i thank you for the relentless showcases of the new york art scene for people living far away from the city.
i am interested in knowing if is it even possible for a black artist to make art without focusing on the racism issue exclusively for people of heir color? maybe the sadomasochistic nature is also embedded into the people contribute to the racism as walker might imply?
@popeyeisgood i was going to say mark bradford? but then i thought... no his "abstracts are maps about the divide of class across a city. i've been immersed in black culture (once produced a show called "ghetto mission" that interviewed drug dealers and car thieves in the ghetto.)... generally, black people are extremely race aware. it memetically preceeds their thought process. so if that artsist is being "true to one's self"... then you are going to get race based art.
even though james little is far from being my favorite artist but i gotta admit that i appreciate the lack of consciousness of his own color while being an artist.
Thank you so much for uploading this! Hopefully I'll be able to make my way down to the city before this closes. With this show, and her last one, Kara Walker has disproved people's criticism that she is a one-trick-pony; on the contrary, she can do it all. And she can do it all incredibly well.
Did you ever find out who the man with the Einstein hair and yellow tie is, as you are walking in at the Chelsea location? I have seen him in many of your videos and always wondered who he is. I thought critic/writer?? Thanks Mr. Kalm. This was especially good.
@kali999L Of course I've met the "Einstein Hair Guy" and talked with him over the decades, he's a New York art world regular. But he prefers to remain anonymous, and to my knowledge is not a writer or critic.
thanks james! awesome show. political/social work can come off as preaching too much... but walker has such an unmolested unpretentious hand. every piece is perfect.
Yawn... Same ole same ole. Walker indeed is a one trick pony. James Little on the other hand is awesome!

"The South should have picked it's own cotton" - this is what I see in this work.

@jameskalm thanks. Certain people stand out in your videos and he was a mystery and still one it seems.
