  • A Phone "jack" was on tha back, not a phone "cord"...get it right Ashy Larry

  • I bet nobody knows this, but you can surf the web on a sega saturn.

  • VMU was "VISUAL" Memory Unit not "virtual"

  • I WAS ONE OF THE FEW CRAZY PEOPLE THAT ACTUALLY BOUGHT THIS CONSOLE ,, EVERYBODY THOUGH I WAS INSANE ,, BUT WHILE THEY WERE PLAYIN THEIR PUNK ASS MEDAL OF HONOR ON THE PSONE I WAS KICKIN THE SHIT OUT OF ASSHOLES FROM OTHER COUNTRIES ON QUAKE 3 ONLINE !!!

  • i swear the n64 had analogs before the dreamcast!?

  • UMMM did every one forget that the sega saturn was the 1st console to have a true analog stick on a controller ? ...it was called Saturn 3D control witch was the basis for the Dreamcast controller

  • @BlueLightningMan01

The thing is, analog control was available ever since the Atari 2600 days. The second thing is that while the N64's analog stick was a digital hybrid rather than a pure analog stick, it still came out with the concept first.

  • @dunnono00 weren't the atari analogue controllers just 1D spinners though? wasn't even born til a good few years after that so im just going on pictures i've seen. dreamcast pads were pretty good i thought aside from the thumb destroyer aka d-pad, but i have freakishly large hands and thought the first xbox pad was way better than the smaller one they changed it for.

my dreamcast still has better web browsing capability than my 360. WTF MICROSOFT sega did it in '98 what is wrong with you now?

  • @milkkart

I was thinking about the Atari 5200, but goofed. I always figured the 2600 joysticks were just simple digital ones, but honestly I don't know much about them. It was before my time as well.

But yeah, that was a HIGH d-pad on the DC. The cord being on the bottom was a little off putting as well. It wasn't bad at all, but dual analog was the future. I'll have to agree with you on the "Duke" controller as well. I thought it was comfortable and my hands are fairly normal.

  • @dunnono00 well ok then you said it yourself, The sega saturn was the 1st console to have a "TRUE" analog stick on a controller :p

  • @BlueLightningMan01

Yeah, but it's kind of a moot point because the N64 thumbstick behaves in the same way as the Saturn's. They provide exactly the same function for games, so what difference does it make if you say Sega had a pure analog stick first? Since Nintendo showed off their controller in '95 and it caused Sega and Sony to rush out with theirs, I still say the 64's was the first and most important.

  • @dunnono00 OK we get it your a Nintendo fan boy trollin on a sega video :P.... O and by your logic the Atari 5200 was really the 1st to be true analog technology. But for some odd reason you keep saying Nintendo :/

  • @BlueLightningMan01

The analog control you see in the Wii, 360 and PS3... does it resemble the N64's or the 5200's?

The concept of an analog stick on a console probably goes to the 5200. The modern day integration of a thumbstick, however, was more or less started with the N64.

  • @dunnono00 I DUB YOU NINTENDO TROLL ....that abbreviated would be NINTROLL!!!

..... i bet you will still have something to say about the N64 on this comment to >_>

  • @BlueLightningMan01

I bet you don't really believe that. These days, people just call anyone a troll if they don't like what the other person is talking about, regardless if it's the truth.

  • @dunnono00 Hmm wait so if we are gonna fight about analog sticks, can we go farther back in time to the sega master system, where they had a controller that you could put a thumb stick on?????

  • @tisokan

    Hop in the DeLorean.

The Master System's thumbstick is pretty interesting. Of course, tacking a stick onto a digital pad doesn't change the fact that it's still a digital control system.

  • @dunnono00 Isnt the n64 a pure analog since it was a hybrid?

  • Its ''visual memory unit'' not virtual. But teh DC owns, period.

  • ya the dreamcast got the achievement (1000 g being advanced your time)

  • I like everything about this video... The way the guy presents the Dreamcast and especially the music! Where's the music from? I hope that Sega does make another console someday... I gave up console gaming and went to PC after generation 7 began in 2005.

  • Visual memory unit, not virtual.

