  • i tried it and now the phone won't turn on :( what do you think i did wrong?

  • @bhath1212

Mine did the same thing. Only thing I noticed different in the process was a little D shaped rubber piece fell out during the "Take off black thing" part (1:17) and I have no idea where that was supposed to go. Also, when connecting the cable, the little door that goes over the end didn't want to stay down even though I made sure the cable was lined up right and not blocking it. But the original had tape over it, so I put that back over it. :/

  • @biakeller

Thank you so much! It works for me. I just finished repairing my Chocolate. It's been stashed away in my room for years until I came across how to fix it and wondering if I could. Perseverance! I did it thanks to you. Take care.

  • @JalipeJude

    no prob! good job! ;)

  • heres a better way to fix your problem.... find a nice beach, river, or lake (any large body of water) and using ur best throwing arm and throw that son of a bitch as far as you can like it was a live gernade.. and poof! problems gone [:

  • @YO1NK1

are you gonna make a video to demonstrate on how it's done?

    haha ;)

  • where can u buy the type of screw driver

  • DOLLAR STORE

  • where can u buy the type of screw drivier

  • My piece of shit "chocolate" phone snapped in my jeans pocket while bending over.

I'm on a 3 year plan, and the phone is quite obviously not capable of surviving 3 years.

Telus's stance is that they are the service provider and cant do anything about it.Call LG

LG's stance is the warranty is up.Call Telus.

Seems they have quite the little loophole to avoid responsibility.

Does anyone know of any class action lawsuits against telus for this kind of ignorant bullshit? pm me if so.

  • These phones are the biggest pieces of shit that have ever existed

  • will this work on the 8550?

  • i don't know, maybe.

  • this shit just happened to my chocolate phone, and i just got it three weeks ago and they wanna charge me to fix it, i'll just replace the flex cable

  • Ey men i am noob in this, but can repair without buy a flex cable, in my country dont buy that and dont use the ebay.

  • you need a flex cable to fix it.

  • new flex cable didn't fix my phone, still white screen... :(

  • buy a new phone, stay away from LG because LG SUCKS!!!

  • would the same flex cable used on a vx8500 lg chocolate work on a vx8550 chocolate?

  • i don't know, maybe. you would have to try it yourself.

  • i have the red one... i think its the k800... an my screen keeps goin out.,, it turns white.. than comes back on.. can i fix it like this ???

  • i don't know, the only one i've done is the one. they're probably similar, probably same idea, but again i'm no expert.

    good luck!

  • This worked perfectly! THANKS!

  • Just wondering if my pictures will still be on the phone. The only reason I want to try and fix it is to grab the pics from phone and stick them back onto sd card so they're not gone forever. I already got a new phone, so if the flex cable fix will save me, I'll try it :)

  • yes if it's just the screen that is broken ("white") then the pics should still be in there.

  • Can I like ship you my phone and pay you to fix mine for me?

  • no. i am not a phone-fixer person. i'm just someone who fixed her own phone and put instructions on youtube for other people to attempt themselves.

if i can do it, then so can you!!

    good luck!!

  • i will I'm a phone expert and for free you just pay for the shipping

  • I don't suppose you know how to un-brick these phones? Do they have some kind of hard-reset feature?

  • i don't know what you mean by un-brick??

  • Yeah, sorry that was a bit obscure. I have an 8500 that just constantly reboots when you switch it on. Do you know if there's some kind of switch or something inside the phone that will do a hard reset and restore it back to working order? Thanks!

  • I followed your instructions and it worked like a charm. Got my phone working again! Thank you! I am on my 4th Chocolate. These phones suck! next month when my contract is up I am getting an iPhone.

  • stay away from LG. they break better than spring break.

  • wow that was sorta lame lol

  • very impressive!! I followed right along the video, fixed my flex cable, then continued to fix the lcd screen!! The process of attaching/detaching the flex cable is identical to the lcd attachment. Thanks so much!!

  • what about lg ax800 cause i realy need help on that one

  • hey would this work on a krazzer??

  • heeey i don't know. all i know is what i've tried; LG8500. sorry! good luck ;)

  • Thanks man, got the white screen a day ago. Thing whoever had it before me had the problem(all screws where already out) so i can just pop it open.

  • Hey, i did this and it worked and everything, there was just one problem. Some sort of magnet fell out when i was doing it and now when i slide my phone shut, it wont close its windows. And when i slide it open it wont open its screen either. I have to hit end. Any suggestions?

  • hmmmm.... i don't know.... where exactly did this magnet fall from? if you have a pic of it,send it to my email.... send me a message on youtube and i'll send you my email....

  • my screen is black should dis take care of dat too?

  • i THINK it might. you should google "black screen LG chocolate fix yourself" and see what type of results you get.

