The level design is bland and looks like it comes from the free-roaming games. All elements of platforming from Castlevania are pretty much gone due to lolflying.

At least it's well-designed and has nice music. Boss battles look decent as well.

I absolutely love the graphics and the music, everything about this. Although I do firmly believe Touhou is being milked so much that the cow is literally dead of old age, but this is by far their best game so far. I'd most definitely play this one.

While the animation and 2D graphics look nice... I don't really like the idea of flying in a Castlevania style game. It just takes away from the platforming elements. And I really hope all boss fights are gonna just be all projectile barrages like that.

I've played CV games since the beginning back when they were very platform heavy with pitfalls and stuff, until SOTN came along and broke the trend. But in SOTN, you didn't get abilities like flying until later on, and even then, you had to go back and explore previous areas to find new paths. Plus flying was limited in SOTN, you had very weak attacks while flying and it drained your mana rapidly.

So I dunno, seems like the platforming in this game will be Kirby level or so.

This is a platformer plus shoot 'em up. The bullet patterns are not unlike those from danmaku like Cave games, but with smaller bullet count.

I'll grab it so I can judge how it works.

Here in Koumajou, flight has limitations. Player has limited fire. Once depleted, you can't attack while flying. You can't change the direction you are facing unless you land. And there's inertia. So player does feel as in a platformer, not like a weird shmup. The blend of styles is more prominent in the boss battle, but it's better to dodge by walking and ducking.

I'm kinda rusty in platformers, so sometimes the attacks felt cheap, but with practice, it will all go rather easy. With progression of hardness throughout the game, this one will surely be a must-have.
