  • en musique ont à dut travailler sur cette pub lol elle est trop marrante!!^^

  • It's funny that I have both versions in my record collection. Before and after I got my hands on it.

  • @sonsandsons Very interesting story, I didn't know that. So I guess the folks from 808 state were the true inspiration for the classic sped-up version of the song, which most people seem to prefer. I can understand the band not liking it that someone else 'touched' their work, but it just sounds very good. Anyway, good job. In my opinion, this ad is the coolest of the Levi ads of the 90s and the music plays a big part.

  • Vaughn heard this, thought there might be something in it and sent a copy of the original 12inch down to me in London. I played around for a weekend repitching it on the NED Synclavier system until we found the right speed for us and the cut. The rest is history. We sent it to the band, they hated it but the record company realised there was money to be made. They took my elements and combined it with the Original which was re-released. more.....

  • Well, I don't know when he remixed the track, but it would have been way after we made the commercial. The story is an interesting one. I originally had Prodigy "Out of Space" sunk to this spot but Vaughn Arnell, the Director, wasn't sure about it. He was in Manchester when he heard a radio spot by 808 state who were reviewing new releases, they played Babylon Zoo but didn't like the grungy aspect of it and as a joke sped it up from 33rpm to 45rpm. more......

  • Just to put the record straight. I sped up the track. My name is Warren Hamilton, I work in commercials at Wave Studios. At the time I was a sound designer at The Tape Gallery. Babylon Zoo hated it but money talks.

  • @sonsandsons So what about the remix by DJ Arthur Baker?

  • The rowdy young 'bit' does her dad's head in - top skenarism - new word from 'then' . !!!!

  • What's with all the random bollocks in the comments?

that Spaceman track was HUGE until the guy behind Babylon Zoo ruined the track by slowing it down and having his weird ramblings on it.....if the whole track was similar to what's on this clip it would have been SO much bigger :)

  • @simcut To be fair, Babylon Zoo did not slow down the track, it was actually sped up by a DJ in a remix of the song. The slow version is the original.

  • @oonai5000 Nah, the original has the bit in this track and then it slows down, I should know I bought it on CD Single and was proper pissed off!

btw, the backing of this track sounds like Blue Boy - Remember Me, a bit.

  • @simcut No really, the original song does not have the sped up bits at the beginning and the end. This was done in a remix by DJ Arthur Baker. This remix was released as a single and became a hit in many countries.

  • @oonai5000 fuck knows what I have on CD Single then ._. :)

  • @simcut Probably the remix by Arthur Baker, like most people. Also the Macarena became only a worldwide hit as a remix by the Bayside Boys.

  • @oonai5000 I have the 12 inch as well, I had it since it was released.I even remember the story behind the 12 inch single when it came out. Arthur baker wanted to put a mix with Jass Manns voice speeded up on the 12 inch but Jass Mann said he did not want his voice speeded up on a longer version. But the company pulled a sly one, by releasing a 12 inch with contained one track with the music slowed down, knowing everyone would just play it at 45. It is called Arthur meets the space man.

  • @simcut First of all I do remember seeing a TV programme all those years ago, that no one was interested in this song until Arthur Baker got a hold of it and speeded it up and mixed it...and viola...it was used in this advert, and people wanted this song when it was released, but unfortunately there was a lot of disappointed people when people found out that the whole song did not sound anything like this, only the beginning and the end. Arthur Baker was responsible for the fast part.

  • Wow! How influential was this advert? People still have their homes decorated in a similar fashion to the one in the ad - organic forms, open and airy, lots of silver; okay it's going by the board nowadays but - yeah.

The 90's ruled for certain - I remember people were more forward-looking and optimistic and there was a real sense of fun at that time.

And the dad's not perving his daughter, he's comically taken aback by her appearance = funny! A very witty and very sexy ad.

  • I remember watching two versions of this commercial. One in the earth (everybody laughs at a nerd boy with a twist when it appears his astonishing alien girlfriend) and the other is this one, in the girl's planet. Anyone knows where I can find the earth one?

  • what version of the song is this coz its not the original.......

  • @doctorducky15 I don't know what you mean, this is original version by Babylon Zoo.

  • Truly great advertising. We all remember it, and fondly.

  • hahaha i remember i saw this when i was child and i liked the music behind (i still!!) good memories♥

  • They don't make 'em like this anymore :(

I can't wait till other world colonisation is possible :D

  • I want one of those sphere fireplaces. It's awesome! Still looks ultra modern 15 years on!

  • why can't we live on the moon?

  • your still on earth?

  • yeah I'm on Earth still : [

  • well, the mid nineties... the whole world got a little confused on values back then, and not only in advertising :)

good for Spaceman, although I wouldn't say it was a really brilliant piece of music. but I admit it was a bit better than All That She Wants or Macarena.

  • What do you mean about values? She's a hot chick: people stare..

  • I think you are completely wrong. Back in the 90s things were actually quite good. There was a lot of creativity, and values were firmly in place. And this happens to be a very good one-hit-wonder pop-song (and not manufactured either). You say the 'whole world got a little confused on values back then' - you need to open your eyes to how things now are, my friend. Back then, things were in their right place.

  • @jaysenr14 damn youre right!!!

  • @jaysenr14 I'd certainly say are values are distorted today but the cause was the same back then, money. Hopefully access to new information will adapt peoples values so we can begin to phase out money.

    thezeitgeistmovement

  • @morgs2020 It's true that money has always distorted society. But things have completely gotten out of hand now. It's never been the state it currently is. Capitalism is no longer failing, it's failed.

