  • MEGA!!!! bass!!! orgasm!!!

  • Which album is this on? Thankyou.

  • listened to this while tripping balls stoned on mdma. found it in my downloads the next day (don't know how i managed that). amazing stuff

  • its kinda like motley crue covering a pink floyd song

  • This is awesome. It has a really cool refreshing summer sound to it.

  • This song's alright... and I know I'm gonna get flamed into forever for it because I too am a defender of original bands when crappy covers come about

buuuuut... I honestly think Kyuss' cover is better. I've never listened or heard of Yawning Man before, though. I'll definitely give them a chance. Just not much of a fan of the vocals. (Kyuss' cover is pretty much as truthful to this as it could possibly be)

  • @wardrich The Kyuss version is smoother so it's understandable.

  • Comment removed

  • It sort of sounds like the singer is yawning. lol. Oh the irony. Great song though.

  • kyuss brought me here... thank you kyuss

  • Hey do you guys know what are the actual lyrics for the chorus. Every website write "no it does'nt take your" as the first sentence but i don't hear it in the song. Can somebody help me ?

  • THE GODFATHERS.

  • rock formations is a must have album. so trippy, so righteous.

  • Kyuss' version is better...

  • @sicknessguitar87 hell yeah

  • @sicknessguitar87 Well, nothing can sound better than the original because, well, it's what defines the song. Kyuss' version sounded more polished and everything sounded so much better. I think it's 'cause they had a larger budget to hire a better producer/studios

  • what album is this song on, because i cant find it in the rock formations track list

  • yawning man with vocals is meh

  • They should re-record it keeping every single sound in its place. What a fuckin' gem!

  • Anyone know where I can listen to this in good quality? Kyuss' Catamaran is my favourite song friggin ever, and I want to listen to the original as it was meant to be listened to.

  • sau geil

  • Original sounds better than the cover, though u couldn't imagine when u hear kyuss' version first

  • what albums this from?

  • @NerfHerderD17 Is a from a 80s demo...."The Birth of Sol"...

  • those riffs.,.....

  • @thepatrickcsheehy Calm down dude, for fuck sake, we know this, that's what everyone was saying already, that's what it says in the description.

  • YOU FUCKING IDIOTS!!! THIS IS A MARIO LALLI SONG!!!! THIS IS A YAWNING MAN SONG THAT KYUSS COVERED. KYUSS COVERED IT, THEY DID NOT WRITE IT!!!

  • @thepatrickcsheehy lol, moron

  • @PietRock85 - Good for you "Piet" or is it "Mr. 85"? and you should keep laughing out loud because your channel deserves a couple chuckles too!

  • @PietRock85 never, ever call someone a moron if before so u say 'lol'

  • Imagine if you had the masters of this and of the Kyuss version.

You could use the guitar and bass from this, and John's vocals and Fredo's drumming from the Kyuss version and make literally the greatest song ever.

  • Mario Lalli still being awesome , he made Across The River band with Reeder and Hernandez in 1986, and formed Yawning Man later, but they signed only several years later. Fucking Discographics...

  • @desertblitzkrieg he kicks ass..! I hope he will release some stuff from Across The River

  • @nemouk So the original tape has been released onto cd The Birth Of Sol Music? Coooool! All cleaned up I imagine?

Thanks for getting back to me. =O)

  • There's a tape with most of the old Yawning Man stuff on it, including the band talking about buying their own club... it awesome shit, and I was told to guard it with my life!!

    =O)

  • wow I thought that's original Kyuss song... actually that's my favourite song by them/yawning man

  • I think this is the original version. Kyuss did a cover of it I beleive. Fredo was in this band, they were before kyuss, pretty rad!

  • this is on an old gullwing skate video....."gullwing inside out"....have the video, wish they would release a cd of all the track on it....was one of my favourite things to listen to....had it on tape, but there were constant skateboard sounds that drowned out the music at various points....

  • has anyone got a better recording of this, i prefer it to the kyuss version

  • the music of this version is better, but john vocals fits more.

  • "it's a shame most people don't know kyuss... "

yeah, it's a shame most people don't know YAWNING MAN!

  • if someone could send me this id be eternally gratetful. amazing song and i cant find it anywhere

  • this song is fantastic. i heard the kyuss cover first and i love both versions. the kyuss is clearer and an individual twist, where as here you have the original and it sounds more ethereal

  • Damn, thats a tight bass-line. Love it

  • this is a totally different song from the one kyuss played, they obviously changed it a bit since kyuss covered it

i dont think the two can be compared anymore

  • @jacksonthrasher just like i shot the sheriff or watch tower by WHO?

  • i like kyuss' version way bettter

  • @sudofan I used to ... listened to this a few more times, i love it more now.

