I agree with you that this is the best version of this song ( the same goes for her version of When You Walk In The Room ). Both songs send a chill through you just to listen to it. Her vocals are spot on and the emotion shines through as well. And thanks for your channel. It helps in bringing to light a vastly underrated artist of the 60s.
once agian "the searchers,"out did jackie with their version of this song same as they did on "when you walk in the room". she is a great writer and performer I love watching however.easy on the eyes too!
@SingDude simple facts are the searchers had hits with both songs while jackies versions went nowhere.maybe it was due to the fact the british invasion was in full swing and could do no wrong.but whatever it was those are the facts.
@TheBabyboomkidof53 We can disagree about whose versions are better, no problem with me. Both of Jackie's singles charted, and Needles and Pins even went to #1 in Canada! To me, she's the original and still the best :)
@SingDude understood,I'm just very careful with " history revisionists" ( I'm not saying your one),who often want to rewrite it to reflect what they " wish" it had been. I like jackie's version of 'when you walk in the room', dont care much for her "needles and pins" however. when I think of songs I think of how I first heard them and by who.it was the "searchers" in both cases.
HELLO EVERYBODY the hope of one is my hope of hope itself =) maybe you'd like to help a little fighter I’m trying to be a singer like million else But I am different I promise that... if u give me a chance i'll show u I am 17 years old and dream to have listeners of all ages love the thing I do.. please stop by my channel and check out my cover anyone who reads this could just press the "THUMBS UP" other people will see it. Thanks For Helping Make My Dreams Come True !!! :)))))) Lots of love XD
if the searchers are so great, please tell me of a song originally done by the searchers?they were copy cats.at least the stones and the beatles sang some of their own music.also, the searchers lack the feeling that ms.jackie de shannon put all of her soul and voice into it.get real.
@MrEdgarjuan If you want one written by the group and not just performed by them first, these are from the albums I have: Little Bit of Heaven, Till I Met you, I'm Your Loving Man, He's Got No Love, You Can't Lie To a Liar, Don't You Know Why, So Far Away, Don't Hang On, This Kind of Love Affair, and Come on Back To Me. I don't have most of their albums, though and most of what I do have is from after Chris Curtis, their main songwriter, left.
Jackie does this casual performance, yet almost unknowingly creates this timeless masterpiece. Very sophisticated musically, very artistic. You won't forget it, and no one else can approach it.
To me, who also loves British Invasion era, Jackie's version of this classic is unmatched for strength and passion, in spite of its portrayal on this goofy video. I like it even better than Tom Petty's great version.
'Goofy' doesn't mean I don't like the vid. It's absolutely classic.

Always liked Jackie's version better than the Searchers', which I find corny and painfully English. Love Jackie's southern lilt, and I hate their putzy Liverpudlian pronounciation: "pinzaaah"
A recentl article revealed Jackie DID in fact take part in the writing, which doesn't surprise me. It uses her favorite I-vi-IV-V progression, except the somewhat odd bridge, which was probably Jack Nietzche's big contribution. I'm guessing the melody is Jackie's and the lyrics are Bono's.

She's so lighthearted here, unaware she's doing one of the best rock 'n roll songs of all time. What a sexy raspy voice!

The Hard Times did a nice version of "I Can Make it With You" which Jackie also recorded.

Its a great song and a great performance

@Lockemeister Sonny Bono and Jack Nitzsche wrote the song, but lately it's been said that Jackie also contributed a bit.
DeShannoninmyheart 11 months ago
@Lockemeister he co wrote this and the searchers sold more records then anyone else.i think they did the best job.
