  • Doesn't anyone ever just get sick of fighting for the correct genre that a band is suppose to be labeled and neatly arranged in? It's exhausting.

  • Indie and Folk aren't competing genres... thats like saying "is it orange, or is it a carrot?" it can be both... its independently released folk music... jesus.

  • I'm fairly sure that long ago, when people began plucking strings and expressing their voices over its vibrations...they simply called it "music".

  • i LOVE this song. so much.

  • "Folk" artist on an "indie" label.... Now that that is cleared up.... Iron and Wine rocks!

  • I just want to know what is wrong with Indie? This isn't it, but why?

  • Unbelievable song.

  • This is pure talent, plain and simple.

  • this is GOOD MUSIC. thats what it is.

  • I can't do it, I can't listen to any of his songs without choking up at least a little.

  • Frickin' auto focus...I just have to look away and listen to the beauty of it, otherwise I'm always twitching to mess with the settings on the camera! :-)

  • Why pigeon hole everything? I don't want to be in a pigeon hole! Let us not quible over whether or not it is folk (which it clearly is :P).

Instead let us all rejoice in the knowledge that common sense is once again begining to prevail. In that music that takes comittment, art and passion born of real emotions and life experience should at last gain a foothold in the minds of man, woman and child alike over this manufactured, lethally marketed, mind rotting, weak ass auto tune 5h!T!

  • THIS IS FUCKING FOLK GUYS !!!

  • i didnt know how he would be without the voice filter, but this is better than i could have imagined. amazing.

  • This song is awesooome!!..

  • Beautiful man, beautiful song :)

  • gorgeous.

  • i "dislike" this video. muahahaaaa

  • Whoever dared dislike this video has no heart.

  • love this song so so much, it brings home some stuff for me :)

  • I love the song and I love the guy standing there in the door enjoying the music as much as I do. ah and: bearded men forever.

  • I love iron and wine so fucking much. All his songs are so beautiful. I just wish people my age could appreciate good music. It's injustice how his videos get so little views whereas retarded main stream music gets millions :(

  • love the guy on the right, rockin the forward-chin-powerthrust

  • Good God...let's leave it at 1 dislike.

  • So much live then on the album

  • born to folk

  • The guitar in this song is absolutely breath taking. I love love love this song, really. Beautiful stuff right here.

  • it doesn't matter what genre Sam Beam is playing, its amazingly beautiful -- that said I feel like he for most of his albums fit more into that folk niche more so than indie but its not a big deal! at least we can all agree that this dude is amazing.

  • Whether it's folk or indie I think we can all agree that it is beautiful

  • I love that he never plays his songs the same way twice. When he played this one at my college I almost cried, and that live version of the Trapeze Swinger on Vevo is also beautiful.

  • this is the best version ive heard. amazing.

  • Hope I could buy one of his CD's but they just dont get to my country!!! such a shame.

  • it looks like one person missed the 'Like' button

  • indie or folk... actually this isn't the point... maybe we should create a new one for Sam Beam's music: Very Good and Amazing Music... because people who listen I&W don't really care about the genre... just care about this bunch of good feelings that the song bring to us... just brilliant.

  • @mikailpa most people tend to not realize is that indie isn't really a genre or sound, it just means independently produced

  • chills

  • man, I wouuld love to have been there!

  • Folk? Indie? These are all just labels, who really cares? The music is what it is, you don't have to define it into a category, just listen to it for it's unique beauty. :)

  • @VexuL you see, my problem is if people start calling this indie, all the "indie kids" that jump on anything different would swarm Iron & Wine, only listening because he's called Indie. where as the folkys are the ones who listen to and adore this man for the songs he sings... and for the beard.

  • @youngaikidoka

Point taken, beard appreciated, and I understand where your coming from :]

  • @youngaikidoka Who cares if people listen to him...why are you all butthurt because of what other people do? Seems kinda hypocritical in my opinion. Seems like you'd only get upset because the music you listened to would become "more popular" and you'd be "less different and original." I don't know though, it's whatever.

  • I absolutely love his crowd interaction and how comfortable he is with them. Such an intimate performance.

  • Samuel Beam's voice is like silk against my ears, or honey, or some equally pleasant substance.

  • I forget to breathe sometimes when I listen to such beautiful music.

  • This music speaks to the soul

  • Who gives a shit if its 'folk' or 'indie' - just appreciate the brillance

  • @graemeislord It transcends genre.

  • @cgnetwork1 Exactly :-)

  • they guy on the right is really feeling it :D !