  • At 1:47 you can hear an xbox360... Lmao

  • @TaInTeDlYnX

You should put a little more care into your reading. I even put it in quotes. The modern form adopted by all three consoles today is that of the analog thumbstick, which the was on the N64 first. There is such a thing as giving credit where credit is due.

  • @dunnono00 atari buddy

  • @619Vital

    Not a thumbstick, pal.

  • @dunnono00 For one, you're wrong.

    For another, I'm right.

  • @619Vital

Wrong, and wrong once more. That's three strikes; you're out.

  • @dunnono00 For one, you're wrong.

    For another, I'm right.

  • @619Vital

Having exhausted his minute language skills and reached the limits of his intelligence, 619vital can only repeat himself like a broken machine.

Thus, another one bites the dust.

  • The Sega Saturn 3d pad had analog before the N64 came out. And technically the Odyssey and other knob-based consoles had it too, just in a different form of analog. Nintendo wasn't the first to have this.

  • @mexican379

The thing about the Saturn is a common misconception, the N64's thumbstick came first. While analog control systems were used before the N64, Nintendo did implement the "modern form" first.

  • i like sega`s controller but the first one with analog was n64 controller and to this day still is the smoothest ..

  • There are Rumors that Sega is working on a new system even though they stated they would only produce games like i said RUMORS and it might be true

  • Ummm I believe Sega Saturn's 3D controller (featured for Nights Into Dreams) was the first controller to have an analog stick & triggers.... Dreamcast's controller was an evolution of the the Saturn's 3D unit.

  • @koreandude81 The vectrex controller was the first to have analog then nintendo 64 then saturn 3D

  • @toad773: Yup. I totally forgot about the Vectrex, but if you look at my comment closely, I said the Saturn's 3D controller was first at the analog stick AND triggers. While the vectrex and n64 controllers had an analog stick, analog triggers weren't available.

  • @TaInTeDlYnX

(continued) Besides, Tony Hawk was still really fresh at the time, and was actually one of the few ports that took advantage of the DC hardware, everything was pretty much just PS1 games with anti-aliasing. Nobody foresaw the series turning into some massive gimmicky milkfest.

Had it not been for easy piracy and SoulCalibur, I probably wouldn't bothered with the Dreamcast myself.

  • @TaInTeDlYnX

Love letter to gamers? Lol what? If they cared about us they would've let the Saturn run it's course, not rush the Dreamcast out to a market where the Saturn was a big success, and were therefore couldn't care less for what was a PS1 clone with a sloppy port of VF3.

Jet Grind Radio is one massive clusterfuck of "oh hey lets try horribly hard to look cool and lose all grasp on good controls!" It didn't have the humble yet vivid identity that JSRF did. (continued)

  • it was a deadleg before it even started, i was the sucker who bought one!

  • @TaInTeDlYnX

It wasn't for you, my bad. -.-'

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah! Mini-Games on the VMU! middle finger to you Xbox controller!!!!!

Seriusly, the dreamcast was a blast, Phantasy Star Online, huge story, online gaming, there was not WoW and trolls on that ERA and it was awesssomeeeee!

  • Yep. Still got mine. Still works. Great system. Tokyo Extreme Racer. Shenmue. Sonic Adventure. Jet Grind Radio. What a system what a time. Thanks Dad for the random Christmas gift!

  • I don't care what anyone says. I hope Sega takes another crack at a console. They had great ideas.

  • @lllllllRobot no chance, sega are through and they said so, their just going to stick to what there good at and that is make games!

  • @rainxxxx You're probably right and I understand it's not practical, but the key word here is "hope".

  • @lllllllRobot i just think their marketing is crap, and theve already sold out to nintendo, but never give up hope

  • @TaInTeDlYnX

That is not it .. Sega burnt themselves with putting out counsel after counsel .. most people did not want to my something from sage since they felt in a little while they will come out with something new .

