  • This is crap.

  • The pitch delivered here seems little more than an attack upon the confidence among people of the relatively free world that they have a reasonable handle on what happens on their planet. And in the midst of the competition between Islam and the West, one is left to suppose that it's a pitch for Islam. (See this lady at Why Americans Hate Muslims.) Newspeople have biases? Only a Computer Ager would bother to say so. But though its efforts are now so inept, the West tries. Islam itself is a lie.

  • This is nonsense.

  • All free world (sic) media & politicians covet their neighbour's Ass especially once they're into the twin drugs of money or power & after they've 'GOT WITH THE PROGRAM' Illuminati run on the world they're 'ALWAYS' into either sex OR drugs & sometimes it's sex drugs rock roll money & paedophilia so Langley & their Illuminati masters can better blackmail & control them & it works & it's worked well ever since Debbie (Butch) was caught doing a young boy called Dallas in Texas the day JFK was shot.

  • Media Bias is people presenting ONE side of an argument not their opinion. And news is not suppose to be an opinion, its suppose to be an analysis of the situation.

  • Good thoughtful video. . . thanks. . .

  • OMG! Her sickness is getting better and her brain is getting bigger...She danced around when Obama won the election after the main stream liberal media protected him and were basically propagandist!

For the record FOX NEWS is Unbiased! Look who they bring on...They bring everyone on including the liberal Kooks! FAIR AND BALANCED REPORTING! Thats why i watch them. When a republican screws up they report the news on them, when a democrat screws up the liberal media protects them...WHAT A JOKE!

  • @chuckm869 I always wonder what a fox news watcher has to tell themselves to believe that garbage, and you've showed me. Just see things the opposite as they really are... How many good things does fox say about Obama, a President who anyone would agree is better than Bush? Basically nothing. How many did they have to say about Bush? Many. There you go kid, you watch a right wing extremist news corporation, now maybe you can come to terms with who you really are...

  • To make inform decisions on important issues first we need all the facts and then make a decision, and bias news obstructs obtaining all the relevant facts. If anything you just made an argument for the inherent bias of the communication process, but under that reasoning nothing can ever be "unbias" which is just avoiding the issue, that giving the news under one or two perspectives hinders the report of all the relevant facts to the people, which the purpose of the news in the first place.

  • I am not interested in reading news which reflects the subjective view of a single journalist. Why should I? What about the subjective views of the other 7 Billions humans, just as (non-) interesting.

  • oh my god, shes REAL!? I saw your other videos and I just wanted to say you are absolutely gorgeous.

  • Surely a fair, balanced, unbias and independant media should be the ideal. I agree with some of what you say espeacilly with regards to Fox news. Humans have feelings and its hard to be completely neutral on many issues which affect us. However, Iv found the cartoon network more informative, mature and intellectualy stimulating than that channel.

The medias job is to inform and present the facts, allow the viewers to make up their own minds about how they feel on issues and topics.

  • THERESIDENT FOR PRESIDENT! Hahah.

  • I want kiss her for hours

  • By and large the Brittish have never taken newspapers and the media seriously from the end of WW2. National newspapers are nothing more than comics with the only true part been the price printed on the front page.

I find it quite shocking that so many other countries around the world are only just now seeing how full of propaganda the news media is. The news conglomerates thrive off making misery desireable. Think about it.

    Peace

  • I agree, but then , I disagree, but then , I would be biased although I can pretend not to be or maybe admit I am biased or maybe just not care if I am or not biased. either way a catch 22 is inevetable and then confustion will insue and then it all becomes a stupid thought to begin with...........!

  • What's making news ever more content-free (media researchers say as much as 30% less actual news/hour than in, say, 1960) is the brilliant idea - which came into prevalence in the 1980s - that the news has to consistently make a profit.

The most toxic bias in news isn't ideological - it's to do nothing that might offend the sponsor or the target audience. Facts that break this unwritten law don't get disseminated - remember the roar of silence around the corrupt financial industry in 2007-8?

  • Media bias in one thing, Propaganda is another, This country has a history of it, watch the documentary called "war made easy". Its all fubar.

