  • How could anybody dislike this...This is FLAWLESS...

  • beautiful rendition!

  • Hauntingly beautiful...actually really spiritual along with that. Makes me proud to be an American. Best version of this song I've ever heard and I'm 56 years old. Nothing else evn comes close.

  • Awesome !!!!!

  • They're just sitting there singing as if they were just warming up.

  • youtube does not do this group justice...go see them live. your mind will be blown!

  • 1:00 - 1:30 i was floored

  • I get so frikkin sick of reading all the comments about "Omg, Take 6 is SOOOOO much better than B2M" or "B2M totally owned them with this one, they can't harmonize". Take a flippin chill pill ppl, and stop fighting over stupid crap! They're both awesome! Different people have different preferences but I'm not gonna say mine cuz I'm afraid I'll get railed on by some jackass who says I don't know music! Jeez........

  • My favorite part 1:48 - 2:12

  • @fanofb2m07 1:00 - 1:30 i was completely jaw to the floor

  • another thing very important about that album called ''TAKE6'' the 1st album released... it`s a Platinum album... Nothing emerged/appeared yet to be compared to them or at least try to imitate them.their style is so unique and authentic that is like having a identity that nobody can steal it. Is like Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Beatles or Elvis Presley . is a ''LEGEND'' .. nothing against Boysllmen, but they have another style and no chance to be compared to the complexity of Take6 at all..

  • @cleitonschneider7 sorry dude but boyz II men is better

  • @quasarthestar >> lol.. well, if u are not a musician I don`t blame u bro...but if u are u better reconsider your conceptions about ''better, good and incomparable'' ... poor guy... : /

  • hey guys downstairs , lol, nothing absolutely nothing can be compared to Take6, and is not about the Grammy`s, but is about ''Being the best vocal group ever'' as quote Quince Jones so many times. They are absolutely incomparable . their harmony and dissonance is so perfect that nobody ever did what they did and still keep doing for more than 22 years. Their legacy is just insurmountable. Just 4 u guys have an idea their 1st CD was recorded in 1 day: 10 very complexes songs, and 20 years ago : )

  • Awesome! Mean cap haha.

  • I think Boyz II Men did better with their chords and incorporating My Country Tis' of Thee

  • WooooooooW

  • tossers ..

  • No comparison...

  • 62 people hang with insurgents

  • So amazing!

  • man, unbelievable

  • Simply the BEST! Sing!

  • FANTABULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • all I can say is AMAZING. some of them aren't even looking at each other.

how is it that they've won so many Grammies, Dove Awards and what not and still not be given some kind of national medal/award!

  • Comment removed

  • Wonderful grop and wonderful song.

  • Okay now I REALLY can't wait to see them in, like, septemeber!

  • OUTSTANDING VOCALS...

THEY WERE NOT EVEN LOOKING AT EACH OTHER...

THEY HAVE "DOG HEARING" WHEN COMES TO STAYING ON KEY...LOL!!!!

  • love take 6 since their first record!

  • Comment removed

  • They should be called to sing this into the Congressional Record. Remind those stupid politicians and this whole damn divided country who were are. I am awestruck and dumbfounded that talent like this is even Earthly.

  • 60 dislikes WTF

  • @stcmattb I know!!? Who would dislike this?

  • Well I never ever heard anything less than mindblowing from Take 6. Goosebumps, screaming with joy and crying - all at the same time! Love them to death - the best ever!

  • They did this song on The Arsenio Hall show and it was even better. I do believe that Mervyn Warren made this group better. Joey Kibble is good though!!!

  • why they dont sing at the opening ceremonies, instead of people like christina who even forget the lyrics. I think this group is super great

  • Absolutely gorgeous rendition! One of the best I've heard!

  • Happy 4th of July

  • And I thought Boyz II Men did a great job on there acapella version.................this is just incredible

  • @brotherofmusic maybe I'm a little too critical but it seems there was much more soul and better harmony in Boyz II Men's rendition

  • @akotr3mor Maybe, but with only 1/100th the talent of take 6

  • @SuperGuitarman69 wait wait wait you dare have the audacity to mistakenly claim Take 6 has more talent than Boyz II Men?? Let's forget about the number of Grammy's, or number of album's sold....Boyz II Men transcends generations. They perfected the 4 part harmony where every other group relied on two baritones to maintain their own harmony....thats an insider secret in the music industry btw...Boyz II Men IS and will always be the greatest male group performers...I dare you to PROVE me wrong

  • @akotr3mor Don't have to.. Take 6 has already done that.. And you cannot make the chords that you can with 6 voices.. It is incredibly difficult to sing minor second intervals and hold pitch.. Which take 6 does constantly.. Boyz to men NEVER gave me chills.. I play and sing music daily for a living.. It takes a lot to give me chills.. Take 6 always has.. Not saying I do not like the pop Boyz to Men.. But they simply are not Take 6

  • @akotr3mor : I used to think B2M were one of the best vocal groups on the scene until I had the misfortune on seeing them this past year in Rancho Mirage, CA. Not only were they horrible, they were singing to TRACK MUSIC!!! It was so bad, I apologized to the person I asked to accompany me. I would have been ok with it being all acapella, but track?? I felt so cheated. Never again!!!

