Only "discovered" this band yesterday - I can't stop listening to their songs on here and can't remember the last time any music had such an impact on me. Incredibly moving. I've been a pro musician for 22 years and got so hardened to "ordinariness", I didn't think this would happen again for me - Thank you.
In the end, intent and meanings don't matter. It's all about cause and effect. These guys make music that resonate within people and THAT is what matters. It can mean different things to different people, as long as it MEANS SOMETHING to SOMEONE! I, for one, love this a lot.
A note to those trying to figure out the meaning: Artists themselves dont even know exactly what they mean when they create.... thats why we are so ambiguous and existential about it all the time. And even if we know...rarely does it ever fully come out..b/c then the door to negating is opened... so
Find your own meaning ; one that is special to you..art is subjective...its supposed to make you think.... thats why its ART :)
I saw them play at a benefit concert at Lupo's last night in providence, and I was completely blown away. There is so much power in their life performances that just cant be captured in a recording.
Came across this video last week on the night that they were playing a near by club. Bought the album immediately and went to see them live. Wonderful, talented group of musicians. If they don't become famous, it is through no fault of their own.
By any chance done by the same folks who made the white winter hymnal stop motion for fleet foxes? Took me back to that as soon as I saw it. Amazing video for an amazing song. 5!
I think the video is sort've making the point that Darwin's ideas have become so transformative as to be the equivalent of a massive flood, washing away the pre-existing world of thoughts, ideas, and realities.
Y'know, to me it almost seems like it's the other way round. Like how Darwin's brilliant ideas are up against this wall of water (implying pre-existing religious doctrine) which is "all around" -
"Oh My God, it's all around..."
They're almost a lament to me from the eyes of a modern day Darwin trying to rescue evolution from the craziness that surrounds it.
I think it says that when we become extinct, we will have no one to blame but ourselves. Having learned nothing from the implicit warnings of Darwin's teachings.
Sounds a bit like Hem, yeah? Love, Billy

And who could heed the words of Charlie Darwin
The lords of war just profit from decay
And trade their childrens promise for the jingle
The way we trade our hard earned time for pay

Set the sails I feel the winds astirring
Toward the bright horizon set the way
Cast your reckless dreams upon our Mayflower
Haven from the world and her decay
And who could heed the words of Charlie Darwin
Fighting for a system built to fail
Spooning water from their broken vessels
As far as I can see there is no land
Oh my god, the waters all around us
Oh my god, its all around