  • Great video. My only eyebrow raising moment was the insertion of the comment to do with the "dumbing down" of your country. Unless I am missing something, you seemingly just inserted that with no substantiation whatsoever. It was snuck in and then assumed to have been proven, when it wasn't, at all. Can you connect that dot, I wonder?

  • The media should be impartial and objective, and they can be that way even if they are biased. Bias is part of the human condition and pretty much unavoidable. I don't think impartiality and objectivity are too much to ask, considering the rules of ethics that journalists and commentators make an attempt to abide by.

  • She is just as good as Robin Meade.

  • I disagree.

Maybe noone is biased, but often trying is a good thing.

The day we value opinion as much (or above) fact... that is a sorry day.

That is the day some 28 year old nit-wit argues that he is just as much right about physics as Einstein because 'that is my opinion'.

In some countries (mainly Scandinavia) this oppinionism has taken much stronger hold than in the US, and students at universities are more tested on their opinions that on actual facts, theories etc.

  • A point well made. Aside from the obvious political influence that can be exerted through the "unbiased" reporting of events, there's also some pretty sick twists. There was this one news report about the Libyan revolution that showed a bunch of people kicking and throwing empty cardboard boxes at each other and having a laugh, but the reporter didn't see that, she saw "desperate people, wading through empty boxes looking for food", so that's what the "unbiased news report" said was happening.

  • I have to say, a very well thought out commentary on the media. I agree but what do you tell the masses that can't think and form an intelligent opinion?

  • Like FAUX SNOOZE whose motto reads "Fair and balanced" when they are the mouthpiece of the Repugnican Neo Nazi party.

  • I like BiAss

  • The claim of being unbiased is not believed, so why fuss over it?

Embracing bias however often, it seems to me, leads to people embracing sheer irrationality for irrationality's sake.

People who do that are more easily manipulated than those who at least wish for unbiased content.

Lori has worked for Fox News, E! and other very biased news outlets so her opinion is to be expected.

  • @zck7 Good post!

  • Comment removed

  • I completely 100% agree with you. News media needs to admit this and admit that they are bias!. In my Bias opinion you hit the nail on the head!!!

  • And if all others accepted the lie which the Party imposed -- if all records told the same tale -- then the lie passed into history and became truth. "Who controls the past," ran the Party slogan, "controls the future: who controls the present controls the past." Reality control. George Orwell.

  • good one maybe that would lower the distortions people seem to have here in Texas...hehe well ok maybe not!

  • different newsmakers might have different ideas about what they consider newsworthy, and you can call that bias, but that's a whole different thing to newsmakers filtering what information they report about a story according to an agenda. why are you trying to put them in the same category? there's nothing clever about it. all you're doing is clouding any legitimate debate on the topic.

  • If unbiased reporters tell it like it is then they just reflect what's happening. But to get a complete picture they have to work to minimize their point of view. If they can't or won't do that, they become the story. Yet, no matter how hard they try, there still remains a trace of "The Medium Is The Message" in the story. Especially when ego comes to the fore.

  • This is funny, because you The Resident do not give your opinion on anything that matters.

  • "So long as I remain alive and well I shall continue to feel strongly about prose style,to love the surface of the earth, and to take pleasure in solid objects and scraps of useless information. The job is to reconcile my ingrained likes and dislikes with the essentially public,non-individual activities that this age forces on all of us"-Orwell in the essay, "Why I Write"Way to go George!

  • Bias is unavoidable and should be a given in any presentation. Balance is when both sides are heard. But Americans don't want to hear both sides. They delegate responsibility for leadership to the party which requires them to think less. Having MSNBC and Fox gives us balance but how many Americans watch both channels? Trying to change human nature is a fool's errand.

  • You make it sound so simplistic. The problem people have with biased reporting is when it all too often involves an intentional skewing of information or facts to convey a subject in a favorable or negative light.

  • The best "balance" these media outlets can aspire to is employing people with opposing opinions.

Here in Australia, the outlets associated with the right wing (News Limited, owned by Rupert Murdoch) employ people with a variety of opinions, and they reach 70% of readers.

Whereas the left wing outlets employs ZERO conservative commentators (the ABC, The Age, etc),

In the US, from what I gather there is only 1 news channel associated with the right, so I think picking on them is "unbalanced".

