  • how do you carry these?

  • @Gunslinger69usa You can put some in an empty pill bottle or wrap them in saran wrap, tin foil, got lots of choices.

  • Isnt it going to poison you food because it's toxic

  • @zane000000000 You must use this in difficult conditions to get a fire going to keep you warm or cooking with a pot. If you were to cook food directly wait until it is burnt away.

  • Great video - thanks for sharing. I had a Bushcraft day last spring with my grandkids and we made these and tried them out. They loved it. We had a ferro rod and steel for each of them to try to light the balls they had made. All were successful - they still talk about it and it's all thanks to you!

  • @SanJuanMtnBob Well thank you very much. Those are words that I love to hear....Appreciate it..Thank You.

  • what a great piece of imformation

  • @thestationcat Thank you John....

  • Thanks so much for sharing! If you leave it in the wax longer to absorb more, you said it wont take a spark as well, but what if you rip the cottonball open to expose the inner dry cotton? Then you'd have more wax for a longer burn time, right?

  • @WazooSurvivalGear You are very welcome. If you let the gel wax get into the cotton ball too much you will not have any dry cotton left. But as you said you can break it up to expose thin fibers so it does catch and yes the more gel the longer burn time. And there is nothing wrong in using a match or lighter to get it going.

  • Type in Home Made Fire Starter a video by the survivorexpert101. This looks safer. The products used are not toxic and probably cheaper. You might actually be able to boil water over it. It apparently burns for 15 minutes.

  • great vid man, checvk mine out, and subb, i've got some cool ones on the back burner :) parafin wax at a dollar store works the same.

  • great vid man, checvk mine out, and subb, i've got some cool ones on the back burner :)

  • Thanks for this vid, Mike! I bought some gel wax off Trademe while watching this. I can't wait for it to arrive so I can make some! Cheers, guy!

  • @goldenscales You are very welcome...have fun....

  • AMAZING :o)

  • @Ggreenvideos :)))

  • Excellent Mike, high performance firestarter.

  • @ColinOutdoors Thanks Colin :)

  • @Waldhandwerk Thank you Sepp....

  • Thanks for reposting this video my brother and friend. Keep sharing your great knowledge with us........Tom

  • @1620416204 Thanks Brother....

  • Nice vid, Your gel wax you use, is it made by a company name Nostalgia? if so I found the same on Amazon.com, about 17.50.....Thanks for sharing!

  • @karenchakey The company name is Yaley....

  • Nice video, going to try making this some time this week

  • @cockercane It "melts" at a much higher temperature - between 180° and 220°. This means you have to melt it over direct heat, or in a "presto" type pot - not in a double boiler. I hope this helps you.......Tom

  • @1620416204 Thank you.

  • Great video my friend and very educational.

  • could you just put the tub of gel wax in the pot with some water and melt it like a double boiler?

  • @jeeperscreepers71 It needs direct heat....

  • Gel is not considered "Highly Flammable". Flash point is over 400 degrees F.

DO NOT USE FOOD COLORING to Color the Gel. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!!There are oil based dyes that can be used.

  • thanks for re-upping/bringing it back, mike. this is terrific information.

  • Good informative video as always thank you for making it.

  • Hey thx for the video!! i also make mine at home and use them almost anytime i need to start a fire!!!

  • @imaplugger. They are to start your fire. By the time you are cooking, it will be gone. Also, the wax is for making indoor candles. If it was poisonous while burning, you couldn't make candles with it. Read the label before you buy it. God bless. John

  • Great info, Mike. You can get it at A.C. Moores and Michael's in NY. I'm glad you said not to soak it. On my first attempt, I unrolled the cotton balls and saturated them. I could not get them to light with a firesteel. After seeing your vid the first time, I just coated the outside. I will try to dye my next batch. God bless. John

  • @snaponjohn100 Thank you John...I know I said to use food coloring but do not use it. It is water based and could cause you problems. If you dye it make sure you use oil base dye. God bless...

  • I'm getting hungry ;-)

Could you post the ingredients of the wax? I won't get the original stuff on this side of the ocean.

    Thanks Andreas

  • If I shouldn't breath this stuff when I'm melting it on the stove and I shouldn't use the pot again because it's too toxic what about when I'm cooking with it? Just a thought, i know someone is going to ask, may as well be me.

  • @imaplugger There are no problems....as you said as long as you do not breathe it or have any inside your cooking pot you will be fine.

  • Hey Bushcraftbartons, thanks for yet another fantastic video. I wanted you to know that I called Yeley (the company that makes the GELWAX) and they were amazingly helpful and friendly! Can’t wait to get started

  • @WorldStove You are very welcome....

  • That is an amazing cotton ball.

  • @InTheSticks0001 I'd want to leave it dry inside. My lighter doesn't work below 20 degrees F., but the sparks it makes can still start a cotton ball.

  • Great video Thanks..

  • so glad you posted this!!! I was amazed watching the other vid!

  • is it just called gel wax or is there a chemical name ,,,, thanks,,keep up the videos love them

  • @kenny9823 gel wax made by Yaley...

  • The wax does come in 3 different versions but normally it is rated in density. Like low, medium and high. One source for this wax is Michaels craft store. It's a chain store that has shops all around the USA. Another thought if you don't want to buy a large ammount of wax is to remelt a gel candle to make these. But with this you won't know the density and will probably have scented fire starters.

  • @braveheart98 Thanks for the input....appreciate it...

  • Thank you so much for the mention in this video. If you use some kind of commercially available assistance to help you start camp fires, this is a project your viewers must try. It will save you money and give you that wonderful feeling of doing it yourself.

  • When are you going to upload some new videos? I like to re-watch all your old videos but I miss the new fresh stuff.

  • @DirectQuestion Soon....I will not be re uploading all my vids...I am almost done for the summer...will be doing fresh ones very soon....thanks for your patience...