  • birth of sol

  • I think this vers would own Kyuss' in the ass had they rerecorded it in super high quality. Just sounds so much more sabbathish :))

  • if u like yawning man, listen to Ten East

    i love it

  • @skaban your right that's truly good

  • everyone, get this album! Yawning Man - Rock Formations! It's awesome...these guys are great, the inspiration for kyuss, absolutely

  • was Alfredo the drummer of yawning man? i now he was the drummer in loads of desert rock bands like across the river and kyuss.

  • @peterchilds1 - Yes, Fredo drums for Yawning Man, he also drummed for Kyuss, QotSA, and a few other bands

  • i first listened to the kyuss version and i loved it but the more i listen to this one i feel that this is how it should really be played.

  • from a kyuss fan

  • @patronRV5 come on man, thats a fucking terrible comparison...kyuss is THE shit...motley crue is shit

  • you mean the quality?

  • My gods this version is probably even more psychedelic than the one from Kyuss. And that is unlikely to be possible, brother. With this, you got to wander under the chemical skies

  • @JussiKuutamo Yea brother, i just wish the sound quality was better in these vids. )=

  • wow, never heard of these guys before.

Too bad the sound quality isn't better.

  • this is badly recorded, the drums are too loud snd all the place ! but still, its impossible to match garcia's vocals and josh guitar making :)

  • It's a demo.

  • OMFG! there is no garcia or homme! its a complete different band! recorded in the 80´s !

  • Kyuss played it better. =)

  • Its the most creative song kyuss ever did and its not even theirs.Vato76...I bet your a white guy posing as a mexican,or worse a mexican who cant speak spanish

  • One inch Man was a good song...but yeah ur right about it being one of their most creative songs...ur funny!

  • agreed, Kyuss does everything better than a lot of bands.

  • Who Motley Crue?oh kyuss......Um???

  • to be honest, i think this is better. no hating though

  • ooohh yeeahhh awsoome ! ....yeah....yeah...

    gigiri...

    xD

  • one of my favourite songs of all time i love the kyuss version and like these guys original its such a good song that would be impossible to fuck it up ...they have some great songs its a shame this song isint better produced by the band its only ever been a demo by them

  • love this song... is there anywhere a version with a better sound?

  • No this is how it sounds on the album, it is off the first original demo album called Parable Circus.

    Amazing band

  • who made the original? i thought it was Kyuss lol

  • this is the original song

  • ok thank you.

  • Kyuss is like smoke a big fat join and dancin'. I can't find the record that has this awesome song, specially it surprises me because I thought Yawning Man was only instrumental. Great song.

  • This is one off the best Hippi songs Of all times ."You Can Take to Good , yeah Baby . CHeers to DopEsteban(AKA Skaban) jaja .

  • Kyuss did a friggin good job! and dude its a cover its not supposed to be exactly the same. And plus going from experience. I heard the kyuss version first, then the Yawning Man version and i totally thought Kyuss did it better......just my opinion though...deal with it. ^_^

  • Kyuss version is way above. Up in the stratosphere. I guess one of the few cases when the Cover surpasses the originally by far!

Kyuss version takes me to another world and that too with no substance! AWESOME!

  • Your're soooo right...agreed

  • Hä?!

  • kyuss did alright,Nothing close to Yawning Man.Saw both bands in the 80s

Kyuss was like motley crue and yawning man was pink floyd.

  • it looks like you have no clue what you are talking about man. too much dope?

  • Yea your right,Kyuss was more like Def Leppard and Yawning Man was more like the Grateful Dead.

  • I mean I respect your opinion bro, but it's just wrong to compare Kyuss to Def Leppard.

  • Kyuss and Def Leppard. Dude, stop kidding around! lol

  • Funny comparison

  • @patronRV5 And who cares exactly?

  • Kyuss formed in like 1989...

  • Cinderalla?maybe some Poison thrown in with Ratt?

    and 1989???and so....

  • Just awesome (though Kyuss did a great job at covering this). Too bad you can't find a good recording of it.

  • iTunes?

  • Nope, it's the same recording there imho. :-/

  • fuck me! I'm gonna check em out right now!!

  • this song live much intensiv.thanxalex

  • Comment removed

  • original stonerr, nice sound, fantastic

    -- greetz from germany

  • yeah, as much as i like yawning man (alot), i reckon the kyuss version is better, its more chilled out & they way he sings it adds more to the feeling, especially when your baked!

  • hell yeah man! I LOVED GETTING STONED TO THIS SONG!

  • thumbs up!

  • awsome but kyuss version is much better in my opinion anyway.

  • only cause the kyuss version is recorded better and as far as i know this aint the proper version that heavy bit and the lyrics aint ment to be there as far as i know im not 100 per cent on it only about 75 per cent

  • i love kyuss, but this is the only version of the song i can listen to now, it just takes you there

  • What album is this from??? I'd love to hear the full audio version....

  • Check out itunes....."the birth of sol" by Yawning man. They are demos....but they fuckin' ROCK !!!

