Jessica doesn't have a bad voice, she just doesn't touch your soul like Gladys does. I think Jessica has a stronger voice than Lauryn Hill, but Lauryn is closer to Gladys in creativity and being truly expressive.

I think the producers had a sense of humor putting Jessica up there with one of the all time greats. They were all sitting back stage laughing when Jessica opened her mouth. LOL. Thank God Gladyse saved the performance.
Gladys was incredible as always, and she's such a warm and generous performer to get up there with Jessica Simpson and let her even try to sing the song. I'm surprised it wasn't a TOTAL disaster, so since I thought it was going to be really really bad I think it was ok. Once Gladys started singing though it was all over for Jess. God her tone is still phenomenal! I have to say Jessica Simpson was brave to even get up there.

After a while (at that time) I switched to a song by George Thorogood, "I Drink Alone."
The key line is: "When I drink alone, I prefer to be by myself."
This seemed to fit my grief better -- grief can be sweeter when private.
These memories are now warm ones to me, after maturing with time.

Gladys was incredible as always, and she's such a warm and generous performer to get up there with Jessica Simpson and let her even try to sing the song. I'm surprised it wasn't a TOTAL disaster, so since I thought it was going to be really really bad I think it was ok. Once Gladys started singing though it was all over for Jess. God her tone is still phenomenal! I have to say Jessica Simpson was brave to even get up there.
