Unions are the reason China's economy is improving and ours is not. Our local 150 operating engineers need only 2 years of high school completed to make apprentice. 4 years later, they make over $40 per hour. I am a member of the IBEW and for the next 4 years we are getting a total of 9$ an hour that we will vote on to figure out where it will go. ( pension plan. annuity or on the check itself) You can get promoted ( Forman, General forman, Or lead foreman in some cases.) for your performance. In Alaska a Journeyman wireman currently makes around 35$ an hour. Myself as a 22 year old fourth year apprentice makes 27 plus change. There is good and bad to everything, but my experiences make me pro union.

It's been my experience that people join unions because they ARE skilled workers who only want what they are entitled to by law, what they have been promised by their employers, and/or what their contracts say they are entitled to.