  • Sega saturn was the first game to have an analog stick

    so lets get it correct

it was played with Nights Into Dreams

  • Comment removed

  • Screw playstation! This should have been the system that made it big! Sega should buy sony and make a system that doesn't make me vomit. there's like, 4 good games i can think of! >:(

  • @Deddshot

It was for the best man, think how much the Dreamcast could've held back the potential of the succeeding consoles, PS2, Gamecube and Xbox.

Sega screwed themselves by trying to retcon the Saturn out of existence.

  • All I remember from Dreamcast is that my friends had all of the games that they stole and downloaded off the net and then used.

  • One thing I hated about the VMUs was when you plugged your controller in WITH a battery, it still ran off the battery. Rather than running off the power from the console which it did when you didn't have a battery. And it was really hard to get those batteries in my country back then.

  • I thought the Dreamcast came out in 1998. I don't know why but that's what I remember it being. I've had 2 DC's and some of the best games ever made were released on it. I still play my DC from time to time, even though I do have modern consoles such as an Xbox 360. Now people are just remaking the old games like Hydro Thunder on the arcade for Xbox 360. The only real change being the graphics. Making money on previous developer's work.

It's sad, nobody knows what a real game is anymore...

  • @stickmanbrains it did come out in 98, but only in japan :). i'm ordering my dc off ebay right now actually :D.

  • @O7DOYLE7O Ah ok. I knew I was on to something! And yea the DC console is what's worth the money, the games and accessories are easy to get and for really cheap. I still have two 1st Gen Dreamcast consoles. Go me. lol

  • @stickmanbrains haha sweeet, if you're ever selling, let me know... some idiot on ebay decided to outbid by a dollar on literally the last second.... well... there goes a whole system, able to read bootlegs with two controllers, two vmus, and 50+ games..... and for $40 too. xD. anyways. dreamcast rocks. i'll get one someday haha.

  • @O7DOYLE7O WHAT!? You sold a DC + access for $40? You got ripped off. And I'm never selling mine, that thing's a piece of my childhood in a way.

  • @stickmanbrains LOL. no. i was gonna buy one xD

  • This is a black guy presenting but a white guy doing the voice over translation to help us white english speaking folk to understand the black guy slang.

He's probably saying things like: yo yo ma lil niggas check dis shit out maaan, i jus robbed dis shit from some white dudes muthafuckin crib maaaan, i shot him 2 time an den fucked his moms in da azzzz, yo you shood hav seen it daawg, hey lemmie get some crack for this shit nigga.

    yeah, something like that.

  • @clitmint Some 'white' people talk 'blacker' than some 'black' people. (Not wangstas) This guy is most likely American, and black Americans don't have nearly as bad slang. And it's easy to understand 'black' people you just don't be a butt-powdered goody-goody white boy like yourself.

  • @stickmanbrains I know, i was just messing,, i do realize that its not all black folk that talk that way, its mostly just the Tv "gangstas", and blacks AND whites from the south, and there is a whole lot of simple minded white people who listen to rap music and overnight think they are black "tv" gangstas and talk like they have disabled mouths, and i CAN understand black people, even the ones who talk with that slang.

What makes you think im white anyway?, did you know black people tell jokes?

  • @clitmint Did you know 90% of the people in my country are black? So yes. I do know about 'black' folks.

  • @stickmanbrains It would kinda help if you said you were from somewhere in particular,, then continued to say - "So yes, i do know about 'black' folks",,

Instead of asking a question which is really difficult to even guess at.

  • @clitmint All I hear is crying.

  • @stickmanbrains All you hear is crying?, I dont get how the comments moved on to your ability to hear crying all of a sudden,, well at least i know your not deaf now.

  • @clitmint It was a baby in the hallway. DUH

  • @clitmint Fail racist joke, go suck a dick, while one of us "gangster niggers" fuck your mother in her tight anal, and finger your grandma in her dusty pussy, hope you get diabetes, bitch.

  • @DizzyBaddAzz I thought i told you to stop masturbatiung while sleeping,, and keep taking your ritalin damn im sick of reminding you about that you little shit.

  • @DizzyBaddAzz You're funny, yeah, I'll go take my ritalin, I'll get your mother to watch, to make sure it goes down. But while I'm doing that, how about you go pick up a spoon, and slit your throat with it, try it til you succeed, you fucking failed abortion. #PS, Your mother left you on a door-step, too bad they returned you.