  • I love the way you untangle things for us!

  • This is what happens when people have too much freedom, lies can be protected under freedom of expression...

  • Fox News - We Destort, You Comply

    MSNBC - MSDNC

  • The only Unbiased media is the Resident! Speaking of you, when are you going back out on the street to report?! Too cold for ya? *taunting you, hoping it'll ag you on to doing it*

  • Hitchens is dead,I'll have to read something of his to see what he was about.Orwell probably said it better, though

  • If you are honest with yourself, no matter your political leanings, you know she is right on the money with this. Bravo Lori, once again an awesome video. *does happy dance* 'Everyday I'm shuffling' :P

  • I don't follow any information passed on by the media too closely, just in passing. It has to taken with a grain of salt.Bias is natural and unadvoidable.I prefer reading history, long after the event. That way,I may be able to form considered conclusions about what's really happening today,....Except I can't ,because I'm not all that....or even all there, most of the time!

  • The only unbiased people are the dead.

  • Media Bias is OK, but only when it's "fair and balanced", lol!

  • There are 6 Media Giants: NBCUniversal, Viacom, Disney, News Corp., TimeWarner, and CBS.

The thousands of channels fall under one of the Big 6.(Radio is ClearChannel and CBS).

They are led by CEOs that attend the same Bilderberg meetings and consort with the same NWO Corporotocratic entities. Go up against them and you will suffer the same fate as Rosie O'Donnell, Dan Rather, and Charlie Sheen.

  • Think of your local, non cable, channel news sources and count the # of "people's views" you have to choose from. Or the fact that if you were paying for programming, there are less than 10 major networks to choose from for news, who ensure any open stream channel left over has "Two and Half Men" or "NCIS" on eternal repeat. THAT is dangerous to choice and dangerous to the freedom of views that we can agree have a bias. Mine being to unequal access to most media to share their views.

  • Wow!! brains and beauty. Love it!! I wonder if she writes this herself or if she has a script made for her.

  • I also loved how my college professors claimed "no bias" when choosing what to teach and what to emphasize in the literal arts.

  • Can i lik your ear...

    Can i ?

  • ALL the Major Media is lies. Even when they're telling the truth, they're avoiding the part of the truth that is an indictment of their cronies especially the most powerful.

  • MSNBC is NOT LIBERAL. THEY'RE CORPORATE. They're pretend liberal. They talk about anything but the mass murder their government is doing as mass murder and they avoid all talk of prosecution for all that mass murder the government is doing on their behalf to their joy.

  • True. The news should be biased toward The Truth. Mass publication of lies should be prosecuted and the extent of the damage by the lies become the punishment imposed on the guilty.

  • All I ask from the media is that the general rule of confirming their "facts" before reporting be followed. At least that way the possibility of being close to the truth is higher. Also when its an opinion, say its an opinion or put it in the editorial section. Give me the facts and leave the opinions out so I can make up my own mind. Or maybe read the editorial if I want someone elses opinion.

  • That's the main problem with CNN. Some republican says some mad shit and it's like " Well Blue said cutting aid to veterans is a bad thing, while Red proposed we use non Christian babies as furnace fuel. Both opinions are great and they are both equally valid"

  • Well said, and well thought out Lorie.

These types of posts are why I keep coming back to my Youtube subscriptions.

    Keep it up!

  • Lori's so simplistic - she sees everything in Black and White.

    Or maybe that's me...?

  • You're so beautiful and knowledgeable. Damn.

  • I can't wait till the robots rise up to rule us all !!! All hail your unbiased computer overlords.

    10110000101 010001001100 011010111001 00111100001100 1111011001110 !!!

  • I think women look pretty when they slouch. Do you ever slouch?

  • Interesting...this is definitely worth showing my American Government class when we talk about Media.

  • i'm not opposed to media bias... i'm opposed to one bias being the majority and not letting another bias see the light of day...

  • I have no problem with media bias, even artificial media bias. What I have a problem is people buying into others bias not knowing there is a bias. Or even arguing against the bias even when in truth it may be artificial slant on the story to please the viewers or other parties. There in lies the problem people buying into lies and even been deliberately miss lead in some cases.

I like that the bias can form reasoned debate as most likely it does and doesn't conform with peoples views.