  • @queenvme I've seen Boyz II Men live, both as a quartet, and as a trio...they have NOT lost their edge hence why they are still considered to be the best performance groups to watch live...the only thing I can say to how bad it sounded has to be the sound engineer or the quality of the speakers/microphones used...bad sound can make even Aretha sound bad

  • @akotr3mor sorry to say but it's people like you who don't harmony who would even venture to say that Boyz2Men is comparable to Take6. It's people like you why Pentatonix would win the Sing Off and not Afro Blue. It's even worth arguing the point because you will never understand!!

  • The SICKER (if i can use that word.....lol) part is, these guys can play on the piano what they are singing. Each one of them ( I got from a close friend of there's) can arrange like that......NOW THAT'S SICK. The closest group next to them is MAYBE Manhattan Transfer...and that's pushing it.

  • @dmajormusic the group Acappella was pretty damn good also. But Take 6 dominates the genre I agree.

  • this is so sick its crazy ! harmony is legit mind blowing !

  • I'm as impressed with their ability to sing perfectly in unison as their ability to harmonize so well

  • 0:00 Free Replay Button!

  • KILLED IT.

  • 1:45 best part!!!

  • it's pretty meh honestly.

  • @lilORANG "pretty meh"? What are you smoking?

  • very awesome!!

  • The best rendition of the American national anthem ever... Literally, none will ever be better.

  • notice they aren't even looking at each other to pull this off - unbelievable

  • AMEN AND GOD BLESS AMERICA !!!

  • The minor ninth chord at 1:54 is awesome!

  • Heard this about 100 times and each time I still make that ugly smushy face bcuz of what I'm hearing.... I just.... I.... Just.... I just LOVE it man!

  • Take 6 & Boyz II Men sing the best versions of the Anthem that I've ever heard

  • Sempre xeniais!!

  • God Given Talent... 1:00-1:13 took me far...

  • LOOOORDIE!!!!! That brings tears to my eyes! Now that's SINGING! Make us feel proud of our Beautiful anthem.

  • Comment removed

  • Love it

  • I have been going to states to sing this song!!

  • Some groups are barely able to sing in unison, much less doing parts...AND a cappella!

  • I ain't buying it! They were too amazing KD Lang's "riding the rails" These guys are robots! Where's my phillip's head screwdriver.

  • @mars552 LOL

  • Wow, what an arrangement and performance.

I am not so impressed with just the harmonizing, but keeping the unison singing at the start so perfectly in tune. Just amazing, I'll love to have a transcription of this... guess time to warm the ears up ; )

  • ^) people have no idea what music is amazind chord at 1:38

  • 60 people have no taste in REAL HARMONY! Take 6 son!!! Real harmony without instrumentation!

  • Jazz: A truly American artform.

  • Thanks for asking Josh, my scores are handwritten, old fashioned, bought a scanner finally:-), just sent them to you.. so to all musiclovers, if you like a challenge, send me an e-mail to marceltitarsolej @hotmail.com and I'll send the scores, piano extract and chordprogression. I'm very interested in people who can make my scores come alive, if so, please send me an mp3. One day I hope to meet singers who can sing this piece of art, so hard, so beautiful...Marcel Titarsolej from Holland

  • Too emo...

  • @Kw12345ff How is the Star Spangled Banner Emo? o.O

  • I'm currently transcribing this and getting a group together that will perform it. I'll let you know how it goes. ;)

  • that land of free is ignant

  • @rdevu1990 yes like your comment.

  • At "first", I wasn't impressed. ...less than two minutes later -- GOOSE BUMPS!

  • amazing grace .......

  • Self explanatory!!!!: 1:49 - 1:58, absolutely sick!

  • @DretheVocalist 0:00 - 2:15, absolutely sick

  • @michaelwootenmusic Haha! No lie!

  • @michaelwootenmusic old style of comment dude

  • 1:49 - 1:57 Speaks for its self!!!!!! Cant stop listening to it! lol I would love to start/be apart of a gospel/ a capella vocals group!!!!!!!