And I don't think it'll get any better. I mean, the bankers have recently f*cked up the whole social system, and look who's suffering!! Are they? No. And what are regular people's reactions to this - they just sit on their arses watching TV or moaning about the latest football/sports results.

  • @jaysenr14 Agreed the longer we have money the more damaging the cumulative effects. You can't blame most people for not doing anything about it though as they aren't aware of an alternative. It will take time to transition peoples ideas to form a society not based on the price system

  • @morgs2020 I agree that they aren't aware of an alternative. But their lack of anger at the situation shocks me. As it would do any living breathing being with a brain. They vent more anger and passion at useless things like who should win X-Factor, instead of looking at their own situation and the world around them. But then, they've basically been 'bred' to think that way, which is sad.

I admire your optimism, but I unfortunately don't share it.

  • @jaysenr14 I'm optimistic in the long run things will get dramatically better but we've got sum wakeup slaps in the short term. The price system holds back everyone, including the billionaires. Bankers aren't to blame either they are product of the price system they have never known anything else.

    thezeitgeistmovement

  • @morgs2020 What you've got to realise - those that are rich, the millionaires/billionaires you speak of, are not the ones suffering for the debt to the economy; everyone else is. It should be about everyone pulling together, not just the poor.

And I disagree that bankers aren't to blame. You are right about the 'price system' but that's no reason to be a product of it. They were greedy, they gave a damn about nothing but themselves, and then they fucked up. And look who's suffering for it.

  • @jaysenr14 Agreed those poorest suffer the most. I say billionaires are held back by the price system because no matter how much money you have you can never get access to the best that's possible. The price system stifles progress. And they aren't to blame because like you said they have been 'bred' to think that way.

  • @morgs2020 I'm not sure about that. From what I've experienced, billionaires get all the previleges first, above those without money, regardless of ability/talent. That's the way of the world under capitalism. The reason why our society is so full of crap now. Only those with lots of money get the opportunities.

I think they are still to blame, as they have a responsibility. If an adult doesn't know right from wrong, then what hope is there? The system may be wrong, but you have a choice.

  • @jaysenr14 I don't believe in free choice we make decisions based on the information we have and if we don't have relevant information we make poor decisions. That's why politicians are useless because no matter how companionate they are they just don't have the tools to solve problems.

Values have to be reinforced you can't tell someone not to steal and then reward those who do.

  • @morgs2020 I think this is true and false. We do make decisions on information we have, but at the same time there is a natural occurence to know right from wrong. The bankers didn't have that - greed; thinking they are above the law. This whole business/corporate growth - it's destroyed everything. What the bankers did, they knew they were wrong. The difference is they didn't give a damn. And they thought they'd get away with it. And guess what, they have!

  • @jaysenr14 They are just as stupid as any other human. We only know what we have experienced. They have adapted in the only way they know how. Greed is a byproduct of scarcity it's a response to fear. Greed could be phased out if technology was applied to create an abundance for everyone on the planet.

    thezeitgeistmovement

  • @morgs2020 Greed, in my opinion, is a response to a lack of morals, and the reality of capitalism gone wrong.

The only way greed could be phased out is if money wasn't so relevant. The individual quality of a human being should be seen as 'more'. As it once was. But that has been eradicated.

And don't get me started on technology!

But yeah, it's great to envisage a world where 'an abundance is created for everyone'. But I wouldn't bet my life on that happening any time soon.

  • @jaysenr14 I wouldn't say capitalism has gone wrong it's just outdated. Most labor could be replaced with automation today so it no longer relevant. We have the technology to create an abundance today but like you said who knows when are ideologies will catch up. Even if it's not in our lifetime I still think it's worth working towards.

  • @morgs2020 I don't think capitalism is outdated at all. The basic principals of capitalism, much like communism, are fine. It's just the greed and immorality of humans have ensured it will not work - those who feel they should have more and more, and others less and less. And it took a long time, but capitalism has now failed. Yet we all continue to live under it, because we don't know what to do, or have the courage or general interest to make a difference.

  • @jaysenr14 The worse things get the though the more pressure their is for people to question their elected leaders and be open to different ideas. For example the zeitgeist movement has a lot more publicity in Greece as the social pressures mount. The most vital key to change is a free internet.

    thezeitgeistmovement

  • @morgs2020 What you say here is true - the worse things get, the more people question their leader. But I'm from England, and this country has just got rid of one idiot and elected another to take his sit. And the thing is, they didn't have a choice - there was no alternative.

Greece is a very different example, as it is not a 'world power country'. What has happened in Greece is an example of capitalism going wrong. The UK has a similar debt problem, but we have the power to borrow money.

  • @morgs2020 And of course, the poor are being made to pay, whilst the rich are being allowed to get away with it, because they are rich and have the privilege to do so. And then the media and the government conceal this fact.

I'd love to see some sort of zeitgeist movement in England, but I just don't see it happening. The only 'movement' here is bowel movement from alcohol abuse and bad dieting.

  • @jaysenr14 The zeitgeist movement is global. It's the only way it can work. It's bigger in the UK than the US. Their are also transition towns. As the UK doesn't produce any goods a collapse in it's financial sector could be worse than in Greece.

  • @mihaicoliban LOLZ @ THAT COMMENT.

  • Actually, you are wrong. This was one of the best commercial of that year. And after this, Babylon Zoo went straight to number 1 on the UK singles chart in 1996
