exelente músico ejecutante e increíble la inspiración de Kodaly en este movimiento, donde se destaca una habilidad instrumental excepcional, con un manejo técnico pocas veces visto antes. Felicitaciones al autor y su intérprete!!!!
all the technical resources of the instrument are explored with an unexpected efficacy in this work, so fascinating as complex from the score´s point of view
@kristin1ashley its not so much control as it is a release. ive been studying with one of starkers former students, its amazing how his method makes the cello so much easier to play
Its a part of the piece, the two pizzicatos are in the partiture. But he brings it like some kind of silent metronome, ticking on the background, amazing.
This version of Kodaly cello solo sonata must be the best cello performance I´ve heard in my life, and I´ve heard alot of great performance. I can´t stop listening to it! The piece, and Dr.Starker, it´s all phenominal. I can´t express myself how much I love it!
I concur. The power he has over the cello is unrivalled. The hall probably contributes, but other performers have the aid of a concert hall too...it's so enthralling. His playing reminds me of Disney movie music (not a negative thing)
I love this piece but it would be interesting to hear a multi-movement solo cello sonata with at a movement in a different key than that defined by the 'C' and 'G' strings (which are tuned to B and F# in this piece). It would be a challenge to play and write but it's entirely possible to pull off spectacularly, especially in a slow movement.
Has anyone even seen the sheet music for this movement?! Its unbelievably ridiculous. The time signatures...6+4/8 time...How to count that?

This is definitely the hardest piece for cello ever written. "I'm Starker, playing Kodaly is like playing a scale....." GREATNESS

This sonata, and this movement in particular, is one of the human race's greatest intellectual achievements.

Starker is a fantastic musician, cellist and teacher.
One of my teachers studied two years with him and she was amazed by him.
He he fantastic and is one of best kodaly recordings. :)

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Pieter Wispelwey plays this the best by far. but Mr. Starker's is still very good