  • The Kyuss version is better... its so epic

  • coversongs are never better... but the kyuss version is really good! no doubt

  • seriously , cover songs are never better. Nobody rocks it like Mario rocks it!

  • not even close how much you suck

  • Seriously, if he's into Yawning man, how can he not like Kyuss!?!?!

  • sounds lik jimi on the pretty stuff

  • Yawning Mans version is the best. Especially if you saw the play it live in friends living rooms in Palm Springs in 85' -87...oh the great days of music.

  • 85-87... the great days of music? hmmm....

  • The American underground scene was great throughout about '79-'89. Obviously, the mainstream was largely shite, as ever.

  • I Personally prefer the kyuss version but they are both great

  • I like how John sings the Kyuss version better, but I actually think overall this is cooler.

  • I've been listening to this and Kyuss' version over and over.. and I have to say that although John sings it better, this version is still more beautiful.

  • Oh my, what an awesome song. Would give much for this in decent quality!

  • Man!!!! the sound ads to the vibe! We should all take this tune for what it is without wanting a pollished up version! I'm not being a dick by the way man!

  • Well yeah, I guess you have a point.. Makes it all a bit more mysterious!

  • Fully agree. Adds to the focus.

  • GUYS! WHO HAS A LOSSLESS OR AT LEAST DECENT COPY OF THIS SONG TO SHARE???

If anyone has an original copy RIP IT PLEASE!!!

I got loads of goodies to exange too, but I need this one!!!!

    thanx

peace, jim beam, chronic & black sabbath

  • It was up on there my space once over.

  • It may still be on the myspace but in terms of sound quality this is it fellas. I guess the recording came from an old cassette demo they had and apparently thats all that exists from what I gather.

  • well guys s if this is impossible to buy, we need a lucky owner of this demo tape or cd w/e to make a .wav copy go round the net. really need this!

  • Just passing through...heard Masters of Reality is coming out with a new album, was doing some surfing, and came across this band. I'm from the Midwest and in case you have never heard of them...check out HUM sometime. Pretty cool music when you're getting your head right.

  • wow, im an absolute kyuss fan, and I understand why Yawning man was so influential to them!

but the quality is absolute shit. Is there a CD or LP version of this song available round?

  • 2008 album vista point but quite hard to get hold of

  • unfortunately this was only on a demo tape or something else.. wasnt sold, only give away to friends of the band ive heard...

  • ahhhhhhhh, horrible! makes it even more mystic. thts why we need one of those lucky bastards to rip it for us! hehe

  • I love kyuss but to be honest I think I prefer this version better, I have some desert sessions songs uploaded for anyone whos interested

  • you know whats funny "catamaran" is similar to the filipino word "katamaran" meaning lazyness lol

  • for desert rock, this is definetly a first.

  • I preferer the kyuss version.. I discovered now that the kyuss one is a cover, and now this song sounds a bit strange to me. However it's a beautiful song.

  • i like this original better than kyuss cover... more sabbath and hendrix... less sweetness ....

  • exactly

  • Glad I heard this it was cool At first at didnt like it, cause the melody is better in Kyuss version for the verse, but the chorus of this is excellent, i like his vocal. Is that Mario Lalli singing?

  • yeah it sounds like Mario. And i agree on that melody thing, John actually sings in the Kyuss version. Mario's badass tough

  • Fucking awesome>>>>

  • kyuss +1

  • this is cool sounds kinda late hendrix style. i think i like the kyuss one more, but only coz i heard it first and thats always the way i find. still, i applaud these guys for such a great song, not kyuss, whom i like very much anyway.

  • good song to get baked to

  • Its nice to hear the original finally.

And it is really good, i think i prefer the Kyuss cover though.

  • i prefer the guitar effect in this version

  • This song is 100%-Kyussish, as it was made for be covered by them.

  • Damn, you are the fool. I ment because of the sound of this song it was perfect to be covered by Kyuss, not that it was written for them!

  • does any1 know where i can download this track,

  • yep, im addicted to this song, this song is something seriously fuckin slick, this is the shit, i've found the shit...vintage stoner rock...

  • I've uploaded some yawning man tracks if anyones interested, and one of my own tracks :) check out my myspace

  • did kyuss cover this song??

  • Where has good music gone? so depressing

  • wow...man, the first time iv ever heard heard this song and fuck is it good, fucking slick.

  • who wrote it??

  • gary arce, mario lalli...legends

  • Mario Lalli is a genius. Great guitar work and song writing in all his projects.

  • Yawning Man owns. I heard this'll be on the compilation album that's supposed to be coming out soon.

  • to little bass and to much cymbals

  • great song by these guys or Kyuss...doesn't matter!

  • ive been wanting to this original version for so long, its fucking great.

  • hear*

  • Good song. I like the kyuss version more though.

  • wonderous place it takes you....