I would try switching the FLEX cable first, and then i would try to switch the LCD screen (that can also be bought on ebay, just search "LCD screen chocolate phone").

good luck, and let me know what happens! ;)

  • mine does the same thing. it goes black and i have to turn it on and off again like five times before the screen goes back to normal. such a crappy phone

  • Biakeller...BTW, how do you feel about the LG Dare? Do you think they are pretty much the same, (in quality), as the other LGs? And....do you have any opinion about the Blackberry Storm? I was just wondering and I value your opinion. (I have the Dare now, and it has been great, so far....but, I have been eyeing the Storm---if it wasn't so much darned extra every month for the extra service for it.) Thanks agin for your help on the Chocolate.

  • Thank you, thank you for the info on fixing the white screen problem!!!! I was able to fix my son's phone tonight, and it only cost me about $10 for the part. BIAKELLER, you are my personal hero for posting the video!!!

  • No Problem! i'm glad i helped you! remember, in the future: stay away from LG cellphones. they're pretty, but they ALWAYS break.

congratulations on saving more than 100 BUCKS!!! ;)

  • Appreciate the DIY instuctions to help a person save a buck. This is a good overview but more detailed instructions for attaching the ribbon would be helpful. After opening up the phone twice, it is now less responsive that before.

  • when i put my phone apart, i didn't have any instructions. i thought it would be nice of me to put some instructions online so that people would have some guidance. all i know is that the screen problem can be fixed by changing the flex cable, and if followed like from my video you should be able to succeed. of course, one must be very careful when taking a phone apart. you should try it again. good luck!

  • (After taking foot out of mouth) Disregard the last part, I just went to your site, would still appreciate any thoughts on the problem. Thanks!

  • i would think that the problem is the LCD since some idiot walked on it. you can buy new screen on ebay, just search. it should be the same idea as changing the flex cable, i'm sure you could figure it out! i think the screen costs about $15. good luck, let me know how it goes! ;)

  • I have a quick question, my screen displays strange artifacts and is like, mega bright-washed and slightly off moire, is it likely the ribbon is bad, or the actual LCD, it was stepped on by an idiot friend at a gathering at my house...? You should start a blog with embedded video's on all the different HowTos, I'd be a serious fan!

  • Thanks i was able to fix my phone with this ... i got the cable including shipping for $9

  • sweet! good for you, i'm happy to hear! i also have tips on how to fix ipods if you're interested ;)

  • well ya thanx i found another website but the things is that its like 13$ its a good price do

  • yeah $13 is better than $100 for the phone company to fix for you!

was there none left on ebay? what's the website so that other people can go there....

  • its supposed to be that price to fix but u wont believe what i tell you. An African dude at verizon wireless fixed my chocolate for free. the thing is, 6 months later the screen goes white :P

  • hey is there another place that you can get them?

  • probably but i only know of ebay. when in doubt,GOOGLE IT! ;)

  • thanks man and whats the song

  • hey i'm a girl ;)

the song is by Sum 41 "Pain for Pleasure". sahweeet!

    laterz, and good luck!

  • is there ne other way to get the flew cable besides ebay? and do u always need a new one or can it just come unplugged?

  • there probably is another place, however ebay is the only place i've ever tried/seen.

i guess it COULD become unplugged but i think it's very unlikely. you could take the phone apart and see if that is the case. the little teeth-connector things on it should be locked down by a gate (you flip the gate up/down at each end of the cable).

so you didn't find the cable on ebay? did you try clicking on the link i put on the information section of this video?

  • i was on my way to a friends house and i had it in my backpack full of magnets and the phone was far away from them but i had my ds in between so i was like, weirded out because my ds was not affected by them but i think the phone was. anyways should show this to my parents and let them do it because i am probably not good at circuts

  • a razor blade can work to loosen the screws

  • ok so i bought the flex cable, now where the heck do i find a screw driver that tiny

  • i bought mine at a dollar store. you could probably also find it at walmart, superstore, etc.

  • yeah i just bought the exact same sqrew driver you have in the video, and the screws wont loosen at all

  • i had the same problem, it was on reeeeaallly tight. i had my boyfriend open two of the screws for me. he used a plier-wrench type thing to rotate while i held the phone on the table. i thought maybe just my phone screws were super tight, but i guess they all are? don't give up, it DOES open. ask for help from someone strong.

  • i bought this screw driver, its not a flat head, and it has a good handle, so it made the screws extreamly easy to turn, so that problem is out of the way, now my other problem is attaching the flex cable back on the last part, with the new flex cable, and you know that sticky part, its getting in the way, and im confused on how to attach it.

  • are you talking about the sticker thing? the sticker thing i removed altogether. the flex cable can be attached by the teeth connector thing (the flex cable has teeth in the end which attach to the corresponding teeth on the phone). then there's a lock that you flip over once the teeth are in place.

  • I dont see anyplace to buy that cable on ebay.

    do you have a link.

  • cool
