you're right it is easy to install and use. I use ubuntu 10.04 exclusively. Zero dollars. No advertising or pop ups. It's fast and clean.So it's free, use in any language, and can customize their software without their permission. Cool.

When Ubuntu will run Photoshop and other Adobe Applications I will start using it. Of course Ubuntu can't do anything for this as it is Adobe's decision to acctually make an Ubuntu-compatible program.

Open Office vs MS Office is hard to do. Even though open office has more variety, I think MS office is better, even though MS office have made their menu system a living nightmare, I simply can't find the OOffice as powerful to use as MS Office.

@rolingpingu LibreOffice is basically the version of OpenOffice that was packaged with OpenSuse. Apparently there was some question about what Oracle intended to do with the project after buying out Sun. So, some developers in Germany decided to fork the code. OpenOffice is still in the Ubuntu repositories as well. The Linux version performs better than the Windows one (for me). Take a look at Kubuntu, if you are thinking of using Ubuntu, though. The Plasma Desktop is great.

Linux's biggest issue is file structing sucks when using wine. Yes you absolutely still need wine. No one makes games nativily for wine. Linux is just like mac osx. Its great until you need it to do more than what it does out of the box. Also web cam chat blows on linux and almost never works. MSN./AIM/Yahoo.

all was going well till one fine day ubuntu 10.10 asks me to "update" to ubuntu 11.04 and i did.

then do you know what happened after that ?

whenever i load up ubuntu my acer monitor displays a message "INPUT NOT SUPPORTED"

like WTH ubuntu 10.10 can support an old monitor but 11.04 can't ?

@isthisnickvalid I think with Ubuntu, Windows got competition. Right now... Linux' biggest problem are the stability of apps and the compatibility between windows managers GNOME/KDE/XFCE and the like.

But the infrasructure is there for a (possible) succes. You could use Software Center for selling Apps - would be brilliant, and so much easier than Windows. Interesting, especially, if you want to game. I think, if they could be paid for, there would be more games.

i have both ubuntu (10.10) and windows ( 7) and have used bothe for a while now. there's noooooooooo way i would use ubuntun as my primary os. it has a gr8 interface and doesn't seem to use as mush ram as windows. if i had to choose another os though, it would be one of mac's, which in my opinion i waaaaaaaaaay better than windows.
