That is not Michael Stipe nor is it REM or anything to do with REM. This is the Josh Joplin Group. I used to play the heck of out of this song and others by them when I was a DJ for WHFR 89.3 FM in Detroit. I even contacted Josh once with hopes that his band would play on my show but it never materialized.

I love this song. If you want to hear how great this band, listen to their album USEFUL MUSIC. Great stuff, and this song is included on it.

I watched Josh perform this live solo acoustic on the Australian "Country Music Channel" It was the first time I heard this song and still sticks in my head. Try to track it down if you can. I can't.

Josh Joplin has many other wonderful songs out there. Look him up under Josh Joplin, Josh Joplin Band, Josh Joplin Group, and his current project - Among the Oak & Ash. The latest work is more folksy (traditiional Appalachian folk songs). The other works are closer to Camera One, but cover a wide range of rock, folk, alternative, and just plain excellent music, all in the singer-songwriter realm. And I highly recommend seeing him perform live - he's a great performer.

Yes, the 'Sandy haired son of Hollywood' Did commit suicide, but that is not what the song is about.

Think about it... "You're playing you now."

This song is more about being true to yourself as a person and making choices you can be proud of later in life.

"Sightseers see, what they want"

People who look at you will see what they want to see, so don't stress over what others think about you, make sure you can look at yourself in the mirror first.

the song is about being yourself. he talks about the scene beginning and "your playing you now" so the role is yourself. Its about finding who you are, and it talks about what might happen if you don't: (I.E regrets, suicide)
