  • guitar is photoshop :D copy paste

  • Great playing.

  • What's the chord proression?

  • Some licks reminded me of Jeff Beck

  • 1:28 is so cool. . .

  • wow... a lot of pentatonic... only decided to use 5 notes? and the repetitive phrasing works wonders for you... no really...

  • @uponaburningman pentatonic fuck you

  • Nice work!

  • came across this by coincidence .. I like this a lot, very nice tone, phrasing, generally very good. Cool.

    :)

    P.S. Don't pay attention to B@Z@ comments ... often enough it's jealousy .. hehe

  • came across this by coincidence .. I like this a lot, very nice tone, phrasing, generally very good. Cool.

    :)

  • what pedals are you using man?

  • not fusion at all but pretty bluesy none the least

  • Seems like a merge between john frusciante and stevie ray vaughan

  • Nice,

  • Hey. You look like a brown haired me, but a foot shorter.

  • not really fusion but good funk bro!

  • Haters, this is sick man

  • That was awesome. Reminds me quite a bit of John Frusciniante...except spelled correctly.

  • @EpicLemurz Haha. Frusciante

  • how is that fusion you wonk

  • dont here the fusion :/

  • Dude when you gonna be on here with a band?

  • this is fucking lame

  • you play really well but this sounds really gay

    Fred

  • Comment removed

  • Very nice solo and who gives a shit about what the fusion funk critics write. Just enjoy the great music.

  • Love your playing on this.

  • Has anchoring your pinky helped?

  • the rythm was surely funky style but the guitar playing was somekind of rock or blues...not exactly funk...but ok nice playing

  • this is blues dude, not fusion!

  • i love your face XD! yeah this is passion!!

  • i love this!

  • Not too bad bro, how long have you been playing?

  • uh like jimi hendrix much get into that shit and people will praise you

  • Great plying and feeling , the best around 1:10 and 1:40.Greetings from Czech Republic

  • To all you kids questioning whether this is fusion or not:

    IT IS!

The problem is that you think of fusion like only shred-fusion or maybe the early fusion stuff that sounds really weird! Fusion isnt its "own" style, its a combination of several styles, hence the term fusion. This is funk, but with a more complex chord progression than i.e. james brown, more jazzy. Thats why it says funk fusion.

The solo however is mostly based on blues/pentatonic scale, but has some elements of jazz in them.

  • @Xecuter88 yea but original definitions get changed all the time. No one thinks of R&B as rhythm and blues anymore, they think of it as soul music. So perhaps it'd be better labeled fusion of funk/blues as opposed to funk fusion like all the jazz greats

  • the "fusion" he's referring to is the weird turnaround where he's forced to use something other than a blues scale, and the "funk" i think is the rhythm section, his occasional use of octaves, and jamming on a b7/#9 chord

no hate you're a sick guitarist, this is a cool solo

  • not bad.... what genres are being fused here? is it rock-n blues? maybe a bit of a jazzy bridge in there as well... keep it stringing man

  • Everybody needs to shut up. Sure this video is mostly blues pentatonic scales, but there IS fusion, some of the licks and scales he is using are by both definition and sound FUSION. So shut up. Please.

    Good day

  • hey kid your titles are misleading...be careful how you name your stuff. One clicks expecting something decent and your stuff comes up. Its just taking space.

  • Fusion is like... Allan Holdsworth. Listen to him and then make a new video.

  • jwwetzel, robert johnsons not the only blues player, eric clapton is a blues player and even covers robert johnson, but there styles are still totaly difrent, i hear a bit of fusion, but its mostly blues, and its good too

  • theres definitely some fusion-esque licks in there, like the octave part and the melody that comes shortly after

  • Could you tell me where I can get that backing track?

  • Great! :-)

  • lol nice solo, but you're ignorant. The "hwole world" doesnt only see Robert Johnson as blues. What was SRV? I'd call that blues too..

  • pentatonic + blues = not fusion.

  • Your damn right dude, I hear the funk in that shit. People have a hard time rememberin what the blues really is.

  • Fusion takes many forms Jazz/Rock or Blues/Rosk Fusion this is a bit of both but closer to the Larry Carlton/ Kazumi Watanabe , Steely Dan type of Fusion.

In any case it was shit hot! Well done Man!

    Mutation

  • dont get me wrong.. u play really good bro, and have read the coments.. it is blues.. thers is classic blues like Bessie Smith, contry blues like ROBERT JOHNSON.. yeah.. but thers also Rocking Blues.. havent you hear Steavie Ray Vaughn? thats blues also man.. Jazz comes from Blues and Ragtime.. so thers Jazz really bluesy.. also fusion is not only funk/jazz, but rock/jazz how bout a rocking blues/jazz.. lol

    "BLUESjamtracks"

tho.. u play really nice!! keep it going man!

  • What is your amp pedal set up? You sound good.