  • Total objektivity is impossible, but I dont think its a bad thing to strive for it. History school books were written by people as well. And usually I find it fairly easy to filter the subjektivity while I read.

  • I like going to the fox news facebook page and saying good things about democrats. After that I go to the msnbc page and say bad things about democrats. I do it to get people mad at me.

  • pretty good video, except for saying the need to be accountable, what does that mean? some authority to come along and decide whats true or false? you probably dont mean that as it would kind of go against what your getting at in this video but yeah, the other good thing about having a press free to be biased, is that you get heaps of different outlets all giving a different story and you can sort of siphon the truth out of that, blogging, reddit, youtube etc usually get to the bottom of it.

  • shooting at an angle you say , with that smile on your face , lulz

  • I love her point of view on many subjects (including this one), such a well presented argument. Thumbs up!

  • @timfmr Thanks timfmr! :)

  • God you're so pretty :)

  • A turd is a turd whichever way it gets turned around....

  • @BigAndTall666 hahaha

  • @theresident Lori, are you ever going to sing again?...Thanks for making it worth getting out of bed on friday.

  • So, you're saying it's ok for media moguls to act like Citizen Kane as long as they never say they're unbiased? If you had the choice of plain bag of dirt or a shinny bag of dirt... what's the difference? It's still a bag of dirt.

  • So if I understand the lady correctly, everyone is a liar and trust no one? That is not necessary at all. Back in the day when most news was "written", there was a distinction between "news" and "editorial". The problem is, today, there is little distinction between the two. What is important is that the citizen search out multiple viewpoints and try to be as dispassionate as possible. Withhold judgement as long as possible.

  • Unbias and balanced are two separate goals, you appear to have comflated them here. Balance is more about recognising bias and expressing that range of views by including all of the main opinions on a topic. Now I know that's not how American news works or ever will, and I take your point that people who are obviously bias shouldn't try to pretend. I would take issue with the idea that just cause the US media can't do balance no one can!

  • @Loreki Well said. You are right, there can be a difference between balanced and unbiased - I shouldn't equate them, though I believe news organizations kind of blur the line.

  • @theresident "balanced and unbiased" ? :-) how about reasonable? & yes I remember the days of Ted Turner's CNN when they would pitch right against left & both of them against the medal with a sole intention of victory for no one and loads of insight for the viewer but then again I am older I suppose, and what do I know:-)

  • @theresident Hey honey would you like to take the virginity of an 18 year old?

  • @theresident Well said!?!! that is nonsense! What is needed is an understanding of terms. Bias is when you use your job in Media to add your own OPINION and sell it as news. Especially as practised by liberals in media--they try hard to spin the news to make the 'facts' support their ideology. Truth is nowhere to be found. Real news should be presented by someone or a group of someones based on the most credible FACTS at hand, and there should be no editorial included.

  • @jmshaw357 Take a look at Fox News--they present the news right down the middle, and use only the best information available. Where most people get sidetracked if when they see O'Reilly or Hanniy on Fox, and presume Fox is selling their shows as news. IT IS NOT News--it is news analysis, and generally they are conservative in their views, as most americans are. Not ALL product from Fox is news, ONLY the news programs are news. Fox doesn't mix them.

  • Bias is oposite to virtue (period).

  • As a journalist you can state the facts and show the truth, you can do these things without throwing in your own opinion. You could however also state that some parts of your report, are your own personal views on the matter. Another remark i have is that mainstream news, is in all fairness a joke and should be avoided at all cost. They are not only not unbiased but also liars, liars that manipulate the news to fool the average Joe/Jane.

  • 100% agreed! Subjectivity in and of itself is fantastic, just don't use it as an excuse to be lazy, or as an excuse to exert one's authority. Great post!

  • @DanielMumby Thanks man!

  • I love the irony, well, more like hypocrisy, of MSNBC saying that FOX News if the mouthpiece of the Republican Party, when they are the mouthpiece of the "Obama Party".

  • MSNBC are not really liberal, they are only liberal compared to the US mainstream. Remember how they jetissoned Cenk Uygur and Keith Olbermann because they refused to toe the Democratic party line in exchange for access?

  • Excellent!