  • by far the best console i have ever had.

but i still believe final fantasy saga are the best games ever, ff7 on top.

  • Oreo.

  • shen mue 1+2 were enough of a reason to own a dreamcast.not a bad console just a shame it died off.good thing with the console was it played copied games withouy needing the console chip

  • BS as far as the controller is concerned.

  • u can tell xbox 360 controller got a lot of its idea from the dreamcast

  • I remember Sega kicking me out a couple times for browsing porn

  • @AYCHMENG

    hahaha

  • 1:48 am I the only one who turned my head to the TV?

  • LOL, listen to 1:48 SOMEBODY GOT AN XBOX360 ACHIEVEMENT.

  • @supermario641996 or maybe it is the family timer :D

  • @alaandawod lol I didn't relies people were thumbs uping this lol.

  • @supermario641996 and look even closely at the bottom of the screen behind him :)

  • @supermario641996 No, somebody goes offline if you look at the TV at 1:53, he uses his 360 to show the Dreamcast logo.

  • @davidus444 It was a joke.

  • OOOOO I got a Sega Dreamcast!!!!!

  • thumbs up for deleting those assfuck ads before the videos

  • Quake 3 arena....nuff said

  • the real reason why sega dreamcast failed was because of their poor value chain mangement. sony took over because they had a better supply chain management system.

  • Displaying a pic of the Dreamcast logo on an Xbox360.......ouch, my brain.....

  • i miss the dreamcast it was a great console and it died too soon

  • @Metalscourge17 me too, back then when the dreamcast died i had to switch to the ps2 cuz the gamecube and xbox were crap

  • I don't think Sega have enough money or resources to compete with Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo.

  • @GuysSeriously No, they didn't. They went into the red just designing the Dreamcast.

  • I wish they would make a sega Dreamcast 2 :) but that would never happen because sega only make shit stuff now:(

  • Man, I've been waiting for a Sega Dreamcast 2 since 2000.... The Dreamcast was definitely the way to go, and its games really still are the way to go.

  • @ECFC10

you have one teenager and are you black?

  • @ECFC10 nah they make the best arcade games

  • Comment removed

  • i just heard an xbox message

  • Good times, good times. Till the bankrupted :(

  • Nice vid, best system for fighting games ever! oh, and I bet that all of you d-bags, who said that he sounds white, don't know a lot of well spoken black men, geez really?? what year is this to make such comments, lotta "good ol' boys" still running loose I see, oh well.

  • You could also upgrade the modem in the Dreamcast to use a Broadband Adapter which obviously give you MUCH MUCH faster gameplay.

  • Dreamcast was the Wii of 1999. Nintendo copied Sega :P

  • @classicrockrockz But the Dreamcast wasn't extremely weak compared to it's competitors...

  • @BlooMassacre BURN!!!!!!! But seriously, I really don't care about playing games in HD since the only games I play are Sonic games and Super Smash Bros. Brawl (for Sonic)

  • Everything was right up until the end. Dreamcast wasn't one of the first systems to incorporate analog controls, nor was it one of the first to have trigger controls. Sega Saturn with it's 3D Controller was the first I can think of to have analog, and PSX's Dual-Analog had analog and triggers, as well as N64's standard controller having both.

  • @EmeraldWarrior420

An analog stick actually goes farther than that, though I should mention the N64's was the first of that console generation, not the Saturn's.

  • was so ahead of its time. i remember using the browser, downloading a game save onto the vmu, and then playing the game with all the unlocked charcters etc. cant even do this shit on a 360

  • Soundoff! SEGA has two machines in development: The RINGEDGE and SEGADRIVE. RINGEDGE is a digtal downloadable console set to be unveiled at CES 2011 and SEGADRIVE a top secret 3D stereoscopic console/arcade board in development since 2006. SEGA will end a 10 year dry spell from the console business.

  • 1:47 its the sound when someone comes online at xbox lol

  • Comment removed

  • Jet Set Radio was such a good game!

