't been in about 30 years. Could that be it?

  • Sometimes instruments that get handed down through the family get treated the worst, in the most subtle of ways.

Chances are that no one has removed the rosin from the strings in so long they've stiffened up as a whole.

I just recently took a special toll I made out of a paperclip and removed the rosin that's been building up on the strings of my bass for the past 4 years and afterward everything I played sounded better. Tone was better, I had easier control over dynamics, etc.

  • lol he has the same model bass an strings as i have

  • Молодец, Геннадий!

  • U