  • @youngaikidoka: I wish I had that level of a head on my shoulders when I was 16. I was too angry and impatient to give anything like this a fair try.

  • Beautiful lyrics. Beautiful song. I sang this for my mother and brother at his wedding for their dance. It was a perfect song, really.

  • @sarahmarshall Your mom and brother were getting married??

  • @sarahmarshall @sarahmarshall Your mom and brother were getting married??

  • @cynoodles lmfao

  • is that an electric guitar? its plugged in so thats what i thought it was but it sounds kinda acoustic..

  • @ColdEnigma it's acoustic, but plugged into an amp to project the sound. my brother does it with his guitar all the time :P

  • @ColdEnigma It's just an acoustic with an amp outlet i think, pretty much for live shows.

  • @ColdEnigma It's called an acoustic-electric.

  • @ColdEnigma ,its an acoustic/electric. is an acoustic guitar with electric guitar equipment inside it so you can amplify the sound of an acoustic guitar.... very simple stuff here, bud.

  • @camelspider99 Just an acoustic with pickups.

  • This song is to be played at my funeral. That and the trapeze swinger.

  • @wetwizz my favorite iron and wine songs!

  • genius ! great song !

  • how I view Iron & Wine is Indie Folk. He has some songs that are more folky than others, and some that can't really be classified very well. Though his music contains a lot of folk resemblances it's not like classic folk, which is what I imagine when someone says folk. I imagine Sam Beam in the direct middle of the two. For the most part at least, but that's just my opinion.

  • Amazing :)

  • totally folk...

  • It is folk dammit and the best folk singer today dammit !!!!!!!!!!

  • I would give pretty much anything to see him live.

    Why isn't he playing anywhere?!

  • @themarinersrevenge He's just finishing a tour. Some give him some time he will be back out playing.

  • i was at the folk festival too and sam beam closed the show. what an awesome performer.. AMAZING. he even put ben gibbard from death cab to shame. Excellent show. Check out the Po girls they were there also and put on a great show too.

  • I was there as well, I thought that everybody did a great job but Sam really brought the house down. He was absolutely perfect.

  • @SamBrokeMyStrings even ben gibbard? nice.

  • my dad jut saw him live at the ann arbor folk festival. he was on a date (parents are divorced) he said he was really good. I listen to like 60s &70s rock and folk-rock like neil young. I'm 14 and I am very happy that good music is coming out today. I just need to look around to find artists like this. I struck a gold mine with Iron & Wine.

  • good lad :) i'm 16, i'm glad some fellow "youths" think the same as me! though it makes me sick to my stomach when people start calling stuff like this "indie" just because it's popular and they don't want to call it folk haha.

  • @youngaikidoka generally indie if it has never been on the radio.

  • @Valdrone No it is indie if it is on a indie label like Sub Pop which Iron & Wine is on. The radio has nothing to do with being on a indie label.

  • @youngaikidoka duh it is indie folk

  • @youngaikidoka

Umm.. it technically could be considered "Indie." Indie is short for independent, and he's on an independent label. So they're not entirely in the wrong on that one. But I consider it folk as well :)

  • @youngaikidoka what the hell does it matter, as long as the person appreciates the music, labels mean nothing. In most cases this would be indie, but it really doesn't matter. It sure is better than any other label by far. Bc I have a hard time considering this music folk.

  • @youngaikidoka I was unaware that he was mainstream. Just because one of his songs was in twilight doesn't mean he is popular amongst most people. In fact, I know almost no one that listens to Iron & Wine, other than my friends who would be classified as "hipsters". and this in fact classified as "indie folk", thus making it both categories. Or, if you want to get super technical, "freak folk" or "shoegaze".

  • @youngaikidoka Folk, to me, has always been the ability of one man to capture a million people with one guitar. Its amazing to me.

  • @youngaikidoka . there's always indie folk.

  • @youngaikidoka Why does it matter if it's called 'indie' or not? Folk and Indie are both amazing.

  • @youngaikidoka The unfortunate part about that statement is that it isn't popular, and I demand to know why.

  • His every word and every note are beauty personified.

  • i would do just about ANYTHING just to see him on stage in person. [:

  • I saw him last night. I was nearly in tears. So haunting..I have never been in an audience that was so quite

  • look at the guy on the rights sultry nodding

    haha

  • aww i so wanna see him playing live ... :'(

  • god i love this song.

whoever got to be here is the luckiest bastard in the world. i love him so much.

  • curiously haunting...

  • Talented an hilarious I saw him here in Eugene last year. Best concert of my entire life.