  • @AntiJonasZone OMG I USED TO PLAY THAT

  • I love the DC - the Saturn Nights controller had an analogue nub too - in fairness you did say 'one of the first' though :)

  • For all those who are hoping Sega makes another console, it's not happening. Sega's not getting back into the hardware business. It all comes down to money, and they're doing fine as a third party developer. In fact they're doing much better then they were before they dropped out the hardware race. So I don't see it happening

  • did u hear the xbox 360 notification sound, or whatever you want to call it. 1:48

  • nintendo has been going strong! the game-cube could not play online nor run DVD's BUT they made it threw.

    i give them respect.

no respect to sega doe. they should be ashamed. gave-up on the dreamcast, a very powerful console that all it needed was faith.

  • @blitzvomitew16 wow you dont know shit.

  • @alphaotakux

so why did the DC fail ?

because of a silly "no dvd player" reason ? when the GC did not have a DVD player neither but did very well.

it failed due to the fact Sega was never loyal enough to stick with a idea.

  • @blitzvomitew16 Sega Dreamast is my favorite system. Sadly it did not sell well due to a few reasons.

Here is a small article on why it was killed

    kotaku.com/5049847/

  • @blitzvomitew16 No, it failed because of Sega's debt accumulated over failed projects, namely the Saturn, 32x, and Sega CD. They did everything right with the Dreamcast and it had the most successful launch ever at the time. They just couldn't make enough sales to take them out of debt. They sold 3 million consoles in one year, which is nothing to scoff at in 1999-2000.

  • @ns12123

you basically said what i said.

i said ppl had a hard time forgiving sega. which is why ppl did not buy the console.

what i said leads up to what you just stated.

  • @blitzvomitew16 Although some people may have bad tase in their mouth about Sega, this was not the reason the Dreamcast failed. The debt was the number one concern when it came to the bottom line. They had a sales goal that would be hard for anyone to reach at the time in order to counter this. Despite what you think, it was not a market failure and sales were not poor. They just weren't adequate to pay off their massive debt. Sega wasn't wise with how they used their money.

  • @ns12123 I still love the dreamcast. I bought mine at launch. It is still one of my favorite systems of all time. I especially love all the great games that come out of the homebrew movement which shows that gamers are often times more creative than the developers.

  • @ns12123 Sega wasn't thinking money, they where thinking joy.

  • @ns12123 not to mention all the money they spend on "Sega World London"

  • @alphaotakux

& it was not like the DC did not have good games.

    sonic adventure= 9.2

    sonic adventure 2= 9.3

    phantasy star=9.3

    project justice= 8.8

    shenmue= 9.7

most of the DC games got high scores! higher then most the junk out today.

  • sega won't make another system. they are broke as hell.

depending on sonic to carry "sega" as a whole. & have not made a good sonic game since "sonic adventure 2".

if sega can't even get sonic right, how are they going to make a new system ?

they did it right with the dreamcast but even they said "fuck you" to the dreamcast. sega just is not a good company when it comes to sticking to things & being loyal.

  • sega is way better than the childish company nintendo want a proof ?

wii sucks comparing to ps3 or xbox 360 .. in the other hand when the dreamcast arrived sega raped N64 and make it dead .. long live sega we want a NEW CONSOLE

  • @Deidaaraartisabang

um, the dreamcast came at the end of that gen. it don't even count!

the dreamcast was more powerful then the ps2. BUT ppl felt Sony would not do them dirty like Sega always do. Sega was making consoles then leaving them for dead. they even did that to the dreamcast!

the dreamcast was only out for 2 years. we never got to see the full power of it.

the dreamcast could had took it's spot back easy but sega started to panic & gave up.

  • Comment removed

  • haaha I didnt even know my dreamcast had a modem till I saw this video. Man those VMU sucked cuz out of my friends only I had it and I had no one to battle with

  • @spike378 It should be a dreamcast 2, but microsoft had the right of sega and so did the xbox. But the makers of Xbox Sega. As can see what times what Bill Gates has done, he was so jealous of Sega. Each console manufacturer was afraid of Sega.

