Looks to me that he got hung up on penhall and went down but thats not penhalls fault shit happens in racing especially when your neck and neck besides he was behind penhall and trying to come around him so he should be the one paying attention to clearing the outside to come around...... *NO PUSSIES ALLOWED IN RACING* #9
@chebss IF thats true and I mean "IF" then the ref would have been wrong. This is not baseball. Ref or no ref we all can see. Can you? Or was that simply a statement from you?
Ha ha . I'm from costa Mesa ca. I've seen Bruce Oenhall race many times at the O.C. Fairgrounds , and I'm an avid fan of the guy . The poor Brit ' o mr referee he 'bruce ' did this n that bla bla bla . He flat out jus beat ya , you crybaby ! .. Anything said , if you really know the true sport of speedway is frankly a bunch of , as the Brits might say 'quite a bit of rubbish ! '. Go Bruce ! :-)
When a rider sees a loss is coming, many look for a way to cause a restart, like crashing. But, if you are not allowed to be on the line for the restart, then it is of no help, and is poor sportsmanship. Close racing can cause the front wheel, or the leg to go away, causing a spill. It is also a danger to the racers. But, racing is not safe. Good racing is close, not spread out. I think Carter has no place to complain. I've seen him cause plenty of crashes!
Just a racing accident, probably driven by Carter's mounting frustration. Just read Carter's biography and apparently Ivan Mauger wanted Kenny to use Carlisle tyres, the same as everyone esle. These provided much more grip and drive. Carter's Dad, who he was terrified of, told him to use Dunlops as he didn't trust American tyres. If he had been on Carlisle's, this incident wouldn't have happened ... Carter would have been 30 yards ahead. Those Dunlops cost him 10 yards a lap.
bruce was the champ for same reason kenny was not .. He had the nerve ,the skills ,the equiptment, it made no difference that he was in USA kenny fell all by himself, he was a child with nooooooo chance
Looking back, I think Kenny dropped it a bit easily and gave the ref the easy option to exclude him.
I feel most for Peter and Les Collins though. Peter was riding the race of his season to help Les win the World Championship, after Les had brilliantly beaten Penhall fair and square earlier in the meeting.
Thats just racing.Penhall was going past kenny. kenny was in the wrong at the wrong time.If kenny was going faster then Penhall wouldnt have had a half bike him and he wouldnt have fell.Kenny simply ran out of track. PENHALL <----world champion for a reason.
You can find a super slow of this accident on YouTube also and there you can clearly see that Bruce never touched Kenny's bike and besides Bruce are leading Kenny at the point of the accident and Kenny still has space to move out, so it can never be Penhall's fault.
penhall did the same at white city to kenny and being outside the usa, penhall got excluded.glad he left the sport me and all my friends didnt miss him, bloody bimbo.
We had Bruce Penhall on our Haunted Saloon LiveTV show on August 21, 2007. Watch the clip on our page where Bruce talks about this race, he didn't touch Kenny Carter.
OK that is what he says now, but on the night just after the race, HE said he did not know he was there he FELT some thing looked back and it was kenny, (i have got it on a old video). So at some point he told a porky? but that said kenny in the same position? yer, he do the same,GOD I MISS THE SHAY
Actually he never. You can't really see it on this quality of picture, but f you get to see a decent shot of it you can see that when Penhall's wheel flickes outwards it takes away Carter's handlebars and knocks him off.
@viaclin64 - Of course the referee would not exclude Penhall. After all, the final was in America and Penhall was going to be the "Big" film star after the Final. An injustice to Carter. Penhall never did make anything of his acting anyway.
brings back memories of when he used to race for cradley heathens just down the road from where i live now, shame they are building houses now on the track in dudley wood
Too cool! I was at the L.A. Colliseum to see that world final! I took gobs of photographs of the race, including Carter's temper tantrum at the starting line after that heat. There was almost a fist fight, too cool!! It was an honor to watch Bruce Penhall during that era, I saw him win the US title at Costa Mesa too . . .

Both riders should've been thrown out but Penhall was never going to be excluded in front of his own fans!