  • this is mostly blues with a little funk and fusion, but still, mostly blues

  • more blues than anything but awesome nonetheless

  • I agree with the guys , you got the fusion SOUND , and the groove , but NOT the NOTES .sorry

..advice from an old man , maybe you should learn , fusion licks , on ....youtube ...you could easily find millions of them

last advice ...The queen scale of fusion , is the mélodic minor ...find it ...and play it first ,cose most of the minor fusion licks are built with this scale ...the goal is near ...work with your mind too ..listen to Frank Gambale , Scott Henderson , Allan Holdsworth ..etc.

  • Are you playing in a band in the area? If you are still in Iowa, that area could use some better music. Also anyone who has the time, PLEASE CHECK OUT my uploads for my own improvisation jamming (of a similar vein). Also, I really dug 1:20-1:29.

  • lol at the "robert johnson" defense

  • @3dpaper ha yea he should've corrected them saying "no sir i'm playing blues rock!"

  • just because the backing track is funky doesn't mean your playing is

  • Though most of the solo is based on pentatonics, I do hear the fusion in hear, its quite noticeable, those who cant hear have trouble in their ears

  • i hear cool.

  • buen jazz!

  • Good job man. I enjoyed it and its definitely way better than most stuff up on youtube for sure! Ignore the haters out there because most people are just very generic and they are jealous of any success or talent anyone displays. I mean jeez people, it's just a youtube upload you put on! It's not like it's an album version or something! And if you look at most of the negative comments, those people if they have clips up they almost always SUCK big time, so just keep working on it!

  • your a good player, but you need to stop responding to critics, you come off as smug. its a shame too because you have a fair amount of talent. i'd say more but i know you'd just respond to it ha

  • I like your tone. It's got a nice creamy squish.

  • Perfect!

It's very unusual that someone with Petrucci influences plays so melodicaly, and doesn't treat guitar like extension of his dick.

No super fast shredding, no sweep picking, I like it!

If You like this sort of music make sure that U chceck Allen Hinds tracks, he's genius

  • im growing sick of this style of playing guitar

  • @thenamesfrancisco Why, and what style are you referring to?

  • @nezmaster1 all you have to do is remove the raised 4th from the Blues scale and you get the Minor Pent... I'm sure your music class tought you the Minor Pentatonic is one of if not the most used scales in all of "western" music. Then I'm sure you can connect the dots why every genre from jazz to deathmetal takes a few licks and tricks from blues and recycles them!!!

  • @nezmaster1

You sir should ask for a refund on that education of yours!!! There is no 1 single note that is a "Blues Note". There is a blues scale but it has more than 1 note. And it's simply the Minor Pentatonic scale with a raised forth added to it.

  • nice bro! the thing is... im pretty familiar with THE fusion genre... when you hear the pentatonic is almost blues for me.. there's barely any fusion licks there bro.. but dude.. you aint stupid man.. we all learn still... so good job! hope we can jam sometime through videos! LOL haha! good work bro!

  • @nezmaster1 who gives a FUCK! it sounds good who cares if its blues or not

  • @Ruddlet1432 Sound like diarrhea to me.

  • FLIPPIN' AMAZING

  • calm down guys, music is music. Just enjoy it for what it is!

  • Hey dude, Very nice performance ... good swing and funky style ... congratulations from Brazil!!!

  • little advice that may help you in becoming a better guitarist.

dont stick in the same position the entire time.you bought that entire guitar, use the entire neck.

dont jump back and forth from the top of the neck to the bottom.connect the licks and turn them into lines.

also gradually speed up,start off slow then start throwing down harder and faster

it sounds like musical masturbation when you start off tossing 8th note triplets right out of the gate, dont throw your best licks out first.

  • basics

ii-V-I is a modern jazz progression, it doesnt matter if you modulate

I-iv7-v is a blues progression, same rules apply

he played pentatonic blues licks over a funk progression and in the B section, played a key tone melody within a key change.

and just because the track may have implemented a "blue note" A.K.A. flat 7.

    doesnt mean its a blues.

technically its fusion but only because hes playing blues pentatonic licks over a funk groove. not because of its change in key centers.

  • @nezmaster1 this is definelty fusion bud. Why dontyou just quit crying and fucking tell the guy hes hella good...By the way jwwetzel this is fucking awesome

  • @Reggae4Life408 PArtially because he isn't good...

  • @Reggae4Life408 PArtially because he isn't good...

  • hey yo fukk that nezmaster character ur good :D

  • Goood funk!!!!!!!

  • Lol geez, calm the fuck down. Just listen to some badass music. I'm pretty sure anyone else would agree with me.

  • can i have this f**ing awesome backing track ?

  • sick dude, now i know what fusion guitar is. Heard it mentioned on the movie Extract. sick.

  • Steeley Dan

  • awesome! sounds great.

  • Awesome ! 5/5 !

  • Nice man, backing track?

  • beautiful phrasing...an example of how wonderful pentatonics can sound with a bit of thought before the pick hits the string!

  • Do I hear a little something from "Still A Friend Of Mine" by Incognito at 1:06 ?

    Awesome man, great playing!

  • why is this impressive???

