  • I dug the sample of the motorcycle. ;) Sounds great man!

  • what bass envelope filter are you using and, like everyone else has established, great playing!

  • excellent playing man. great phrasing, great groove. awesome!

  • Fabulous, man! Thanks for sharing...

  • Personally I don't give a shit what you repeat. Without being too gushing, you are absolutely superb. And just to repeat, you are absolutely...

  • @hahabass haha! thanks man

  • the motorcycle was actually a nice touch. a happy accident... leads off nicely to your solo. hehehehe. awesome music as always! :)

  • Damian, I've been a big fan of yours for the last few years. You've always had a very melodic approach and your rhythmic sense in both grooving and soloing is phenomenal. Just a bit of constructive criticism I'd like to offer as a fellow bassist who's been listening for a while: some of your melodic ideas come up very frequently. For example your little half step hammer/pull ornamentation is very common, along with another little idea or two. Brilliant playing nonetheless!

  • @doug604 also, I actually spend VERY little of my gigging life soloing. It's not what I usually practice. I don't play a solo instrument (typically speaking.. like a horn player or guitarist who may be soloing on every song in a night). I spend most of my time shedding for gigs, actually...

I just solo a lot on my home-made youtube videos because I'm playing by myself. I don't actually like to solo very much in real life situations. I prefer to just play pocket all night ;)

  • @doug604 It looks like part 1 of my comment didn't make it here. I said, thanks for the kind words man! Also, I'm always trying to improve my musical vocabulary but we ALL repeat ourselves a bit. Can you think of any bassists who don't? I can only think of a very select few musicians of ANY kind who don't repeat their melodic repertoire. That said, I hope to transcend that eventually! Listen to a few Metheny solos, Jaco solos, Victor solos, Brecker. 99.5% of musicians repeat content.

  • @damianerskine Oh I'm just as guilty (probably much more) of repeating ideas... I actually made that comment because at the time I was working on using more variation in my phrasing. Of course you're right about everyone repeating content, I must just watch your videos too much ;) Thanks for taking the time to reply and continue making great music!

  • @doug604 Thanks man. Trust me, nobody os more hypercritical of my playing than I am! ;) I hope I didn't respond too defensively. Thanks for commenting and thanks for checking out the videos man!

  • That solo play sound amazing!

  • Nice, very nice.

I see the strings are bent very easily. Is this a 34″ or 35″ scale?

  • @AstAMoore 34" I also use med-light gauge nickel strings (D'Addario).. Not sure they bend more easily than others, tho

  • @damianerskine Thanks for the answer, Damian! Looks like the 34″ scale makes all the difference in this department. (My 6-string is 35″; I can get the action really low, but bending the strings is problematic.)

  • Boy, I wish I sounded that warty. :)

  • Man I LOVE the octave up sound on the micropog! I sold one, but if I get another, Im never letting it go! Great job as usual Damian! You always give me something to go work out.

  • Micro-pog rocks! Everyone seems to be more about the Boss OC-2 but I think the Micro-pog tracks better and does the same sub-harmonic stuff when the lower octave is soloed. I love that thing

  • you are my favorite bassist to listen to... no joke post some more when you have time =]

  • Nice! you always come thru with the sickness!

  • first comment!! haha....nice work man