  • Wish Sega was still making consoles...DC was way to ahead of its time PS1 and N64 could only look in envy at the amazing power and games of DC...its thanks to those people we call sheep going after the PS2 that the DC died.

  • i loved the online

  • Some of what he says is incorrect. The first controller to use an analog stick is the Nintendo 64 controller although the Atari 5200's controller was the first to use analog movement.

The Sega Saturn 3D Controller may have been the first controller to use triggers.

  • This guy doesn't know what his talking about the first analogue stick and triggered L and R controller was actually the controller bundled with Nights on the Sega Saturn

He really needs to do his research a LOT more

  • The VMU was as useless as tits on a bull. Dreamcast was the only system that had it, and it will forever be the on system that used it.

  • @OldsXCool Who knows? Some other system could take the idea of having a handheld in a controller someday but with better battery life, backlit and colour screen and maybe even a touch-screen to make it into something like a PDA.

  • @Ohsta6t2 There are very good reasons why the VMU never caught on. Ever hear of a cell phone? Plus memory cards are almost a thing of the past with consoles having HDDs and the Wii having SD cards. The VMU ain't commin' back.

  • @OldsXCool Of course I have heard of a cell phone. They are also called mobile phones. It could also be a handheld games console and you could share game data and stuff directly with two of them without needing a console or even a machine to manage data.

Why would have SEGA made a device like a VMU and a controller with a screen?

  • @Ohsta6t2 My point is that cell phones are now the choice for gaming on a device that you can fit in your pocket and that is always with you. Secondly nobody cared or cares now about sharing game data without the use of a console.

Sega made the VMU with the idea of being revolutionary. It never caught on and and since then has become obsolete. Plus companies now don't wanna give away anything for free. Sega wants you to buy Sonic for your cell phone.

  • @OldsXCool Whatever you say.

  • anybody know when a new system is supposed to be released? i mean new with new games

  • Sonic Adventure is the only Dreamcast game to sell over 1 million units, and sold a total of 2 million

  • @TunerKnightmare I have a question about the dreamcast. Can you play PC games on the Dreamcast?

  • @1990babyface Nope, not sure where you could get an idea like that

  • @watchmojo can the dreamcast still be played online

  • Another great thing about the VMU is it was a mini personal screen for some games during multiplayer. You could see your cards for Sonic Shuffle, without your friends knowing what cards you had. You could also pick your football plays in football games without your friends knowing your plan.

  • I still have a Dreamcast, and at times it's more fun than my PS2.

  • wait... xbox 360 controller looks like dreamcast controller wtf?!

  • IMO: Dreamcast was fantastic, but it was just too soon and too much all into one. I remember numerous times while playing NBA2k that the system would crash in between game play. I think the inside was just a little too underpowered, but still Dreamcast brought virtual fun into the new millennium.

  • Visual Memory Unit...

  • @TysoeJ the best memory card ever...

  • if you close your eyes, he sounds white.....

  • @XonezIOIzenoX maybe thats cuz he's canadian...?

  • @XonezIOIzenoX

    you're a moron

  • @XonezIOIzenoX Not all black people sound like 50 cent and Ghetto....

  • @ojideagu Thank you dude!!!!

  • @ojideagu Correct. Some of them, like this gentleman in the video, actually bother to learn how to speak properly.

  • @XonezIOIzenoX a disgrace to his people

  • @georgethe09 lol i didn't intend for much recognition on him sounding white, but that was my first thoughts when i was looking into this video. He really sounds like a regular white dude, not to sound racist at all ofcourse :).

  • @XonezIOIzenoX no he sounds like a fucking nerd

  • @XonezIOIzenoX that as to be the dummest thing ever said on utube, how the fuck can your voice make you sound white.

  • @XonezIOIzenoX True, but I hate to admit it. But why is that an issue? I don't think we will ever get over this "race" thing as humans

  • Yeah it didn't have enough respect because people viewed it as inferior to the ps2

  • hay u heard that on 1:48 i sent him a message

  • lol, vmu, i remember that shit. good times man, can't wait to play shenmue again when i pick up a dreamcast

  • Quake 3 Arena ALL DAY!
