To all you kids questioning whether this is fusion or not:
IT IS!
The problem is that you think of fusion like only shred-fusion or maybe the early fusion stuff that sounds really weird! Fusion isnt its "own" style, its a combination of several styles, hence the term fusion. This is funk, but with a more complex chord progression than i.e. james brown, more jazzy. Thats why it says funk fusion.

@Xecuter88 yea but original definitions get changed all the time. No one thinks of R&B as rhythm and blues anymore, they think of it as soul music. So perhaps it'd be better labeled fusion of funk/blues as opposed to funk fusion like all the jazz greats
the "fusion" he's referring to is the weird turnaround where he's forced to use something other than a blues scale, and the "funk" i think is the rhythm section, his occasional use of octaves, and jamming on a b7/#9 chord
no hate you're a sick guitarist, this is a cool solo
Everybody needs to shut up. Sure this video is mostly blues pentatonic scales, but there IS fusion, some of the licks and scales he is using are by both definition and sound FUSION. So shut up. Please.
hey kid your titles are misleading...be careful how you name your stuff. One clicks expecting something decent and your stuff comes up. Its just taking space.
jwwetzel, robert johnsons not the only blues player, eric clapton is a blues player and even covers robert johnson, but there styles are still totaly difrent, i hear a bit of fusion, but its mostly blues, and its good too
Fusion takes many forms Jazz/Rock or Blues/Rosk Fusion this is a bit of both but closer to the Larry Carlton/ Kazumi Watanabe , Steely Dan type of Fusion.
dont get me wrong.. u play really good bro, and have read the coments.. it is blues.. thers is classic blues like Bessie Smith, contry blues like ROBERT JOHNSON.. yeah.. but thers also Rocking Blues.. havent you hear Steavie Ray Vaughn? thats blues also man.. Jazz comes from Blues and Ragtime.. so thers Jazz really bluesy.. also fusion is not only funk/jazz, but rock/jazz how bout a rocking blues/jazz.. lol
I agree with the guys , you got the fusion SOUND , and the groove , but NOT the NOTES .sorry
..advice from an old man , maybe you should learn , fusion licks , on ....youtube ...you could easily find millions of them
last advice ...The queen scale of fusion , is the mélodic minor ...find it ...and play it first ,cose most of the minor fusion licks are built with this scale ...the goal is near ...work with your mind too ..listen to Frank Gambale , Scott Henderson , Allan Holdsworth ..etc.
Are you playing in a band in the area? If you are still in Iowa, that area could use some better music. Also anyone who has the time, PLEASE CHECK OUT my uploads for my own improvisation jamming (of a similar vein). Also, I really dug 1:20-1:29.
Good job man. I enjoyed it and its definitely way better than most stuff up on youtube for sure! Ignore the haters out there because most people are just very generic and they are jealous of any success or talent anyone displays. I mean jeez people, it's just a youtube upload you put on! It's not like it's an album version or something! And if you look at most of the negative comments, those people if they have clips up they almost always SUCK big time, so just keep working on it!
your a good player, but you need to stop responding to critics, you come off as smug. its a shame too because you have a fair amount of talent. i'd say more but i know you'd just respond to it ha
@nezmaster1 all you have to do is remove the raised 4th from the Blues scale and you get the Minor Pent... I'm sure your music class tought you the Minor Pentatonic is one of if not the most used scales in all of "western" music. Then I'm sure you can connect the dots why every genre from jazz to deathmetal takes a few licks and tricks from blues and recycles them!!!
You sir should ask for a refund on that education of yours!!! There is no 1 single note that is a "Blues Note". There is a blues scale but it has more than 1 note. And it's simply the Minor Pentatonic scale with a raised forth added to it.
nice bro! the thing is... im pretty familiar with THE fusion genre... when you hear the pentatonic is almost blues for me.. there's barely any fusion licks there bro.. but dude.. you aint stupid man.. we all learn still... so good job! hope we can jam sometime through videos! LOL haha! good work bro!

@jwwetzel@jwwetzel I'm actually a lot more aware of blues progressions than you are. I'm a music student and just finished a project working with 12 bar blues AND modulations. It's actually called the Larry Carlton Jam track. Owned.

little advice that may help you in becoming a better guitarist.
dont stick in the same position the entire time.you bought that entire guitar, use the entire neck.
dont jump back and forth from the top of the neck to the bottom.connect the licks and turn them into lines.
also gradually speed up,start off slow then start throwing down harder and faster
it sounds like musical masturbation when you start off tossing 8th note triplets right out of the gate, dont throw your best licks out first.
jakesimmons815 1 year ago
basics
ii-V-I is a modern jazz progression, it doesnt matter if you modulate
I-iv7-v is a blues progression, same rules apply
he played pentatonic blues licks over a funk progression and in the B section, played a key tone melody within a key change.
and just because the track may have implemented a "blue note" A.K.A. flat 7.
doesnt mean its a blues.
technically its fusion but only because hes playing blues pentatonic licks over a funk groove. not because of its change in key centers.