  • @cheeks6700

    I agree

  • @cheeks6700 because its sex on the fret board with technical skill

  • I so wanna play this. plz make a lesson on this

  • Yeah, you Rock, Nice Guitar Solo, y Like your Funky Style, i´m gonna suscribe xP

  • Hey! Sound like SRV!

  • greetings from sicily

    you're great !

  • is everyone going to start dissin me if i say this is average? my point: where's the slides, the bends?!

  • great man, cool solo

  • so sick man

  • Youre really good, but dude; the whole clip you look like youre about to shit yourself!

  • lol dude you ever see john mayer play? guy looks like he's just creaming his pants non stop for entire songs.

  • it just blues pffff

  • nice solo, but no fusion techniques/chops at all. And barely any funk.

  • @dan2212089 agreed. This was a box position blues solo. Perhaps time to flow through some more positions of the F blues / pentatonic and get all over the place up in that fretboard.

  • really good music, i like it!!!

  • Fusion?

  • i like it :)!

  • what stupid and useless comment

  • Blues are mostly pentatonic scales. He should try include other tricks like arpeggios, note skipping, 5-7 notes into half beats, then you'll see some progress. It's still in the intermediate stage though. This is not beginner stage anymore but there is still a gap between intermediate and advanced stage.

  • sounds ALOT like eric clapton, minus the 80's jazz sounding parts

  • I honestly think he sound more Jimi Hendrix'ish, which I actually believe is who inspired him, but yea, you're right :)

  • Yep, he's definitely just like Clapton although I also notice some Jeff Beck and Jimi Hendrix in it too. Nice style though. Really semi-pro enough to play in clubs. Just need more push to really get that progressive rock fusion out.

  • he has his stuff.... as someone said there...at least he catches the feel of some great masters, that always good!

  • when he lays off the blues he looks as if he was going places no man has ever ventured before

  • very nice.

  • very good but this is definatley more blues than fusion, sounds abit like srv

  • this is creative!

  • o, and fusion? try SHAWN LANE!

  • ya that wasnt really fusion i mean you basically stayed in minor pentatonic the entire time

  • the sweet strat sound

  • fucking amazing!!

  • Its good.. Its blues mate :-)

  • I hear the blues but no fusion :)

  • Then you'd better go pull out some Robert Johnson and re-acquaint yourself with the blues.

  • I really don't know where you're going. I think your playing sounds like blues, but I honestly don't hear any fusion.

  • If that's the case, you have a different definition of blues then the rest of the world. Compare what I play with what Robert Johnson plays.

  • wow how fuckng dumb are you man? you think that little bridge makes it fusion.. lol wow 2 chord changes.. AMAZING BTW not..... all your doing is showing off and biting other ppl stuff. find your own voice man

  • @jwwetzel Dude..what you are playing is so totally blues. Its very road house blues, and sticking a little funk strumming with a little mixolidians doesnt make it funk or fusion... This is not even as fusion as robben ford's blusiest riffs

  • @jwwetzel I think you are a bit right wetzel but holm got a point, sometimes it looks like blues ( SRV style more than Robert Johnson ) But I agree with you it is more fusion than blues. What I'm trying to say is that there are pentatonic scale licks in your jam, wich is almost the blues scale. You sound great by the way.

  • @jwwetzel I can hear some jazz licks in there as well as blues. I think that holmclausen87 is just trying to be difficult

  • @holmclausen87 I agree, I did listen & I have been playing a long time myself, No funk, basic blues penatonic scale, very basic, not very smooth either. If you have been playing for like 2 - 3 years, ok, it's not bad. You mixed a few 16th note triples, here & there, played a few octave licks but they were all the same pattern/lick. Not impressed at all. practice for another 15 years, then put something up.

  • i agree... you start a bit blusy, but you quickly turn over to the fusion... and by the way... you've got it, props

  • where can i learn this style? What scales do i need to know? can you make a lesson?

  • only thing you need is the pentatonic scales, james solos are always around that scale :)

    Nice playing james

  • @jwwetzel

If so many of us say fusion is not present in your playing... Why wouldn't you believe that and go practice fusion licks? xD

  • a bit of Jeff Beck ,too

at least some parts exactly sound like JB.

    I like it :)

  • I wonder who your main influence is :P

  • I also feel some eric johnson... nice dude, good job!

  • Awesome!!! Greetings from Puerto Rico!

  • Great played.

  • very hendrix and VERY badass

  • amazing. im liking the hendrix influence mixed with the clean fusion stuff. sounds great

  • i don't like this stuff the vibration ain't good

  • can i get ur push number?:P

  • cool mixing of styles. i enjoyed this a lot. i'm trying to head in this general direction myself so this is a good example of what i should be aiming for :)

  • thats why strats are awesome

  • Excellent feeling, tone and rhythm. Thanks for that dude.

  • sorry but there is no funk this is either blues or fusion

  • Listen to the backing track you can hear the funk

  • great playing! true not so much fusion, but any way a great solo

  • wow

you must be a Stevie Ray fan aren't you?

    you're good!

  • Great playing was enjoyable to listen to which i think is the whole point!!!!!!!