  • I had to memorize this for a test ,thanks this helped a lot :)

  • Best part 0:00 - 2:15

  • I love Take 6, but I don't like this arrangement and performance one bit. It's not a case of being "too jazzy". There are many examples of jazz greats doing their own interpretations of classics. But what makes them great interpretations is that the message and theme of the music doesn't get lost in translation, if anything it gets amplified. Take 6's interpretation on the Star Spangled Banner is not so much an interpretation as it is an academic exercise. Changing the melody is cheating!

  • @tu11ym0n I believe the brilliance of their arrangement is that they actually did not change the melody. After the unison, the melody is still there, but because these dudes are vocal masters, they layer their harmonies around the melody to create incredibly rich, thick jazz-embellished chords. The challenge is to try singing along with it, you take the melody, and you'll find they harmonize perfectly with you. They switch off, but one of them is subtly on the melody throughout the song..

  • Comment removed

  • @tu11ym0n I agree with you in that the message here within the actual song isn't being amplified, and I think that the best way to do that is to either stick with the basic melody and chords, or do something completely unorthodox yet brilliant. However, an academic/musical exercise doesn't need to equate to a diminished experience and/or enjoyment of the overall aesthetics (which is absolutely beautiful here) of the song.

  • I tell you what...This is a good reason to serve. I thank God above for the this kind of inspiration. I serve with confidence knowing that this kind of talent is protected for everyone. Amen to Take 6

  • If Its Not Take 6 Its Boyz 2 Men

    They All Give Me Goosebumps

    Ahhhhh!!!

  • give the arranger a medal

  • @grwatanabe they are all music majors

  • Excellent -not the absence of melismatic gospel excess so prominent in way too many other versions of this as done by rock stars.

  • Excellent -not the absence of melismatic gospel excess so prominent in way toio many other versions of this as done by rock stars.

  • Go take six ! Go Oakwood Univerisity.

  • Simply outstanding. I have goosebumps. With singers like these, why are others (cough, Christina Aguilera) invited to sing it? These guys blow her away.

  • So ridiculously good.....misheard lyrics anyone? "Ho say does that star spangled..." "Hand the home of the brave" and my fav, "Whore the land of the free"

  • Well done.

  • Perfect Balance of tone, harmony, falsetto, and base. Just perfect

  • Boyz II Men wins. Sorry guys.

  • @darksideseem ROTFLMAO!!!!!!! even Boyz II men would say you are wrong...

  • @darksideseem Ummmm you do realize BIIM idolized Take 6 right? Their whole singing style is modeled after Take 6.

  • @Whisper2771 Michael Jackson idolized James Brown. Who's better?

  • @darksideseem The original hands down! I never wanted to see MJ live, I've always wanted to JB live, even MJ would tell you JB outshines him. Just like BIIM would tell you the same.

  • @darksideseem - their vocal arrangemnt KILLS Boys to Men!! their rendition of this song is incredible...boys to men was good, but it was an over kill...I do appreciate BTM's vocal ability however, true musical and vocal excellence belongs right here - actually BTM could learn a lot from these guys. After all, Quincy Jones does...

  • muiiiito bacana os arranjos vocais!

  • The first minute of this rendition is classic American jazzy/souled-up take on the anthem, but the remaining time is pure melodic gold.

  • The note David sings on 1:55 is what makes that part so unbelievable. Their harmonies can bring u to tears!!!

  • Take 6 is the best there is at what they do (period)

    Excellent harmony and creative syncapation.

  • i'm "like" 1600 (^_^)

  • the chord at 1:32 was weird lol

  • lol it really was. quite different i must say

  • Some of you people have no fucking idea how incredibly hard it is to harmonize this song in a jazz arrangement. To harmonize these chords flawlessly takes years upon years of practise and talent.

And yet your average overpaid media whore singing this in a major key at a football game can't sing it in tune let alone even harmoize the basic chords....what a sad generation of people.

  • @skeetv123 No one is arguing that harmonizing, especially harmonizing dissonance, is an easy thing. I love L-O-V-E Take 6. Honestly this is the only thing I've ever heard them do that I didn't like. To hear them sing in unison for a whole minute only to be disappointed by their arrangement choices in the next minute. It seemed cold and academic to me, it definitely didn't enhance the message of the song. I also don't like that they changed the melody. They didn't change it for the better.

  • @skeetv123 =

    WHAT SKEET123 said...... (w/out the F-bomb).

  • @skeetv123 calm down

  • never heard anything like it- absolutely flawless

  • Looks like hellen keller has been on youtube again clicking the dislike button 55 times.

  • ..... 1:41.............best part evaaaaah!

  • tasty

  • wow...54 deaf people decides to watch this video

  • im not american...im canadian but this is the best rendition ive heard...PERIOD. groups dont do it like this anymore :(

  • I´ll never heard this song so great and cool like the guys from take 6 singing........awesome!

  • Sadly the true music is dying,i miss those good days. This was truly a vocal performance!!

  • Actually I think they paid the song a lot of respect with this arrangement. It was very straight forward. Any "jazziness" comes from the fact that they are, after all, a group that sings in 6 part harmony. Understand, that's 6 parts. Not 3 guys singing harmony and 3 guys beat-boxing. I think this is about as clean and straight-forward as I've heard a group do it. You want an example of "too jazzy" you might look up En Vogue's version.

  • which ones brian mcknights brother?

  • @07Bolla The one on the far right with the ballcap

  • AMAZING!!!!!!

  • 54 are not americans hahahaha

  • Fantastic job!

  • the harmony gave me chillss!!! i love awkward notes

  • 1:55.... love that chord!

  • @mrLebelstrino, it's called key changes. Do your research in vocal jazz and you'll find that this is not out of tune. I say this with respect.

  • i looooooooooooooooooove this!!!! Being a professional musician/composer, myself, I am very inspired right now! YESS!!!! Follow @Take6Official on twitter.

    ms.music

  • This acapella version of The Star-Spangled Banner is gorgeous! Very American!

  • just supernatural

  • Oh my gosh this time and style was so Ugly!! haha. I hated the 80s

  • awasome..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is a truly American version of thisanthem: sung respectfully, beautifully, creatively. I understand that some might find the unusual chords initially upsetting. However, I would ask them to observe the respect given this performance, and to consider that beauty comes in more than one form only.

  • This is crazi ....in a good way..

  • At first I was like ok....? But then when I kept listening I heard the most amazing harmony.

  • chord a t 1:36 GOOD GOD!!

  • @neosouljimmy Yeah I don't know how they do it!

  • Wow, beautiful

  • If only they sung these at our sporting events rather than stupid popstars, and make this the OFFICIAL way for it to be sung.

  • I will never hear a better acapella rendition of this .... PERIOD !!! I'm picking myself off the floor here

  • AWESOME

  • Careful Kevin, Take 6, you're showing your age. Lol.

  • the sound at 1:01 will buckle your knees if you're standing, it's that good!

  • FISKITES.!!!!!!

  • whhhat a liiines!

  • I find it strange that some people call themselves Take 6 fans but don't like their arrangement. The harmony and phrasing is uniquely and unmistakably Take 6. If complex harmony isn't it for you then I ask you what exactly is it about Take 6 that you're a fan of?

  • im an avid fan of "take 6"....im one of their followers..........to those who were offended by my comment .....sorry........but that doesnt change my opinion ...........for me , simple song w/ simple arrangement would be better...............

  • @mrLbelostrino Offended? No, not at all. But neither do you serve champagne flat to suit people who don't like the way it sparkles, thankyouverymuch.

  • @mjordan552 its simply the music......i liked their arrengement mostly .....but not this one........im a fan of stevie wonder , george benson, michael jackson(RIP)....and i felt the same ......i did not liked all the songs that they sang....mostly , yessss............sorry

  • @mrLbelostrino Okay, point taken. I, too, am a fan of all the artists you mentioned plus Joe Sample, Donny Hathaway, Janet (no last name required) and noooo, I haven't liked everything from them as well.

  • @mrLbelostrino im not a fan of take 6 but i know these guys. and these guys barely sing simple songs. theyre jazz group. so why would you expect simple arrangement from take6? LOL.

  • OMG! That "of" before "the brave" is amazing!!!

  • sounds like out of tune to me .......!

  • @mrLbelostrino well no offense...but that makes you tone def. Cause this is PERFECTLY in tune. Take 6 is the master of this tune. But what you might be hearing is major and minor key they are singing in (which has that "off key" type of sound" but it's definitely right on.

  • @mrLbelostrino Out of tune? Respectfully, sir. Cedric Dent (the baritone, second from the fight) has a doctorate in music theory. This is probably the best musically educated group in the biz. There is nobody in music who wouldn't kill to have these guys backing them on a recording. If you don't like the arrangement, leave it at that but don't belittle their skill. It's brilliant.

  • @mjordan552 i agree with you, i always say, if you don't know anything about music, don't go analyzinig it....out of tune?? yea rite

  • @mrLbelostrino It's not out of tune, they're jazz chords that form dissidents. It sounds strange, but after hearing them enough they become beautiful. Wait, that has nothing to do with how in tune they are. Dissidents can only come out right if every note is in tune. Which Take 6 has done perfectly here, and other pieces as well.

  • @ohsochill94 u must be a musician cuz ur absolutely right .. they are some complexed jazz chords.. very very beautiful

  • @oriaston67 ahaa, yea I'm a high school musician, I play bass trombone and sing. And they're absolutely beautiful, this is one of my favorite renditio
